I am impressed you are answering all the questions. So I have 20" wheels with a +35 offset. Can I fit 275/55/20's to get a little more sidewall? Currently running 265/50/20 with no issues.

Hi Rhett, thanks for sharing, very helpfull video. I have a 2011 Trendline with the stock 245/70 r16 tire size. I've done some research in different 4wd forums but im still not sure if I can fit 265/75 r 16 tires with the stock rims. I dont mind if it rubs at full lock. Greetings from Chile!

Hi Tomas! Unfortunately, 265 75 16 tyres cannot fit on any of the vw 16" rims, not just because they will hit the chassis at full lock, but also because they would hit both the knuckle and the upper control arm. You could consider the 235 85 16 tyre size if you want to keep your rims.

Hi Rhett, I have a 13 Highline, with the standard 245/65/17 +49 currently fitted. The car is getting a bullbar and suspension to suit that, so about a 30mm raise. Given this, and the video, will a 265/75/16 fit without any scrub on the inside chassis rail with a +35 offset? Thanks for the help and video.

Hey Rhett thanks for the very informative video. I have a question regarding legal tyre sizes for Qld. I am looking at fitting 265/65/18 to my amarok which comes standard with 255/55/18. Would these be legal? Cheers

The original diameter is 30" and you are proposing to go to 32". I think qld has laws that allow that, although perhaps only if you only have 1" or less suspension lift. I suggest you look into that if you care.

Thanks mate - yes no suspension lifts so I think it will be fine - tyresize.com indicates a 41mm difference in diameter which is below the 50mm allowed in Qld. Cheers👍

Great vid man. On some forums I’ve seen people run 285/60r18 no lift on 18x9 30+ My Rok is a mall crawler and I want to put a bug set of HT Tyres on for handling and to make it look not so pussy haha. With say Scorpion Verde which have a more rounded wall being HT, do you think it would work no lift (I’ve actually lowered the rear too using susd spacers to load my bikes easier, not that it matters in the rear).

Nice video, been looking at this many many times. I need some help. I have a 2014 auto with currently 275/55-19" with e43 (stock was 255/55), and i want a bit bigger tire + all seasons ( i live in Norway. My winter rims are 8x17" with e49, and i want a 265/70-17 on there. I see you write 17x8 rim with same et i have and 265/70... are you sure that will fit ? @@Ottesen23 tyre model also plays a role. The width stated is the section width, the width at the sidewalls, which is influenced by the rim width. The tread width is open to a lot of variation. A 55 series tyre might have a wide tread area. And the model you have might be wide. I swapped from a 285 tyre to a 295 and the tread got 30mm wider! Mickey Thompson P3 and Cooper StMaxx have particularly wide treads.

@@rhetth-s8082 Just wanted to give feedback and a thanks, i just fitted my old winter rims now with 265/70r17 on the 17x8" et49. No scrubbing and no poke, it clears the uca pretty well, using Nokian Rotiiva AT tires. Only bad thing is that i could have used a 275/70 and still had clearance, but would be close or maybe scrub a tad on the mudflaps, thanks again Rhett :)

Hi, I have a 2015 Volkswagen amarok (Highline), it came with the stock 255/55/19 tyres with obviously 19inch alloys. Went to a local garage and he said I could have some new Velare 20inch alloys with cooper discoverer at3 255/55/20 tyres. Is this OK? Always thought when increasing the alloy size you had to reduce the tyre size to keep the diameter of the wheel the same so it didn't affect the speedo or any other complications. So to recap I currently have 19inch alloys with 255/55/19 tyres and garage says put 20inch alloys on with 255/55/20 tyres on.
@rhetth-s8082
@rhetth-s8082 4 жыл бұрын
Normally lower profile tyres are fitted, but i think the bigger fitment would fill the guards better, be a more practical tyre, and go some way towards making your speedo more accurate. Depends how and where you drive it whether you want a lower profile tyre, they are more prone to damage. Tyre availability and cost may also be playing a role in his thinking.

Thx for reply, I was thinking that a 255/45/20 was going to be fitted with the new 20in alloys to keep the diameter the same as the original 255/55/19 the amarok came with. I will not be doing much off road with this vehicle apart from when I take my son camping, main reason I got it was for my job and carrying my tools for wood work, so it's mainly around the city. The main reason I asked the question about the garage increasing the diameter by an inch was that I was concerned about if it could do any damage to the amarok as differential, engine, affecting fuel usage ect ect. Is there anything to be concerned about or will it be ok.
@rhetth-s8082
@rhetth-s8082 4 жыл бұрын
@@JASON-rq5gl there is nothing to be concerned about with fitting 31" tyres rather than 30". Also be aware that some amaroks came with a tyre placard showing a 31" tyre as being approved (i think it was a 265/60R18). They wont affect fuel use, but they will make your odometer, tripmeter, and fuel consumption readouts slightly innaccurate. Multiply your tripmeter by 32 and divide by 31, you will travel a bit further than what the dashboard says due to the larger circumference. And multiply your fuel consumption readout by 31 and divide by 32, because it doesnt know you are travelling further it says your consumption is higher than what it is.

@rhetth-s8082
@rhetth-s8082 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. That tyre size is 32" overall diameter. An offset of +30 might be the best, to confidently avoid tyre rub against the chassis at full lock. If you want to take a risk, +35 or +40 might work, but its not worth the risk.

My impression is that the steelies available off the shelf are et30 and et35? Et30 would be good with a 255 80 17. This tyre is 'technically' a 33 1/4" tyre. If you dont have flares and have a V6 i regard this a good choice, assuming you go offroad.
