very interesting used to install 10 foot satalites in the past then the smaller ones for a bit those were fun times

Good luck with the next steps, QO100 is very cool. Only wish we had something that supported this hemisphere like the QO100. Cheers

now you need to work on the transmitting part. I have such a satellite set based on Icom 705 and a 60cm antenna. You can take a look at my QRZ under the callsign SQ5AM. Regards.

I wonder how much power one needs to transmit for the uplink? When I lived in the states I have seen some serious operators working microwave communications. Some of their amplifiers were upwards of 10 watts at around 10.525 GHz. This was for point to point land comms. For a successful uplink I would think around five watts would do good making the hop to the bird.

I have friends who used 2.5W.

Now we need one to cover the North and South America continents so we can play.

Great video! The frequency drift you are observing might be coming from the LNB and it's built in oscillator. The oscillator is not as stable as needed for narrow band ham stuff. Some SDR software can correct the drift by locking into QO-100's beacon.

Definitely possible!

Would be useful with WinLink, but not very packable. Wonder how minimal a station could be?
@RadioPrepper Жыл бұрын
That's probably the minimum dish size.

Congratulations on another excellent presentation Gil. If inclined, any chance of including topic of how you set-up GQRX on your Mac in a follow-up video? e.g. Did you need to run any additional applications or an emulator? Have you tried any other SDR applications? Keep up the good work and hope your Christmas has been everything you wished for and that the New Year exceeds your expectations! 73 from KG43eu

Thanks Nigel. I just found a Mac version somewhere.. To transmit I will use SDR Angel, I think...

@@RadioPrepper All noted Gil and I also located a 'Mac ready' build. Worked without any fiddling EXCEPT no audio... After exploring, I found setting relating to 'modulation' and once a mode set, audio was present. Plan to complete my portable QO-100 station soon(ish) and perhaps will be able to make contact with you via the satellite? Good luck with whatever you try using on the Tx side. Looking forward to your next production (especially if it includes 'scenic' footage of wherever you record) for sure. Stay safe. 73

That's cool you got it up and running . How much time did it take to optimize your dish manually ? I know the VSAT stuff I mess with is automated and it takes several minutes to incrementally optimize . Thanks for sharing !
