As a graphic designer I can say Canva is good if you’re creating things that just need to be quick but for proper marketing purposes it’s not ideal. On the surface it seems good until you realize that everyone theoretically has access to the exact same assets. Eventually everything will become pretty much the same and kinda boring. You pay a graphic designer largely for their ideas not entirely for the work itself. Also, design has a lot of psychology, research and colour theory behind it, it’s not just about making pretty things.

Nice, I've spent years learning graphic design at my university and years working as a designer. Countless hours upon hours of work, designing and mastering the craft just to find a video stating that designers are becoming obsolete/are not needed as much due to these tools becoming more prevalent to the masses. Interestingly, everyone thinks that just because they're able to recognize a difference between good and bad design and know how to use a limited in resources, drag and drop tool that they are automatically a designer. As if I would be able to start working as a doctor just because I watch Grey's Anatomy. Not to mention that this particular branch of work is beginning to overflow because of people acting like graphic design is an effortless task that requires no background knowledge and is viewed as "easy money". This video has been a poor excuse in showcasing the actual difference between a professional graphic designer and a tool filled with templates, and instead focused on demeaning a branch that takes time and effort to learn just as any other line of work. The video undermines the creative process and graphic design as a profession, and with that, affects the prices of work, because it is presented as an easy to do thing. Maybe in the future consider the background of what you're promoting and how to approach the subject, rather then creating content that promotes this kind of mentality. Oh, and you are not an amateur designer just because you use Canva, you are not a designer at all.

I think the animations and pictures in canva were eye catching, but that's the best it had. Someone who works with more detailed programs can do so much more and build from nothing. It takes more time and effort, but that's because these people have trained for years, specializing in what appeals to people. Its almost like a form of psychology in digital media. In this video, i think the guy could have done more if he had more time, because it seemed like the timing was based on when the canva project was good and ready. And thats what it is, a simple program made for speed, with the illusion of professionalism. Not knocking canva down, it is a good app, I just think its more showy than ideological. I feel like it‘s a little unfair to make him do it in 5 minutes. Obviously Canvas is quicker but if you do everything custom it takes some time. Really liked the video, but I‘d love another episode where you give him 2 hours or so!

Canva CEO Melanie Perkins did create Canva because he had a problem not being able to design, so the problem was created by the Canva application. His principle is "Because a good design does not only belong to those who are professionals and good at design" hehe. I am very happy to see videos like this on KZbin hehe, as a Canva certified fellow I really support positive content like this, greetings from Indonesia

67% people like this over Pro's design? Time to leave the plant. As a Graphics Designer, A Camera lover, a photographer I would say he chose amazing background image to sum up all about photography as well as this camera. Lizzie you are amazing and loving your videos. Love form Pakistan.

I agree canva has been a crazy upgrade in the past few years being able to make high quality stuff on the fly, for cheap

This is a cool challenge and it looks fun but like you said at the end Daniel if he had more time would've won by a landslide definitely, as graphic designer we need a little more than 5 minutes to get something out that can really get viewers to interact.

The main question is: which design fits/matches Sony’s brandbook and design guidelines? (Guess the amateur has no idea what the brandbook and the guidelines are for and that you shouldn’t use random designs and graphic elements for an established brands promo).

Gotta agree on this. These big brands have Brand Identity and which color, font and style guidelines to follow.

Imagine a world where all the designs look exact the same. But hey thanks Canva and all the platforms that are downsizing what graphic design theory can actually do. There's a reason he took longer to finish is that he was desigining it all from scratch and Canva uses pre-designed templates. I'm sorry, as an art director/graphic designer I find this video quite silly. Thank you!

It’s Instagram?you can do that with a 5$ app on an ipad.! If you want it done right and able to use it across all media go with the pro designer.

Wait what?! 67% thought yours was cooler? Man... I see yours as a good attempt, but what Daniel pulled together in 5 minutes from a plain canvas is waaaaaaaaay better. Thing is, while Canva is a cool app, unless it can learn and update itself by some sick algorithm, professional graphic designers will still always be ahead.

The irony is that all these websites like canva etc have professional graphic designers to design templated and stuff.

It's true that using softwares like Canva and using templates can help you make something easily, but creating something completely only using your own creativity is hard and I really appreciate Graphic Designers, especially, for that (I know for the fact I really am not creative with things, I can't even make a good house in minecraft😅). And also hey, the template you used was also initially made by graphic designer, I guess😅.

This is hurtful in so many ways but I can get past saying this is “amateur” when this is far less than that, or the obvious unfair comparison of job title to task... what pisses me off is you wait till the end to announce that the sponsor is conveniently the same company that produces the service you used as a crutch to suggest that someone who is below amateur even holds a candle to the level of work most people study for years to accomplish. And saying “there is a time and place” doesn’t make anything better for this comparison because the actual study and science behind creating impactful art, not just the technical ability to make it, is completely lost in the pseudo-hype of offering accessibility to creating things in an easier way than other apps. This is not me bashing Canva. Maybe their marketing department but as a company, I see nothing wrong with the tool. I hate the way you present this entire thing. Disrespectful at its bones

If you had 5 minutes to work it’s comprehensible. When you have the time you can search for better assets and this is not the case.

People saying Canva is lazy or unhealthy are werid and coming out of a place of fear imo, make use of every tool at your disposal for the best designs , I use canva for some quick ideas or inspiration from time to time. There is no need to worry about ppl use Canva to replace us. You can try a pro vs a veteran on Canva you'll see the difference.

This totally overlooks the fact that people don’t actually pay for what non designers think to just be a GRAPHIC. There is strategy and an overarching knowledge of WHY. That design doesn’t just need to look good, it has to actually function for its intended demographic. So no really canva, isn’t giving pro designers a run for their money it just fills a different need

Graphic designer is not all about advertising. There are three major ads, corporate branding, multimedia, and animation. We design character, we take a photo and edit more beautiful than easy apps can do. We learning about a law of design that does not allow you to do stupid thing in your design.

P.S social media typically spews out SHITE content 90% of the time unless they have heavy investment in a professional designer. The point is most designers don't really want to touch crappy adhoc design like social media, they'd much rather be doing brand management, logo design and packaging design for higher paying clients. That said some people do want a in house designer for socials. These in house designers are typically rookie designers and eventually break out into higher paid work.

its a good advert... but being a motion graphics designer... it seems a bit off... Daniels design fits more of a x-banner or hoarding style, for me. There was minimal animation; and the canva one was "sparkly-er" (if that makes sense) I just don't understand why you would not use aftereffects / some other motion graphics program - considering it is an instagram story you were making? .................................aaaaand as I type this I realize this is made for people who aren't familiar with video editing / motion design 🙃
@KyleAlexanderkneeGrowPlz4 жыл бұрын

@johnlustin33273 жыл бұрын
Truly to the public eye it doesn’t matter if you’re a amateur graphic designer or a professional graphic designer. At the end of the day people are going to like the design that they think looks better regardless of how much the graphic designer knows or how experienced he is, make something & the people will like which one they think is better
@David-gd5jc3 жыл бұрын
I just know, as a client like Sony, I wouldn’t come/pay for your expertise for you to use a cookie cutter template.

How to be creative without being creative. As a designer myself these things claim to be against us, but actually we'll just embrace them IF THEY WORK and be creative with them. Otherwise everything will end up looking the same, and no one wants that.

The issue is not just about "which one do we like better" but does it appeal to a specific audience to achieve a goal? Yes literally anyone could use a template but is that the point? Are we just trying to make something look nice or good or cool or are we trying to communicate and solve objective goals?
@THEKINGISHIM4 жыл бұрын
Canva is great when you need to get something done fast.
@amandaraath34382 жыл бұрын
Here's the actual problem. Taking assets from Canva isn't unique to a brand. Each brand has guidelines in place to ensure they are unique to their competitors and appeal to their market. By taking some assets from Canva, there's a possibility your design might look similar to a design for anything from footwear to artisan bread.
@JorgePille4 жыл бұрын
Except professional graphic designers still had to design the templates.
