Amazfit GTR - A runner's perspective!

Hi, I have checked my BPM wearing at the same time an upper arm Blood Pressure MONITOR (which also shows BPM) , a Fingertip Pulse Oximeter, and the GTR, the Blood Pressure Momitor showed BPM as 54, the GTR as 54 and the Fingertip Pluse Oximeter fluctuating between 53 and 54 BPM, so I have come to the conclusion (in my opinion) that the GTR is very accurate.

There's already a newer firmware which brings Always On Display and some fixes to the GPS accuracy. Maybe you should do a follow up video on this.

Honest review, nice! I've been using it for 3 weeks now and the biggest downside is the GPS inaccuracy. The inaccuracy can even be more in certain situations on the same running/walking course. Steps are pretty accurate though. Heartrate is indeed neither that accurate. I consider the watch overall good, but the nitpicky problems are definitely there. Even spontaneous reboots... They hopefully will fix these things (including showing basic time during workouts...) with firmware updates: remember; even the Pace got better after a couple of updates...

Yeah, Amazfit has been good with updates in the past, so I trust them to fix the issues for sure. Overall I still really like this watch though.

In case of GPS accuracy I got garmin forerunner 235 and there is not a lot of difference :-) Also can show the route in deviation to the street or block.

My personal experience with about 3 hours dog walking (with GPS) is that the battery life is about 3 days. The GPS works when it wants to work. The first day there were no issues. On the second day it did not start in any location always under open sky. Pretty pisappoining.

I’m having similar experience with GPS. Also time to get GPS fix takes often very long time. I like the display settings when running or swimming it’s very clear to read.

You perform pretty comprehensive reviews on KZbin especially about this watch. There are many on here that are nowhere near as thorough. I am contemplating buying it, but I hope you can answer some key questions for me. When exercising, do you notice that it is burning calories in real time? Say for example if I workout for 30 minutes vigorously, I would anticipate burning about 10 calories per minute - give or take. Do you notice that on this watch, or does it lag in showing as accurate a calorie burn as possible during exercise? Is the vibration strong when receiving notifications? And finally, are the notifications detailed when received, or cut off? thank you.

As you say GPS is off. Mine is terrible. As for heart rate ... I use a scosche rhythm 24 because it was out as well. Battery 10/10 looks 8/10 GPS 3/10 heart rate 6/10

It could an issue with strava, I had used Tom Tom watch, same thing happened with respect to distance. Watch says 5KM, but Strava doesn't record it as 5K

Yeah, the Bip is still probably the best deal on any GPS watch that you can get IMO. The new GTS that was just announced at IFA looks somewhat like a Bip V 2.0, but maybe they still plan to launch an actual Bip 2.... we shall see, but I hope it happens.

No music storage. Amazfit Pace has music storage, and around half the price right now. Stratos has music storage. How's that an upgrade? I listen to music or podcasts while running and I don't want to carry a phone AND wear a watch. I'm aware that music playback via bluetooth drains battery a lot, but let's keep it as my choice to use it or not.

Really considering this to replace my wear os Polar M600. Battery Life sounds astonishing. Will miss being able to respond to notifications and messages etc.. Also use watch currently to set Google Assistant reminders.... But that battery life tho...

The battery life is no joke. Usually these battery estimates tend to give best case scenarios, but 24 days of battery on this watch is definitely realistic.

The GTR is a solid option if you need to save some money. In the end I definitely feel like Garmin products are worth it, but the GTR is also a good watch with really great battery life!

If you just record the activity on the watch it will automatically upload to Strava if you connect the Amazfit App to Strava. You don't need to bring your phone with you at all, just record it on the watch.

I had to watch your review but I also heard that in some news that they're sending out an aod update and it's also doing a little few more tweaks to the GPS also. I'm saying this because I bought this watch but I've noticed time has passed about a week and I haven't seen anything oh and you updates on my shipment so they told me that I have to wait from the 9th to the 12th to get their shipment in then they would send it to me I can't wait show it off thanks for your opinion

Thanks for this review. Does this watch lack some features which amazfit Stratos had from Firstbeat technology? (TE, VO2, Recovery time, EPOC etc.,) In terms of GPS and heart rate monitor, do you think Stratos was better?. Though can't compare with Garmin.

Karthik R, Yes, I have both watches, and the GTR lacks Firstbeat features such as Training Load, Training Effect, recovery time and VO2, but I knew that before buying it, so no complaints. What I WILL complain about is the fact that the GPS often fails to get a satellite fix. Not great when you’re about to start a run/race and end up with no usable data after giving up trying to get a GPS fix. Hopefully they fix it with firmware updates, but I’ll probably send it back before then and stick with my reliable, and more accurate, Stratos.

arnold joseph de leon If it's your first, I'd get the Stratos to avoid negative impressions caused by the GTR's GPS issues. I've gone back to my trusty Stratos, which has pretty accurate GPS tracking and more importantly gets a GPS lock EVERYTIME and generally in under 20 seconds at the most. GTR is going back for a refund after yet another firmware update that failed to improve it. Shame, because it's a beautiful smartwatch with incredible battery.

Hey, I bought it last week. Today I was running with my new GTR but I couldn't get the GPS even after trying for 15 mi, then I took my old watch and new GTR and start running. I wanted to use both to compare and started running without GPS in my GTR. I was running on a known path and it makes exactly 7.5 km. At the end I saw that my GTR is showing 5.6 km only and obviously without and record of the route without GPS. Can you please explain how to connect to GPS for the first time?

I have a similar problem. They have some issues with GPS and they should release update to fix it soon. Some people can connect and use inaccurate GPS and some can't even connect... we can only wait :-/

I find that once the watch updates A-GPS then it will take a few minutes to get a GPS lock for the first time. After that then it's really quick to get a lock ( 10-30 secs). Its just that initial lock that seems to throw things out. Annoying but I've learnt to live with it. Not that I should have to. Other than that I love the watch.

The Stratos is definitely a more complete smartwatch and has more reliable fitness tracking. The disadvantage of the Stratos is that is only gets a max of 7 days of battery, and usually 2 to 3 days if you are using the GPS regularly.

Mazdur Verg..I am a runner running from last 4-5 years, watch for pace and distance Accuracy is not pridectable. Some time same distance. Show 2-3 KM difference only for 10k. I have a general question. I'm walking with my phone and a watch. My phone tracks everything with google fit, the watch tracks steps as I walk also. Does that mean my steps will double when the watch merges with google fit?

If you are using an amazfit watch, it syncs with google fit. There is an option for that in the settings.
