Outstanding video. I ordered my T-Rex 2 and am looking forward for it. Wrt the GPS, bare in mind that you are trying to find precision in a system that isn't as precise as one may think. There are many errors in the system (atmosphere, satellite orbit, satellite clock, multipath etc) and 4 satellites is absolutely the bare minimum for a 3D position. Proper receivers use as many satellites are possible (10+), receive corrections for the errors (differential GPS). Cell phones take advantage of WiFi networks and other sources to triangulate a better position, A-GPS (Assisted) via Internet, and software like Waze etc will know the car must be driving on the road and not the sidewalk. (source: I've worked with GPS since the mid-90s so I have an idea). The watches - all of them - have nothing of this.

I found it surprising and also not surprising. I use the watch in GPS mode a lot more than it was tested for. I also have the always on display on for 13 hours a day AND have my heart rate constantly tracked. I always take the quotes time with a pinch of salt because I know it’s been tested in a lab and not in real world settings and definitely not tested to the extent I use my devices. What I would like to know is when you export the GPX from Zepp, and open the file in Notepad and look at the points that it records, are those points ONE SECOND apart, or does it range. I'd like to know that for the various GPS constellation options. With the Amazfit Pace and Stratos (2 and 3) which I owned, they claimed "per second" GPS tracking, but when you looked at the GPX file, it did a sort of "smart recording", every 1 to like 8 seconds, not every second at all. If you run trail it was super inaccurate and would cut corners because it wouldn't record the location every second. I'd always be at least 10% less compared to other people. And when you export to Strava, your distance would be rounded down even more because Strava would look at the data and missing points and rework the numbers, usually down. It was the No.1 reason I moved away from Amazfit. I would consider again if they brought out a TRex2 or Falcon with a transflective display like a Garmin Fenix, and not AMOLED. AMOLEDs are for smart watches, not sport watches.
@its_Matt_B_2 жыл бұрын
Agreed that AMOLED is better suited to smartwatches, but people I know with the the Epix 2 seem to love the AMOLED display with the high-end features. I downloaded a GPX file from my T-Rex 2, but I was unable to interpret the data in the 2 minutes o gave myself before leaving for work. I’ll reply later when I figure out the ping-rate.
@misterb19152 жыл бұрын
@@its_Matt_B_ Awesome. Would be interesting to know if they squashed those interval loopholes. The timestamps in the GPX files are on each node inside the file. The GPX file is basically an XML document.

This is an awesome review Matt, thanks for your time and effort into this especially when this watch is so new. Do you know if you can control music (or get into other apps) during a workout? This was an issue in previous T-Rex versions, and idk if they fixed that here? Also, would you recommend this watch or the Garmin Instinct Solar (they're around the same price range) if the main things I'ma use it for are sports, HR, sleep, and every now and then some intermediate to intense hiking & outdoor sports? Thank you.
@its_Matt_B_2 жыл бұрын
Thank YOU for watching and for your kind words about the video! Yes, you can control your music from the watch when you’re in an activity. You just swipe to the left from the activity page and the music controls are there. You can also access the rest of the watch’s features and keep your activity going in the background. Just press and hold the “back” button and it’ll bring you to the main watch face. 🤔 It’s not really too tough a choice between the Instinct Solar and the T-Rex2; there both so different so it depends on what you value most. The T-Rex is more of a smart watch and the OLED screen is gorgeous. On the other hand, the Instict Solar is made by Garmin. 🤣 I’m kidding about it being an easy choice. I know it’s not. If you’re only using the watch for your activities, perhaps the Instinct Solar is the way to go. If you want a prettier user experience, definitely go with the T-Rex2.

After a few years with Garmin Instinct (recently Instinct 2x) I wanted some color ;) So I ordered TREX2. I must admit that in the future I will want to buy the Garmin Fenix 7x again, but for now I can't afford it and I will see if I have Trex2 if I need a more advanced watch. I remember when I had my first Trex that after some time it reset itself, turned it on and off. I don't know if a reset would help, but it really irritated me. If it's the same here, I'll quickly say goodbye to it and go back to Garmin.

Yes, I'm still using this, however it is not my daily watch anymore. I also did not see the point in upgrading to the T-Rex Ultra. The offline map support just wasn't a feature I wanted to pay for, and I think the battery life of the new one is actually less.

This is a great video, nice work. even though I'm not bilingual. I am looking for an outdoor multisport watch. I don't compete. I already had a stratos but unfortunately it broke at the strap attachment. I bought a Mobvoi Ticwtach pro ultra and unfortunately the autonomy is catastrophic. Today I hesitate in the T-Rex 2 and the Garmin Venu 2, the Fenix is too expensive. When do you think?

Thanks for the review. I’m looking into a new fitness watch. I’m not a serious athlete but like to keep fit and monitor my stats. The Garmin watches seem great but very expensive and I never really liked my forerunner 600 series - the touch screen was not very responsive. The Trex2 looks a good bet for me. I especially like the look of the screen. My old eyes need something very clear! I still need to check a few other options but the Amazfit Trex2 is certainly top of the list so far. I might see if I can hang on for the Black Friday sales and see if I can get a few quid off. One quick question. Can you zoom in for navigation? If maps do get added in a firmware update I’d like to be able to see them! Thanks again.
@its_Matt_B_ Жыл бұрын
Hi! Good idea waiting for Black Friday to get a better deal. No, at this time you cannot zoom in on maps. I’d suggest staying away from touch screens if you’re looking for stand alone fitness watch. They can be a bit finicky if you get them wet (rain/sweat). This doesn’t mean as much of you plan to use it as a daily watch as well as fitness.

Nice review, I like a lot about this watch but unfortunately I don't like the design. Especially not the "T rex" text on the strap. And I don't understand why they don't use the common used strap. For some time I've been exploring the watch market to replace my Garmin Fenix 3 HR. No good watch found yet other than the Fenix 7. But that's pricey.
@its_Matt_B_2 жыл бұрын
You’re right about everything: the Fenix 7 is VERY pricey and the T-Rex style with the big “T-Rex” is a little in-your-face! As far as the strap goes, I wish I knew Amazfit’s thinking. It seems like it would be less expensive to use a standard strap rather than design something completely new, and with a standard removable strap no one would complain! 🤷🏻♂️ With that said, it’s still a good watch! 👊🏽

If your main goal is running, I’d suggest going with the FR245. Forget about the complaints about some people having a dead pixel; Garmin’s customer service is top-notch and I bet they’d replace the watch.
