Wow, How you managed to keep taking images while that was going on is beyond me. I would probably have been so fixated on the Aura I’d have forgotten that I had a camera. Incredible

Fantastic stuff Richard. I have crashed my original mavic pro twice in the 3 years I have owned and it can be an expensive exercise. The gods were looking after you on this occasion. Really enjoyed the images and the best I have seen of the Aurora. Ah the magic of Tassie.

Yes Tassie is an amazing place on so many fronts Andrew. I've had a few crashes as well. In fact a near fatal one on the last day of this trip .. gimbal problems since then.

Magnificent!! I have seen and even managed to photograph the northern lights a few times, but nothing as spectacular as what you witnessed. That was just amazing. I agree that finding your drone after the crash must have been a good omen for the rest of the day.

Richard: Love your work. Love your enthusiasm. Read an article, about a year ago, that anyone, with even an old camera, can take a pic of the Milky Way. Took a few photos from my back yard (Melbourne) . . . and I was hooked. Stumbled onto your KZbin channel while doing research and this is where I have obtained most, well . . . nearly all, of my information. Starting with a 3/4 crop, 10 year old camera and single shots, to an updated full frame camera and panoramas of the night sky. All thanks to your tuition. Regarding the Southern Auroras, in mid May I was walking back to the car after taking some Milky Way shots at the trestle bridge in Kilcunda (Vic) when I noticed a red and yellow glow in the southern sky over the ocean. I could see the southern lights dancing and weaving, with the naked eye, and they looked even better when i took a few pics. It was breathtaking. I would not be surprised that it was the same night that you witnessed the Auroras in Tassie. I have seen the Northern Auroras in Norway, but to see them here in Victoria was even a bigger buzz. Please keep up the good, no . . . FANTASTIC, work. I only wish that I had more time (work . . . an essential and yet an inconvenient activity) to take more pics. It has been a big learning curve and amongst the many mistakes, I seem to have taken many great pics of the night sky. Kind Regards, Tom

Thanks so much for your very encouraging words Tom. I'm so pleased that my videos have been of help to you. Yes I agree about the Australian auroras being so special compared to the "common" lights in the northern hemisphere.

What can I say but wow to this video and that aurora! I always experience mixed feelings when I visited Lake Pedder and dispair that people older than me decided to dam and flood forever that natural gem that was the original lake pedder in the early 1970s. If you ever go back there and are besieged by rain there used to be a heated pool at Strathgordon which you could camp near and swim in as I did with a mate in the mid 80s I have also climbed Mt Elisa and Mt Lot overlooking the lake and can imagine the shots you would get from up there if the aurora went off. My old backpack still bears the hole that an Antechinus ate through to get my muesli bars
