The rainy season might be beautiful, but it’s definitely not easy for two-wheeler owners. It is very difficult to ride in the rain, and also maintaining the bike is no easy task either.
Here are some pointers to best take care of your bike.
Brakes: Your safety is the most important. Wet roads are dangerous and Since you cannot brake hard or suddenly on wet roads, it is all the more important to keep your brakes in great condition.
Make sure to get the disks, inside of your drum brakes and liners cleaned. Further, make sure that the brake oil is sufficient. Make sure that the brake pads are in good condition.
Tyres: Never ride in the rain with worn out tyres. The treads of the tyres provide grip. Your tyres should have deep treads. Use a one rupee coin to test the depth of the groves.
Check for tyre pressure regularly to ensure it is at optimal levels according to the requirement of your bike. In the monsoon, since the air is colder, it contracts and the tyre pressure falls. Thus make sure that the tyre pressure is at optimum in the monsoon.
Covered parking: If possible, it is best to avoid parking in the open where your bike will get wet a lot in the monsoon . To avoid the bike’s colour getting faded, you could coat the bike’s body with Teflon before the monsoons. This will protect the colour so your bike will look younger for longer.
Headlights and tail-lights: Before going for a ride, ensure that the headlight, indicator lights, brake lights are functioning well. If you ride without the indicator light, due to the rain, a car coming from behind may not be able to see your bike and crash into you. Indicator lights will help prevent accidents. Headlight, indicator lights and the brake lights should not be faded. Ensure all the lights are working well.
Oiling: In case your bike has an uncovered drive chain, then you must make sure that it is oiled well and must also wash it regularly as a lot of mud may get deposited in it. All the hinges and levers should be well lubricated to have a smooth journey.
Clean up the Air Filter: Since the air is heavy with moisture in the monsoon, your air filter might not work at its best. The air filter might hold a lot of moisture making it get clogged, and not allowing air to pass through easily. This could mean your bike stalling, jerking and/or pulling the accelerator. Thus, keep a clean, dry air filter for best results.
Side Mirrors: For every Deaf bike rider, this is very important. Side mirrors on the bike are very important. Don't ride the bike even if one of the mirrors is broken. The side mirrors help you stay alert while driving. Hence mirrors are very important for Deaf's safety.
Follow the points that we just told you. Then you will be able to enjoy bike rides with your friends and go for picnics. However, remember your safety is your priority.
