I recall a version of this cake that became popular in the '70's that my Mother, my sister and I used to make often. The only difference is the cream center included coconut and mini chocolate chips and was meant to be served warm. You reminded me of how much I miss it.

I made mine with a box mix - I was lazy! Turned out perfect. I added 4 eggs, replaced water with 2 cup Evaporated milk (xtra for the pudding i added below) replaced oil with 1 cup butter, and one package Jello instant chocolate pudding. Super dense and moist! I made sure the consistency match yours 😁 it is a hit!
