England missed him not only in Test cricket but he was an awesome one day opener and a very good player of spin. People used to lay into him with his lack of footwork and getting caught behind alot but his shot types and strike rate would really unsettle bowlers.

i think the best batsman i have ever watched in the last 3 decades of wat i have watched in cricket...lot of eyebrows might go up but he wa naturally gifted and the most stylish and he made batting look so easy..any pitch any conditon any bowler and in any situation .once he came in u knew he will get a score for sure ......unfortunately if not for his personal life i think he wud have achieved a lot more and england wud have won more tournaments and matches for sure ..he had so much flare and confidence and runs wud flow from his blade

Trescothick is a name from Cornwall, south west England, which has its own history to an extent separate to the rest of England...hence why Cornish names tend to look a bit different. Not sure if Marcus Trescothick is Cornish..he's from the south west atleast.... but that's where the name comes from

Was reminded of another piece of useless information you didn't ask for... In Cornish, the prefix "tre" is very common, it literally means 'settlement'. Lots of Cornish names use it...Trelawny, Trenear etc etc. And thus we've reached the end of a lesson noone wanted.
