A former missionary told me of one of his investigators who read Lehi's dream for the first time, and excitedly exclaimed that he'd had that same dream years earlier. I'm certain that this was not an isolated case.

I joined The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints back in 2016. So almost 10 years ago now. Kinda crazy it’s been that long . I served a mission in Gilbert Arizona from 2019 to 2021. When I read Lehi’s dream in the Book of Mormon for the first time, I was hooked I truly found my testimony in the mission field .

In 1968 my companion and I were knocking on doors in a very Jewish neighborhood in Buffalo New York. We were invited into the home of a Jewish man who told us he had attended Hebrew University of Jerusalem. This gentleman told us that one of the requirements was to verbatim memorize the Torah. I was curious and asked him if he would translate Joseph’s blessing in Genesis 49. His translation of verse 26 in the KJV Bible was Joseph’s land would be a land with an unbroken chain of mountains, not “everlasting hills”. To my knowledge only the American Continent would fit that description.

Every ancient tradition in every culture across the world has a tree of life. Learn more on "the ancient tradition" podcast by Jack Logan. As she relates the conclusions of non LDS scholars, she not only reveals "the stubborn bits," as she calls them, found throughout the ancient myths of the world, she unveils LDS temple theology without saying it. It is mind-blowing.

As a born again Christian , I was told how off the mark Mormons were. As I studied , attended ward meeting, gained a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ ; I have come to realize how spot on Latter day saints of Christ really are. This history just amplifies that fact

There is a place in Nephi‘s account where it almost seems like he writes “fountain of water” instead of “tree of life”. I have always wondered was it a tree or a fountain that had God‘s love… This account clarified that there is a fountain coming out of the roots of the tree. THANK YOU I have been wondering that for a while. Nephi wrote: And it came to pass that I beheld that the rod of iron, which my father had seen, was the word of God, which led to the fountain of living waters, or to the tree of life; which waters are a representation of the love of God; and I also beheld that the tree of life was a representation of the love of God.

Well, obviously, Joseph, drawing upon his farm boy status, used his extensive network of ancient middle-eastern scholars, to provide him with this account, some 50+ years prior to it being announced to anyone else. I mean, it's obvious.

I'm a believer in the church, but what i read of zosimus it didn't strike me as being a strong parallel. Its got vague similarities, but I don't see big narrative connections that uniquely tie it to the BOM. Is there something I'm missing in the comparison?

Wait.. .wasn't the tree of life in the bible? Joseph smith used the bible story. Duh. Nothing new. Just great stories. Doesnt prove book of mormon anything.
@JD-pr1et3 ай бұрын
Well, just the two mentionings of the tree of life in the Bible is only just that, mentionings with a basic understanding of that tree. What you are missing is the placement of the tree of life in the Book of Mormon in the pre-Deuteronomist revision of Judaism of the first temple temple period and the visionary placement of Lehi and Nephi's visions as the motions and practices of the peace offering and the Day of Atonement rituals with the tree of life in it proper context in the temple. What is presented here is the parallels between Lehi's vision and that of Zosimus which was discovered many years after the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon.

@jake88823 ай бұрын
@TheBigZUnit what you missed is the Bible says the similar vision. Joseph smith just added to it. It's not like he didn't have the Bible to insert all that Isaiah filler in Alma.
