Hornby Trains has made the amazing locomotive to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Flying Scotsman USA Tour in 1969. The locomotive has amazing details including beautiful gold plating on the metal details and the wheels. This is a far nicer locomotive that I should be allowed to handle. I gave it one time around the layout then back in the box until I find a safe way to display it. But maybe you can talk me into running it again. Only 1000 are made! She is so lovely wow. ..my pop s mate had lots of Thea's train... I got book s on room set up for running train lines an few DVD from UK. An mag s on all thing train s I got a train book it's like a Bible of gage train.s. I have a black steam train set in 80 s it had a light an smock wire built in you could eye dropper water droplet s into the smock stack. An the train would smock like a real steam train. I so love one for a steam train Lego train moc. Like I had. In this form of train.

flying Scotsman had an extended stay in San Francisco at the end of the tour, Sir Alan tried to pay for the upkeep, by selling rides up and down the waterfront. She never made much money, but as a ten year old I certainly contributed my fair share.

This is a seriously beautiful locomotive, but I’m not sure if I would want to spend the money to just have it sit around. I’m like you I like to run my trains. So I think I might just look for one that isn’t gold plated on eBay.

@@bennickss I don't particularly like that it went to the USA, but for Alan Pegler (the locos then owner) it was the only viable way to keep her running at a profit (which failed due to several complicated reasons). The bell and cowcatcher are legal requirements for locos in the USA, and whistles have to produce a certain amount of decibels too, hence the larger chime whistle

OMG this is the gold plated Hornby flying Scotsman that Sam’sTrains reported on in a news video. I had no idea that the flying Scotsman toured the US. I guess it was for the centenary of the TCRR. You definitely don’t need to run this locomotive ever again. 1 lap on the Train Tsar Fun railway is enough. Keep it on display now and preserve the 18 carat gold plating forever. Models like this is why British locomotives may not be as grand in size as American or European locomotives but is why British locomotives are the best in the world. Great video and my wee lad who is 6 and train and Thomas obsessed loves your videos. We were lucky a year ago in 2019 we knew the Flying Scotsman was doing a tour of Scotland and we managed to visit Boness heritage railway and see it getting out away for the evening. The people were so kind the let him look inside the drivers cab. And amazing train and just massive in size with both it's tender's. We love the videos and look forward to viewing many more..

You can never have too many favourite steamies. Picture this. Up till not so long ago, I had a line-up of only five model/real steamies. Now a new sixth favourite model steamy, Rood Ashton Hall, has joined that line-up, and I haven't even met her in real life yet. I can be very charming and gently persuasive when I want to be, and I don't always use a certain little magic word. But pretty please run Scottie again. I'll bat my eyelashes to see her running if I have to. Hope this is enough to persuade you.

Hi my name is Phil I started on the footplate on the footplate at edgeley shed on the 4th of April 1961in 1962 I was made a fireman I did 50yrs on the footplate finished my time out at 9A but on the 19th of February 1973 I fired the flying Scotsmen from Manchester to derby works and on the 25th of August I fired lender from derby to Manchester it looks good Regards Phil.

Definitely going to buy this on my next paycheck. And two tenders is actually accurate to the Flying Scotsman's USA Tour and even dating back to when it was recorded at 100MPH, not just in the way of Thomas. I do believe it also had other modifications when visiting other countries, too. For the USA Tour, it was given Knuckle Couplers, the traditional USA Locomotive Lamp, and Cowcatchers (the latter of which could also technically be used as a Snowplow) to be useable on the USA Loading Gauge. That's what I've researched, anyways.

Beautifull. The Bell, Lamp, front whistle and cow grill were all specially commisioned for the USA tour. This model represents the rebuilt original Flying Scotsman which was originally an A1 class. The second Flying Scotsmants was built as an A3 which has the double chimney. I would display this model on its plynth and sat on its box. Thanks for sharing this lovely model.

That's every Collectors's fear about buying this. It's about the Gold going away, accidentally dropping it, etc. My fear is that if one of the delivery people just don't give a fuck, being lazy, and deciding to throw the box at the door and just walk away. It happened to me before.

I have a train clock that has The Flying Scotsman. There's a sign locomotive indicating directions to New York and Los Angeles. The image had me confused until I found out about the US tour of the Flying Scotsman. The artist took some liberties left out the American add-ons.
