'AMAZING Footage Shows the Moment Australian Sailor and Dog Were Rescued After Months At Sea'.
Footage shows the incredible moment an Australian sailor and his dog were finally rescued after almost three months at sea.
The video shared by the tuna fishing company owning the boat that rescued Shaddock, shows the crew approaching the Aloha Toha catamaran and Shaddock standing up on the deck.
The crew then requests Shaddock to disclose if he has drugs or weapons and proceeds to inspect the catamaran.
After spending three months adrift, Timothy Lyndsay Shaddock, 54, disembarked in the Mexican city of Manzanillo.
He was previously examined on board the boat that rescued him, the Maria Delia.
The Sydney man’s catamaran set sail from the Mexican city of La Paz but was crippled by bad weather weeks into the journey.
When the tuna boat’s helicopter spotted Shaddock’s catamaran about 1,200 miles (1,930 kilometers) from land, it was the first sign of humans he had seen in three months, Shaddock said.
The pilot tossed him a drink and then flew away, returning later with a speed boat from the María Delia, he said.
Shaddock said he had been well-provisioned, but a storm knocked out his electronics and ability to cook. He and Bella survived on raw fish.
Shaddock described himself as a quiet person who loves being alone on the ocean. Asked why he set out in April from Mexico's Baja Peninsula to cross the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia, he was initially at a loss.

@shawna8199I guess I don't know all the circumstances but I do know by looking at the sun he can work out which way north south east or west is and most boats going offshore would have a spare compass for sure, sailing in circles would be very difficult to do if you just use the sun to navigate - try and position your boat in a shipping lane he must have had charts and so forth - no I think this guy was incompetent when it came to sailing and seamanship and he should not have been out there, certainly shouldn't be treated a hero

@shawna8199 If he had really been in trouble, his boat sinking and he had gone to his life raft( if he had one which seems unlikely considering he was so badly prepared) then that would be admirable to survive. I guess I can begrudgingly give him some credit for fishing even though a drifting boat attracts loads of good eating fish and its not so hard to catch them.He had shelter on the boat from the baking sun and it rains plenty... his biggest problem must have been the terrible boredom I hope he had some good books

The helicopter found him, they dropped a bottle of electrolytes and told the guy they were sending a boat to rescue him. The fishermen must follow a protocol established by the U.S. Coast Guard and document the incident and report it to the Coast Guard, otherwise they would get in trouble, and it's also company policy. Once they brought him onto the boat, they gave him more electrolytes, some food, clean clothing and the crew doctor gave him a full medical check up and then let him sleep for several hours because the trip back to the coast would take over a day. There are rules to follow in the ocean, especially when you don't know who the person is, might be disoriented and confused and think they were there to rob him or something, or they might be drug traffickers carrying drugs, you never know.

The helicopter found him, they dropped a bottle of electrolytes and told the guy they were sending a boat to rescue him. The fishermen must follow a protocol established by the U.S. Coast Guard and document the incident and report it to the Coast Guard, otherwise they would get in trouble, and it's also company policy. Once they brought him onto the boat, they gave him more electrolytes, some food, clean clothing and the crew doctor gave him a full medical check up and then let him sleep for several hours because the trip back to the coast would take over a day. There are rules to follow in the ocean, especially when you don't know who the person is, might be disoriented and confused and think they were there to rob him or something, or they might be drug traffickers carrying drugs, you never know.

What an amazing story from start to finish, they looked in pretty good shape a true spirit of survival. What a beautiful story the stray dog Bella following him to the sea then adopted by the fishing boat crew! On another note I wouldn't have given up that dog however I do not know the circumstances. But there is no better way for Bella than being the mascot of a fishing crew! No better way!

Actuall the "weapon", the knife he had strapped round his neck, was probably critical to his survival, enabling him to clean the fish he caught. Sometimes the law enforcement drill is just overboard, frankly.

A story with a happy ending. Praise God and the rescuers! Inspiring to hear he turned into inner happiness as much as possible instead of despair. I feel like Bella was sent to him on a mission, to be there for him when stranded, sometimes dogs come to us like angels and we don't realise how much we need them emotionally until we look back and see how they carried us through tough times. This sailor obviously worked darn hard to ensure his and Bella's survival. It must've been quite an ordeal. I'm glad he was able to fish for himself and Bella and didn't have to draw a face on a ball (Wilson). These search and rescue choppers and boats are full of u sung heros. God bless them all.
