On first finger picking, I see you don’t pluck the top g string. This means you don’t play the Am?

Hi Robert! Good question - actually you are still playing an Am chord, notes: C E then A. On that pattern, like you said, you're not plucking the 4th string - so you could not press it and it wouldn't change the sound. I like to practice placing the chord either way to keep options open and for consistent habits but totally optional in that case.

@@PierreHacheMusic thx. I’m doing your fundamentals practice near daily. I think it’s helping. My wife has long been telling me I need to learn scales. She now laughs when I do the C major scale. What’s my next scale?
