This version reminds me of a jazz quartet: experts taking the spotlight then stepping back for their band mates. When Ozzy does his thing, the musicians hold back, Randy lets Aldridge do his thing, and everyone backs off when Randy takes the lead. So much space in a song that is so densely packed with genius.

My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom

I agree - I love the mellow middle solo classical feel and so wonderfully complemented by Ozzy's razor sharp voice and melody between guitar phrases - just a beautiful beautiful classical sound. Seeing Randy play just brings tears to my eyes. Everything he touches turns to musical gold - like Bach only on beautiful electric guitars.

Ozzy was obsessed with Randy that's why he was so prominent. Ozzy was a huge fan and was then shocked when Randy showed up to tryouts for the band. Then he was devastated when Randy died in a plane crash, it still brings tears to his eyes talking about him. The bat story: people used to throw plastic bats on the stage all the time, someone threw a real bat on stage and Ozzy didn't realize it was real until he started biting the head off.

This is a rare footage of Ozzy Osbourne's band w/ Randy Rhoads (guitar) in 1981... Rhoads died in 1982 in a small engine plane crash while on tour w/ Ozzy... The young guitarist was only 24 and had recorded 2 Ozzy albums ('Blizzard of Ozz' and 'Diary of a Madman')... Years later, Ozzy released a live album 'Randy Rhoads Tribute' w/ Rhoads on guitar. Randy Rhoads was a teenager when he formed the band Quiet Riot in the 70's w/ Kevin DuBrow (vocals)... they released 2 albums in Japan, but didn't do well... Rhoads would teach guitar to earn a living while playing gigs. In 1980, he got a call to audition for Ozzy Osbourne's band and had no idea who he was... Ozzy was impressed and the 2 wrote songs for Ozzy's solo career after he had been fired from Black Sabbath... Rhoads helped launch Ozzy's solo career, and his untimely death was a traumatic loss for Ozzy and everyone who knew him. Quiet Riot carried on w/ guitarist Carlos Cavazo and broke big in 1983 w/ the album 'Metal Health'.

Ahhhh yes! Randy Rhoads was so fantastic. I had one chance to see him with Ozzy, but my parents would not let me as I was a young teenager and they did not want me to see the opening act, which was a young & hungry Motley Crue. I never wanted to see the Crue after that but I eventually saw Ozzy years later with Zakk. I love Zakk, but Randy is unmatched except maybe EVH or Dimebag. Ozzy got arrested for public intoxication and was urinating in public, lol. Love that man! R.I.P. Randy>

The album this is off of, Ozzy's first solo album, Blizzard Of Oz, was the first album I ever owned. And I do mean album as in a Record. My Dad bought it for me at a yard sale in the late 80s. I practically wore out this album, but this song most of all. Couldn't begin to tell you how many times I listened to that intro. Randy was one of the greatest to ever touch the instrument. The amount of guitarist who were influenced by him is crazy. In the early 80s it was Randy vs Eddie Van Halen as the best player of that era. When you're considered actual competition for Eddie you know you're good.

THE LATE GREAT RANDY RHOADS, MY FAVORITE GUITARIST. HE WAS AMAZING, STARTED PLAYING AT 5, TAUGHT GUITAR AT 15 IN HIS MUSIC PROFESSOR MOTHER, DELORES, MUSIC SCHOOL: MUSONIA SCHOOL OF MUSIC, FORMED MACH 1 THAT QUICKLY CHANGED TO LITTLE WOMEN AND LATER TO QUITE RIOT, AND THEN JOINING OZZY AND WAS WORKING ON MASTERING CLASSICAL GUITAR. WHAT I SAW IN A VIDEO AND IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, HOW RANDY DIED IN A PLANE CRASH AT FLYING BARON ESTATES, LEESBURG, FL. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH OF THESE EVENTS ARE TRUE. THE TOUR BUS DRIVER, ANDREW AYCOCK WAS THE PILOT, WHOSE PILOTS LISCENSE WAS SUSPENDED, FLEW A PLANE HE DIDNT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE, CONVINCED RANDY TO GO FOR A TOUR OF THE PROPERTY WITH RACHEL YOUNGBLOOD, THE MAKE UP ARTIST, WHO HAD A HEART CONDITION AND ANDREW PROMISED NO CRAZY STUNTS LIKE THE 1ST FLIGHT WITH I BELIEVE DON AIREY THE KEY BOARDIST AND JIM DUNCAN THE TOUR MANAGER, ANYWAYS RANDY DIDNT LIKE FLYING BUT WAS TALKED INTO IT BY ANDREW THAT HE WOULDNT BUZZ THE TOUR BUS AGAIN WITH RACHEL ABOARD. AIREY WAS TAKING PICTURES OF THE PLANE WITH A TELEPHOTO LENSES TO GIVE LATER TO RANDY. ANDREW HAD BEEN UP FOR A FEW DAYS DOING COKE AND PRIOR TO THE FLIGHTS, HIS WIFE INFORMED HIM SHE WANTED A DIVORCE, WHO HAPPENED TO BE ON THE TOUR BUS. AIREY NOTICED THE PLANES WINGS TIPPING SIDE TO SIDE AND WITH HIS HIGH POWERED LENSE COULD SEE RANDY FIGHTING ANDREW FOR CONTROL OF THE PLANE AND ANDREW WAS TRYING TO CRASH INTO THE TOUR BUS. THE WING CLIPPED THE BUS AND CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE OF THE HOME. ALL BODIES BURNED BEYOND RECOGNITION, I THINK RANDY WAS IDENTIFIED BY HIS RING MADE OUT OF HIS INITALS, RR. PRIOR TO ANDREW DRIVING FOR OZZY, THE BAND RAINBOW WAS SWITCHING BUSES BECAUSE THEIR DRIVER, BILL MILLER WAS TAKING A HOLIDAY, THE DRIVER REPLACING HIM WAS ANDREW AYCOCK. RITCHIE BLACKMOORE ASKED JOE LYNN TURNER, UPON SEEING THE NEW BUS DRIVER, DO YOU SEE IT? JOE REPLIED YES, AYCOCK HAD A BLACK AURA AROUND HIM AND THEY REFUSED TO GET ON THE BUS WITH HIM AS THEIR DRIVER, INCIDENTLY RICH & JOE WERE INTO ENERGY, FREQUENCIES AND SUPERNATURAL PARANORMAL STUFF, THEY PAID BILL DOUBLE TO NOT GO ON HOLIDAY.

@@adrianscarlett That sounds like the Alice Cooper chicken incident. Cooper threw a live chicken into the crowd, and those maniacs tore the poor thing apart. Cooper later said he honestly thought it could fly and he was intending to release it to fly over the crowd... his excuse was that he was a city boy, never grew up with chickens and just assumed if it had wings, it could fly. I guess no one thought to ask him how many penguins he sees flying around, lol. I just find it interesting, in both cases it was "earnest ignorance" and an "honest mistake". Couldn't have been all the drugs and alcohol influence or anything, clouding their judgment. Though it's still better than Blackie Lawless (W.A.S.P.) openly admitting to slaughtering a live pig on stage as part of the show during the KFD (1997) era.

Ozzy was blessed with playing with some of the most top notch musicians. Sucks we lost Randy so soon, but it did open the door for Zakk Wylde who is also one of the greatest in history. Jake E. Lee, Joe Holmes, and Gus G. were no slouches either. I highly suggest No More Tears, Mama I'm Coming Home, See you on the Other Side, I Don't Wanna Change the World, and The Road to Nowhere. Also in regards to the bat thing: During a tour in the 80's, they did a stunt where Ozzy would bite the head off of rubber bats. During a show, someone tossed a dead real bat onto the stage. Ozzy didn't know it wasn't a prop, picked it up, and bit off the head.

It wasn't a rumor; Ozzy did bite the heads off both at bat and dove. The dove was in a meeting with record company executives, I think right when Ozzy signed his first solo record deal. The story was someone released some doves right after the signing, thinking it would be this beautiful moment. One dove landed near Ozzy, he grabbed it and bit it's head off, in front of the executives. Fortunately, for Ozzy, he had already signed the record deal. The bat was during a concert. Someone threw a dead bat on stage. Ozzy thought it was fake, picked it up and bit it's head off. Then had to get rabies shots. If you like this, you need to do "Diary of a Madman."

This is the Golden era of Ozzy when he had the guitar maestros Randy Rhoads (1980-1982) and Jake E. Lee (1983-1987), especial mention to Brad Gillis for filling Randy's spot on tour after his death, and then the early years of Zakk Wylde in the band. This three guitar virtuosos wrote great riffs that stands as classics in the Heavy Metal book. Kudos to Bob Daisley for writing most, if not all of the lyrics and music with Randy and Jake on Ozzy's first two albums "Blizzard Of Ozz" (1980), "Diary Of A Madman" (1981) and on "Bark at the Moon" (1983) and "The Ultimate Sin" (1986).

This isn't Zakk Wylde, it's Randy Rhoads. Zakk didn't become Ozzy's guitarist until years after Randy's death.

Zakk Wylde is HEAVILY influenced by Randy. Pays homage to him constantly. As well as all the other influential guitarists who came before him. But Randy is his biggest, as seen by the Randy Rhoades design on most of his guitars.

The great Randy Rhoads on lead guitar. Ozzy bit the head off a dead bat a fan tossed onstage. The intro was on an electric organ. The song is about real 19th-20th century British Satanist, Aleister Crowley. Led Zeppelin's great Jimmy Page bought Crowley's estate in the UK. The English word you're looking for, for the strings hanging from the sleeves, is "fringe", very similar to your word for them. Thanks for your reaction.

Rudy Sarzo is the Bass player, he also plays for Quiet Riot. The things hanging from Ozzy' arms are called Fringes. The Bat biting was at a concert someone threw a real bat onstage Ozzy thought it was fake grabbed it & bit its head , he needed rabies shots. Another time he was at a record deal signing someone let some doves loose, according to Sharon (his wife & manager) Ozzy was whacked out on drugs one landed in front of him & he bit its head off. There are pics of that! 🤘😈
