Lots of knives will be ruined trying this. Takes a steady hand, and a very specific steady angle. If you're new to sharpening, this may not be the technique to try with a knife you care about

Thx for the idea! Grinding machine must be set to the lowest speed. Additionally, it is difficult to hold the knife at the correct angle - on both sides! The angle specified by manufacturers in Europe for chef's knives is almost always 15. If you sharpen the knife to an angle of 12, you will have to grind for quite a while because you have to grind away steel. Your idea is therefore only good for experienced people. There are simpler methods. Skully from Stuttgart, Germany

If I am not mistaken, I believe the video shows the knife blade being sharpened from both sides. Also, I think there may be a little more time involved than just "3-minutes" to do this exercise---- but a training video (or even training someone in person) always takes more time than doing the actual job. Other than that, I think it's a great idea for sharpening a blade---Thanks .

Kept a kitchen knife at work for cardboard and whatever, sharpened it with a belt sander, it lasted 20 years, knives can handle much harsher conditions than what is generally shown in sharpening ,maybe not this, it would round the edge and make uneven cuts in the steel.

The first sanding disc is 100 grit. What is the second disc with the polishing compound? Also what is the purpose for cleaning with toothpaste at the end? I typically use a 17° angle for my knives which is typical of Japanese knives. I also use sanding belts and buffing wheels and precision guides even though I have many fine stones (...but, no time to work with them unless I am in the woods without electricity and a machine shop)!

DO NOT DO THIS. This method will overheat the metal on a microscopic scale which will make the steel soft and it will not hold the sharp edge for very long and this permanently ruins the knife.
