Great model and very interesting owner. I thought it was being flown a little too fast, especially on the landing and needed more use of the rudder in turns. A Storch should be able to almost hover with the flaps down into wind. The slats prevent any tip stall. Good filming Dom.

I agree on he needed to use rudder in the turns, at first it was all ailerons turns, it was tail sliding in the turns. And then near the end it was almost all rudder and very little ailerons in the turns. It did look like it was pretty windy, so that takes more coordination in the turns to fly smoothly. I fly in the wind 80 to 90% of the time so I've gotten use to it. I know some guys that wont fly in the slightest winds because there scared of crashing, I thing it makes you a better pilot if you learn to fly in the wind. He called it a 152 at the 10 second mark of the video Dom.

@@rcpilottony2338 i dont get that. I fly in 30 mph cross winds with most if not all my gassers. Its more fun. Some will even hover or land completely sideways at a walking pace. Or atleast until i kick the rudder to straighten it just be for the tires touch. Whats the point of flying without a challenge?

Very impressive, and the Wilga next door was rather nice as well.

Great vid, Dom. The Severin kit is stunningly accurate to scale. It reproduces a lot of the flying characteristics of the real Storch. The control surfaces are designed to give considerable authority at slow speed, which means they become too effective at higher speeds. If you fly the model at higher speed, the aircraft is very sensitive in all three axes. Furthermore, on the real one, the further effects of controls are very marked eg roll with yaw, so the overall effect is seen in instability and over-controlling. You really need reverse expo. I notice the pilot fought shy of using flap, maybe a good thing in those conditions. In calm weather, my Storch was more pleasant to fly at slower speeds. The stall is lethal, both on the real thing and the model. The large wings produce considerable rolling inertia, which means that once it departs, it very quickly enters a fully developed spin. Ask me how I know. As one witness to my crash said, the good thing about crashing off a spin is that all the bits end up in the same place.

Thanks for sharing. I was gobsmacked at the detail on this Storch. Pleasure to film it in action.

Any idea what size prop that is? Beautiful scale model, but it would be even better with a pilot.

I'm pretty sure he said 20" with 2.5x1 gearbox. I only watched once so could be wrong about his pre flight description

Nice plane. It could do with a stabiliser and seemed to be flown too fast. My little HK1100 can literally hover into a 20k/h wind and benefits from stabilisation. I fly that in conditions I won’t take the bigger stuff out in.

Look up the German pronunciation of Storch. You might find that it is pronounced as Stork. The model is a good rendition of the real thing. I think the spread of the undercarriage under load could be increased. I base this comment on a video recording that I made of the full size plane at Old Warden. The wind on the day of the model’s flight looked to be very gusty and slightly cross wind to the strip. The pilot was working pretty hard to get down. Well done.

Lovely model of an aircraft that I have always loved! One thing though - the correct pronunciation is 'Fee-seler' not 'Fye - seler'... in German, 'ie' is pronounced 'ee' and 'ei' is pronounced 'eye'. Effectively, you always pronounce the second letter of the pair.

Just to point out to Lou in case he displays abroad, it’s pronounced ‘Feeseler’ not ‘Fyseler’….only saying🤷🏻. Amazing machine and flying anyway. Needs a pilot?
