About the scaffolding ... one of the devs said that there's a reason Solas did a "quick fix" to the statues. I think they were eluding to what came out later, which is that Solas discovered that the Evanuris were close to escaping, so he had to hurry to start the ritual so he can put them in a more secure prison.

@@virginiamurr3703 oh okay. I don't mind the way it happened I just was hoping there was an explanation. Which thankful is the case. It's good that it makes sense in story.

@@Knight1029 Given how much I respect Bioware's writing, I tend to assume they'll explain things that on first blush don't make a lot of sense. Happily, that was true in this case. :-)
@Knight10293 ай бұрын
@@virginiamurr3703 I agree. I should have been clearly on that. Bioware does explain why they did something or went into a certain direction. The real issue I probably have is that I won't stop hearing from people how dumb the collapsing statue is. I want to know the reason so I can push back against that. Anyways you make a good point.

Solas is too smart and too powerful to miss faults in infrastructure.

My idea about the whole Solas is the big bad: I think how he moves forward with the chances of redeeming him will be based on how he was treated and respected (by the Inquisitor and everyone). He was my Inquisitor's friend, and he heavily respected her, and it seemed he was heavily conflicted with his choices. But in my sister's game, he wasn't, and he was so confident in his decision and gave off more of a villain vibe. So, I think this will have some kind of effect. However, Solas is tricky. He has used people before in the Inquisition, and he is obviously going to be using Rook. There is a chance he could betray us the moment he gets the chance, no matter how much we grow on him. But I have to believe his relationships will effect something.
@Knight10293 ай бұрын
That is a good point. Depending on how we treated him in DAI could inform on what happens to Solas. Whether he is redeemed or is a villain. That is a good point. I do hope Solas still is gonna be an antagonist of sorts. I just feel like that is right but I do think what you said about our decisions effecting him does sound really good. I would love to see the choices we made in the previous game have this huge effect.

I think why Mark Darrah added the other game names was because big companies were all trying to push for multiplayer so hard, they were saying that single player story driven games were dead. IMO, he's just making the point that we've seen the resurgence and those games are not in any way dead. Also, I really liked hearing the devs talk, because I feel like you get a better feeling of what they mean than the article quotes did. Luke Stephenson just did a vid on how the PC Gamer article on DAV was inaccurate, which is where a lot of the latest "BW hates it's older games" talking points started.
@Knight10293 ай бұрын
That makes sense. Mark Darrah using those big named titles does add weight to the argument that offline single player story games are alive and doing well. The PCGamer article was so bad dude. Its unreal. Glad to see other people talking about it.
@velemamba2603 ай бұрын
I enjoyed this video when I watched it. I think Darrah gets his point across more clearly here. With the context of him saying that this is the first game where they intentionally built the storytelling around the characters, you can see his point fairly clearly. And I think that's entirely true as well. In the other DA games, the characters were important and added a lot of life to the game, but if you took out most of them, the story could still play out basically the same. Or, if you ignore all the companions and never do their quests, the story will progress and won't change all that much. It sounds like with Veilguard, companion quests and main story quests will be closely intertwined in a way where you can't really skip them for the most part. Also as you point out, he only says "it feels like we lucked into" great characters. He could have made his point more cleanly, but I think people should also give him more benefit of the doubt that he's not just overtly dissing the game he worked on. People can't always give the most perfectly measured turns of phrase and we probably shouldn't read quite so much into ambiguous wording like this.
@Knight10293 ай бұрын
I agree with that. The previous Dragon Age games were made with the idea that you don't need the companions, bar a core three that are hard to get rid off or can't be removed. So, in Veilguard they made them basically mandatory. Which I don't think is a bad thing. My perceptive wasn't totally there because (I rightfully assumed) most people don't skip or kill companions. Because without them the games sre less interesting. So, Veilguard is basically just making them far more mandatory so they can be used in the story more. Which I agree with. Bioware's type of RPGs are great because the characters can actually be apart of the main story without being concerned with the player killing them at any moment. Loghain's impact would be less if you could just kill him at Ostagar. Totally agree. So, many people read to much into their words. What they said is just "Hey we felt like we lucked into great companions so we tried to ensure we make these companions feel like they are great on purpose for us." Which is something a lot of creatives feel. That they luck into success. Its not hiding any dislike or resentment for the previous games.

I can't wait for this game. It's definitely the game i am most excited for this year. I've played and adored every dragon age game. DA2 gets alot of flack. I understand that DAO was hard to follow, and DS2 recycled assets too much. But! DA2 had really incredible writing/characters/setting/plot. DAI was a pleasure to explore. Every location was stunning, and finding dragons to slay was rewarding. The experience also felt different as an elf compared to a human. Corypheus was a joke, but Tresspasser was a perfect ending. I think DAV will double down on everything i loved about dragon age. I think it will get dark and serious. I really want it to be dark with difficult choices. Regarding game informer. Some of the stuff Mark said was taken out of context or wrongly mis-referenced to "Bioware said". Bioware have only ever been respectful and proud of their older dragon age games.

@@RandomWandrer same. The game looks amazing and I can't wait to play it. Your thoughts on Dragon Age is similar to my thoughts. DA2 has some amazing writing, characters, setting and plot. It is just so well done. My favorite Dragon Age game and video game of all time. DAI was also such a good game. It was really great and I enjoyed for what it was. From what DAV has shown it seems like it will just be as good as the prior games. I am excited to see what will come. Yeah I can see the Mark Darrah stuff being a bit out of context. I hope he can expand what he said. I think that would be really interesting and good at setting the record straight.

They didn't switch out Solas as the big baddie (suddenly or otherwise) ... he was never intended to be that. It's a plot twist they've been projecting for a long time. Even if you just go back to Tevinter Nights (published four years ago) ... they give a clear picture of Ghilan'nain (the risen Evanuris on the left of Solas at the end of the gameplay trailer). She's sort of a "mother of monsters" (via horrific experimentations). They also introduce several of the companions (Lucanis, Neve, Emmerich) and NPCs (Strife, etc.) in the book. Bioware loves its plot twists--even in the individual short stories. :-)

@@virginiamurr3703 I expected that Solas wouldn't be the only main villain either. Before any information on the game came out I assumed Solas wasn't gonna be the only big bad and that his ritual was gonna cause something to go wrong. @@Knight1029 I get that. I know a lot of people see him as such. It's interesting how differing the views are. I never saw him as a potential true villain. Antagonist of a sort, yeah ... but not villain.
