Varana is such a fun player to watch. Every time he gets the puck there's a chance he'll score. As a Detroit fan I really wanted to see him play more games in the red and white, but it's probably for best that he gets a fresh start, and the blues kinda deserve to get something back considering all the good blues players on our roster now 😀

Wings certainly still got a return out of the deal for Vrana. The 1st round pick from Washington was traded up for Cossa. It's unfortunate they were not able to make this work, but we will not likely never know the whole story.

Two teams he left on bad terms . I’ve said it once to say it again real Xavier Laflamme vibes. Hopefully he figures it out in St. Louis but it’s definitely him.

I said this exact thing about him reminding me of Laflamme as soon as he went to the players assistance program. It wouldn't surprise me if management made it mandatory for him to go. Can't wait for the spittin chiclets to interview him on what really happened in the future. .. maybe we'll never get the full story.

There's plenty of room for speculation of who was right and who was wrong, but we will never know the reasons why so it's best just to move on tbh. He's gonna be good wherever he goes; he's got the talent to succeed.

It's not what he does with the puck....it's what he does without the puck. I think the perception was he's not a two way player and doesn't fit into the Lalonde system,

He obviously has talent probably more than he realizes but there’s a reason Washington and Detroit dealt him. The fact that he still seems clueless on whatever the reason is tells me he still hasn’t figured it out.

For those of you blaming Detroit or Yzerman, lets not forget that this Vrana is a grown man who has put himself in the position he now finds himself in. What's important is that we now pray for the man to defeat his demons and put his life back on the proper trajectory. He deserves the chance and I hope he succeeds. Lets put the blame where it belongs though.

The worst trade return for this type of scorer - EVER! I have no idea why SY was steaming so bad to get rid of Vrana. He was signed thru 2024 - so play him - then trade him at the TDL in 2024! That Players Assistance reasoning must have been pretty bad!

I will never understand why we didn't ride his contract out. It was a terrible move not to as Vrana's entire career was hanging in the balance because he has to perform this next year, and in Vrana fashion - he will. Except, the blues will benefit from it. I blame Yzerman first and foremost, but primarily Lalonde. It was a terrible managerial and business decision. The guy is starting to rub me the wrong way as he has this idea of control and where he came from, but... to me, Vrana was worth more to the org than Lalonde was. It's just an overall sense of priggishness that you could sense was oozing from staff that needn't not even exist. Kind of the like the middle manager in life who, despite you doing well, going above and beyond, producing profit for the company, and making that individual manager look better, they scold you for taking a day off that you're entitled to. It's that type of peon-brained personality that calls shots who ends up ultimately being a detriment to a successful program - whoever's primary influence it was.

@@augustsmith9633 No, I'm not. Those were solid trades. I wouldn't even be remotely upset if we didn't retain salary to be honest. It's a straight charity grab for St. Louis at a time we need to obtain assets more than ever. Vrana is a first or second + more at next year's trade deadline. It was a bad business decision regardless of perceived personalities in the locker room. Again, if we didn't retain salary and lock up a retention spot (you only get 3) for next year I wouldn't even care. In a rebuilding team, it was a not so smart move.
