thanks! there are tons of spec videos out there that really don't do much for me, anyone can look at a spec sheet and rattle off numbers. What mostly matters is how that stuff actually translates to real wold use.

Remarkably some of the best event photos were when I passed around my old D700 and a 55mm f1.2 manual lens at a party and everyone just played around with it. The results were wilder and more "authentic" than I could have gotten just shooting myself. Since I'm virtually always the only person with a camera that isn't built into a phone, it pays to have something that you don't worry about handing off to someone else whatever it might be.

Also cool about the erf: you can display the pictures after they are taken. This seems incredibly useful for me when doing for example flash photography: you can keep you eye on the subject while you check if the picture is correctly exposed. If it is over or underexposed you can inmediatly see it and change accordingly (instead of going to play back)

bought mine 8 months ago and honestly, I'll grab it before my SL/50lux if i have any foul weather, just need quick photos, have to lug it around for an extended period of time or just want it to fit in my pocket. it's pretty awesome. I did pick up an RRS plate/grip to use with a strap that has a QD socket for cycling and it works brilliantly.

I had an X100s when they first came out and loved it, except for the AF, which was frustratingly slow and inaccurate. It caused me to sell it, but I’ve missed it just the same. I was excited about the improvements introduced in the X100V - particularly the tilting rear display - but when I compared it to the X100F, I was disappointed to learn the D-pad was gone and replaced by a touch screen. I may be in the minority here but I strongly dislike touch interfaces, particularly on cameras. I feel fortunate that yesterday I was able to find a local camera store who still had a brand new X100F in stock for $999. Can’t wait to get out and get reacquainted with an X100-series camera!

I'm rocking the x100T and let me just say -- I dream of the V just for the updated lens. The T isn't bad but it's definitely not tack-sharp wide-open (in my opinion.) I went from the T to the V. I love it! I got it in just in time for one of my school portrait shoots. I normally shoot with an xt2 and 35mm lens, but I used the X100v with the TCL lens and all the parents commented how beautiful the images looked! I know lighting has a lot to do with it, but there’s just a certain character this camera produces.

I bought a X-100T when they first came out. 2014 or thereabouts. I still love it. Like you, I added it to my other cameras because of the size/weight thing. It blew away all my expectations as well. I am not into upgrading, as I get mentally attached to my gear...Ha ha.

Yeah had mine since start of 2015, still going strong. Bought an X-Pro 1 just a few weeks ago for half nothing, love it as well. As a minimalist and just shooting for myself, I thought I get rid of the X100T....well, not so sure anymore. As much as I love the XP1, ergonomically as well, feels good in the hand etc, the lenses make it much less compact, bought a small brevite jumper bagpack etc, then the 35/1.4 (18/2 came with the body) also a 7Artisans lens..well spend time and money instead of shooting...I really came to appreciate the simplicity of the X100T in terms of gear and size......so not sure what to do 🤪

I am not certain about the percentage but, I think the little EVF is able to show up to a 400% crop. I have it set up on my Xpro 2 where I can change it by pressing on the Fn button. It changes from Standard to 100% then 400%, and then back to standard again.

Great video! I like the D pad on the X100F for additional function buttons. I can feel them without taking my eye off the view finder to change settings, e.g. custom settings, or AF mode etc. The X100V has removed that and now has touch screen for extra settings. I don't really like that as I think it's awkward to change them whilst looking through the viewfinder. Have you noticed anything around that or find the loss of physical buttons annoying? The redesigned lens does attract me to upgrade from my F. Had my F for 3 years and pretty much has been my only digital camera I've used in that time.
@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures
@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures 3 жыл бұрын
I was worried about this before buying but to be honest, although I think it could do with one more function button, I don't miss the D-Pad at all. Holding the front flick-switch to one side for a few seconds lowers / raises the internal ND grad filter too, so if you used to have that bound to a button that's freed that up.
@alexjj
@alexjj 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point. I do use the top function button on my F for the ND filter. After writing my comment I went to see what I had used the other D pad buttons for and turns out 2 of them I have nothing, 1 is AF mode and I don’t think I’ve changed that in 3 years and the other is custom settings which I use all the time to switch film sims/colours etc. So in fact I just need one button to replicate what I do now 99% of the time. So I’d probably just set the top Fn button to be custom settings. My custom settings on the D pad meant I press down to bring up the option then keep pressing down to scroll down through them. However, I’m sure I can manage to press a button then use the joystick to change! 😅 I guess there’s nothing stopping me from buying it now...

I have another question. The lens on the camera is fixed and probably not repairable (for an affordable price) and the camera is obviously expensive. So how is the best way to protect the lens? I have two approaches I've considered. The way I'm doing it now is using a UV filter with an adapter. This way I'm pretty secure from getting it really damaged. The other way I was doing it, when I first got it and for a few weeks, was using no filter and just the lens cap. Either way I do it I also use a bag. (The lens cap doesn't stay on when there's a filter on it). So my question again, Is one way of doing this better/more advantageous than the other? I'm asking because maybe there's some consideration that I didn't realize. Thanks

unfortunately I'm going to have to get the adapter as mine didn't come with one to attach filters... an oversight on my part. How do you choose the focus point? That's my biggest problem after many years of shooting Nikon DSLR and Leica RF. When I tried an earlier version, focus was the hurdle.

On the streets, I experience a slight delay between releasing the shutter and the camera firing leading to occasional missed shots whereas my film Leicas are instantaneous. Do you find the M10 to be just as instantaneous as your film M bodies? And yes, the Fujifilm vs Leica debate rages strongly in my head for street pix. Thanks for your thoughts and greetings from Portland, OR. Daryl

How has the silver paint job held up for you? I have the black version and I notice the black paint can be scratched/scuffed pretty easily so I can see the brass body color underneath it. If the silver is scratched, is it the body brass colored as well or silver underneath?

Mine is good so far. Is the black brassing to an actual brass color like a Leica??? That’d be pretty epic.

Took five generations to get the X100 right. I have the X100S. It is okay, but there are a bunch of fiddly things about it I don't like. In addition, my Nikon dSLR makes better images. The X100V seems to have solved all the problems with the previous generations. One day... :)

Please allow me to give a constructive criticism towards this video, on a frontal perspective where it shows you and the camera, it is better to have you and also the stuff that you're presenting in focus. Personally I feel a bit dizzy when watching the video probably because my eyes are sending signal to my brain telling and trying to make the camera in front of you to be focus when it is not. Love the color grading, the lighting and the B roll though. Cheers

I have a question. I've been exploring setting the buttons with function setting and I wasn't able to find a way to set a button to change back and forth between LCD screen and EVF. (I like to primarily use only EVF but would like to be able to easily switch to LCD sometimes.) Is it possible to do that in any way? Thanks for any help.

@@benjhaisch I figured it out after I asked. You can set the Fn 2 button to do this. For some reason, it seems some Fn buttons have more options than others. I found that Fn 2 had this option. To set Fn 2 for this purpose you can go to: Set Up, Button/Dial Setting, Function (Fn) Setting, Fn 2, View Mode. Then you can use Fn 2 to toggle threw the viewing modes. It works pretty well. The purpose I wanted this option is that I was using strictly the EVF but wanted to use the LCD for the menu. This seems to be the easiest way to achieve that.
