I live in Vancouver now and was born on the east coast. I have lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Montreal, Manitoba where I saw the Northern Lights, visited Lake Louise and Banff. I lived in Scotland and England for 4 years. My husband was a Scot from the Glasgow area. I love Canada. Because Canada is massive I would visit it in chunks. May I suggest you fly to Vancouver and visit for a week then take the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Calgary, Alberta to get the full effect of the Rockies. There is a direct flight from Glasgow to Vancouver.

Greetings from Montreal! I'm a little hurt that the video didn't include us. I'm a little biased, but I think that Montreal is Canada's best city. 🙂 You could devote a whole episode to it. I haven't been to Golden, or Jasper. But everywhere else. In B.C., my favorite place to visit is Vancouver Island. I encourage you to visit Canada!

I live in Niagara Falls, the rafters were in the Niagara river, going to the rapids. The entire Niagara region is filled with parks, bike trails and a 250 mile long trail along the escarpment of Lake Ontario. Toronto is two hours away. I’ve been across Canada and yes it really is that amazing. They didn’t mention the desert 🌵

I am 66 now. Born in and living in a suburb of Vancouver BC. Canada. I have seen some of this shown. I will likely not even see all of the places shown. Not to mention have the years and resources it would take to experience Canada fully. That is also why , when I hear of tourists seeing Canada I am joyfully glad for them and somewhat envious at the same time. The country is just so damn big!

I live in Alberta and I can confirm that Banff and Jasper are places we frequent often. We spend most of our weekends in the summer hiking and camping in those areas, and in the winter you can still hike and go skiing. It’s a highlight of living in this province! I am a Canadian who has traveled a fair bit. Banff and the Rocky Mountains in general are breathe taking. The lakes change colours throughout the year because of the mineral deposits from the spring runoff. Personally, I enjoy going to the natural hot springs in the winter. Watching the snow fall as you relax in the warm waters in amazing.

The one thing to note is that it often costs more to travel within the country than travelling abroad for vacation. I've looked at prices for a vacation in Vancouver from Quebec and it costed more than going in the Caribbeans or Florida. That's the main reason I didn't get to see all of my own country yet

As a Canadian, I just want to say Thank You for showcasing our beautiful country. It is absolutely stunning! I was born in Newfoundland on the far east coast. It's actually the oldest city in North America and has so much history. In the video you'll see Signal Hill. It's called that because the first transatlantic message was sent from the UK to this location by Guglielmo Marconi. Look into that it's fascinating. The Newfoundland landscape is very much like Ireland. Alot of Irish settlers migrated to the island so our culture is very Irish! Our accent is VERY different from the rest of Canada and it's based on the Irish. I think you would love it there! I lived in Ottawa, Ontario for over 25 years and it's such a pretty city. It's so well taken care of because it's the capital of Canada. It's where our government is located as well. Canadian democracy is based off the British so that's why the buildings resemble those in Britian. There is so much to do both in the summer and winter seasons. If you're an outdoor person, Ottawa is the place to go. It's not as large as Toronto, but such a great city overall. I miss it!

Canada is a massive country, so many of us haven't had a chance to visit every part of it, but 100% of these images are still extremely familiar to me. We see them in our calendars, our jigsaw puzzles, and our friends' Facebook pages. I almost take some of these places for granted, but I can verify that of all the places I HAVE been to, they really do look like this. These photos are pretty representative of what they look like in person (on a sunny day, at least).

I was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1951. My family and I immigrated to Vancouver, BC in 1957 when I was 5 years old. I'm now 71 years old and have lived here ever since. Over the years I thanked my parents many times for making the sacrifice by leaving their families and loved ones and bringing my sister, my 3 brothers and myself to a new and promising life in Canada. Even though my heart will always belong to Ireland, us kids would never of had the life back there that we were so fortunate to have growing up in such a wonderful country as Canada. Mert, if you get the chance to come here you won't be disappointed wherever you go. I've been to all the provinces and territories over the years and have loved been in all of them.

I am so enjoying visiting my country through your eyes. I was happy to see Cape Breton mentioned here, but they didn't mention its Scottish roots! Kitchen parties, highland dancing, world class fiddlers, just the friendly personalities. And the Acadian Forteresse Louisbourg. It's a wonderful place and you shouldn't miss it if you come to Canada. You're also correct about the size of the country. It's difficult, and expensive, to visit everything. I wish we had a decent train in Canada. Passenger trains share the rails with cargo trains, and can be made to wait for hours at the side of the track waiting for the cargos to pass. Still my favourite mode of travel though! I'm in Ontario of Acadian heritage, so I know the East Coast and Quebec pretty well. My goal is to go west by train.

@@jeanbolduc5818 Just to put a small thing into perspective when you say the largest carbon sites in the world and nice mountains but for how long, and that the swiss and Austrians have the best infrastructure and mountains in the world. British Columbia is 23 times larger then Switzerland alone. BC's Protected Parklands total 141747.55 square km's which you could fit Switzerland in 3.5 times. Austria is only 2x Switzerland by land area. Canada is 9.985 million km² where as Switzerland and Austria Combined is like 125000 km². Making Canada 80x the size of both those countries combined. They are not even comparable when you factor in the shear scale and size of Canada. The Canadian oil sands alone are larger in land area then both those counties combined which to your point is actually kinda scary, although I can tell you if our current gov has its way there won't be any oil industry before long and we will be significantly poorer in the short term at least but perhaps that's necessary at this point, I'm not totally decided one way or the other, too complex for me to have a concrete opinion on.

I’m an Albertan, and I go to the Bow River Valley a few times a year. This is where Banff is. Without failure, if someone comes to visit me from somewhere else, no matter the time of year, we drive down toward Calgary, nip off the main highway and slink along the range roads parallel to it. This way we roll along the rugged sprawling prairie as the mountains get closer and closer before making the sharp right turn back out onto the main road into the peaks and then it’s onward into the park! I LOVE the way people glue themselves to the window with their mouths open. It makes me really proud. They don’t know where to look because you’re surrounding on every side with breathtaking views. It’s always fun to catch a wild life sighting too. Sometimes it’s just yotes or deer or antelope, and into the mountains you can see sheep and deer moose bears and my favourite, elk! Once, I had a visitor from our east coast, saw no wildlife at all, until we got into the park and as we drove past a frozen river we saw 3 wolves lounging in the snow. The first and only time I’ve seen wolves there, very rare and I’ll never forget it. Whoever you are, if you’re reading this, please come visit us, we would love to have you 😊 🏔 🦌 ❤️

I grew up in Richmond, and Vancouver gets a bit of flak from those who prefer a more engaging nightlife/entertainment industry. Vancouver offers an amazing balance of wildlife and general living, but if you prefer to be entertained by others/social activities, it can fall flat vs Toronto/Montreal. To me, the difference is do you like experiencing things of your own accord, or having them packaged for consumption. Both can be amazing, one often requires you to take the initiative to go find.

I’m a Vancouverite. Been to 9 out of 10 places on the list. You are spot on. Vancouver is a wonderful place to live if you enjoy a laidback, outdoorsy kind of life style. There are so many incredible places surrounding the city. The whole province of British Columbia is spectacular. The climate is also the mildest of all Canadian provinces. As you can imagine, all of this comes at a pretty spectacular price tag. Vancouver is easily one of the most expensive cities in the world. How expensive? Let’s just say that every single detached home owner in Vancouver is a (multi-)millionaire because of the real estate value. It’s insane. Banff National Park, in fact all seven national parks in the Canadian Rockies, is definitely a must visit for anyone coming to Canada. The scenery is exactly the same as what you see in photos and videos. You can imagine how breathtaking it is to be surrounded by it. Because of the sheer size of the country, you will rarely be surrounded by a crowd no matter where you go. It’s easy to find a little piece of heaven just for yourself if you so choose. We have been taking vacations in many beautiful places where there’s nobody in sight for days. If you love peaceful nature, you’ve got to come visit!

Mert, you fill the hearts of Canadians with joy as you revel in the beauty of our country. From sea, to sea, to sea, all ten Provinces and three Territories offer warm and welcoming people, stunning vistas of nature and a diverse panoply of cities, huge and small, that offer adventure, peace, and excitement, along with the best, freshest, most creative array of international food one can find in the world. Throughout our country, each of the four seasons will overwhelm you, as will our 2 million freshwater lakes and the 37 national parks and 10 national park reserves in Canada that represent 31 of Canada's 39 terrestrial natural regions and protect approximately 336,343 square kilometres of Canada's lands. If that weren't enough, add to that an incredible number of Provincial Parks across the country. Before you decide on a final place to settle, do yourself a favour and travel throughout Canada. You might just surprise yourself as to where you decide to call home. Cheers.

The other places i'd love to visit but while being the second largest, and quite beautiful, it is incredibly expensive, especially out West, thus limiting more travel.

As a proud Canadian, 🇨🇦 I just wanted to let you know that while the video captures some of the stunning scenery in Banff, it's even more breathtaking in person. And if you're looking for a truly awe-inspiring experience, you can't miss the Northern Lights in the Arctic. But it's not just our natural wonders that make Canada special. Our big cities like Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto are vibrant and diverse, with plenty of cultural experiences to enjoy. And let's not forget about the unique charm of the East coast of the Maritimes. Quebec is another province that's not to be missed, with its European-inspired architecture and culture. There are not many European tourist that would venture north thankfully. You have to realized that for European going into the nature means they are always at an hour walk from a village or city. I made firends with some Belgian when I was in Germany and we talked alot about the nature in Canada and how great it was. So much so that the next year they called and said that they would visit in the summer and to organise a two week canoe trip. To my horror they came in with full adidas track suit and shoe. Backpack, sleeping bag and tent from WW2. I made them buy some stuff making sure they had at least hiking boot for the long portage. Turns out it was not needed because we did not make it to any portage. We spent two days to make about 20km and they were complaining the all time. The third day they refuse to move. I ended up going back alone to where we started and walked 40 km up the road to finally get a signal and arange for the charter plane that was suppose to pick us up two weeks later, to come the next day and pick us up 20 km from where we left. Quite embarassing to say the least. When I made it back to the lake shore it was late and decided to sleep there and leave early in the morning to not miss the plane at noon. When I made it back to camp, it was like I had left for weeks. All three of them were crying and screaming because they thought I had left them there. Obviously not all European are like this. But this was my experience and I would never take anybody from europe an hour away from civilization. I was young and adventurous so maybe it was a little bit my fault.

Ottawa is more bilingual than most cities but you are way more likely to hear people speaking English. When visiting Montreal it seemed like i was almost as likely to hear English as French. My guess is Montreal is closer to 50/50. Most of us anglophones living in Ottawa can understand and speak French to some extent though, and many are fluently bilingual.... In both of these great cities you are likely to be understood speaking either language and will rarely encounter negativity based on the language you choose to speak. I've had pleasant conversations where i'm speaking English and the other person is speaking French because we both can understand each other's language better than we can speak it. Actually, many of my Chinese friends growing up would have these 2 language conversations with their parents, but with English and Cantonese/Mandarin.

I grew up in Calgary (a few hours drive southeast of Banff), now I live in st. John's, NL (the easternmost city in North America). I've toured a large portion of the country, especially the less well known areas like the east coast and arctic. Here's a few answers to some of your questions. Yes Banff really is that beautiful although it gets quite busy with tourism in the summer and some of the best views will require long hikes to really see. However just south of Banff is Kananaskis Provincial Park which is 80% as beautiful with 20% of the traffic. Depending on what kind of activities you are interested in, it is sometimes better to focus on the provincial park. Jasper is immediately north of Banff. Quebec City having fortified walls is extremely unique in North America. The age of walled cities was already coming to a close when the continent was settled and there weren't many cities at all back then. There are more walled cities in South and Central America though just not in the US or Canada. Most cities in Canada tend towards very modern architecture simply because they really aren't that old. Ottawa is the capital and sits on the edge of Ontario and Quebec which is why it seems to have both English and French influences. Vancouver is a good city for nature-oriented people who enjoy a modern city although it isn't really known for that as much. Vancouver is very much the Los Angeles of Canada. The cost of living is truly insane, one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. While the proximity to nature is excellent, you either won't have the money or the free time to actually take advantage of it. It has the mildest weather in Canada and is pretty much the only major city to sit on the ocean (Halifax and St. John's do as well but aren't nearly as big, Quebec City sits on a river that leads into the ocean) Calgary is the more common choice for someone looking for a modern city with great proximity to the outdoors. Calgary and Vancouver are separated by the Rocky Mountains so the "type" of nature is very similar. Calgary has much more severe weather but has vastly more affordable cost of living and similar salaries. In terms of typical disposable income Calgary is probably the highest in Canada depending on year. Newfoundland in particular is very interesting and unique. Newfoundland is one of the oldest parts of North America, St. John's is one of the oldest cities on the continent. Newfoundland was not a part of Canada until after WW2, it was the last province to join. The culture is very distinct from the rest of the country. Newfoundland is very rural for the most part and those rural communities were isolated for hundreds of years. This lead to the development of Newfoundland English which is beyond an accent and is technically a dialect with unique vocabulary and grammatical rules similar to Irish English crossed with London English and a bit of Scottish English. The video mentioned George Street but didn't say why it's relevant, this street has more bars on a single street than any street in North America. Which is extra funny considering the city has a population of just over 100,000. If you actually want to take a trip to Canada, DO NOT underestimate the distances. Pick one or two provinces for a single trip, trying to do more will only lead to disappointment. Inter-Canadian air travel is very expensive, there are no cheap flights here like there are in Europe. Once you land, it will not be economical to fly anywhere else during your trip. Do not rely on public transport, it is almost universally useless, the country is just too big and too spread out. Rent a car. Based on your interests/tastes I think the best place to start would be a trip to Banff/Jasper based out of Calgary or Edmonton. You should be able to get a convenient flight to Calgary. From there rent a car. If you have camping gear that's the best way to travel through Banff and Jasper. You could also rent a motorhome. If you'd rather stay in hotels, be prepared for high costs inside the actual parks. You may wish to spend the days in the parks and the nights outside of them. Banff and Jasper run parallel to Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton so you're never too far from a city to spend the night in. The other reason to base your trip from this region is access to Golden. Golden was mentioned in the video and it is actually closer to Calgary than Vancouver is. From Calgary you could easily hit all three parks in one trip by car. I'd recommend a trip of 7-14 days for this journey.

Great advice, and I agree don’t underestimate the distances. Also depending on time of year driving through the mountains can take quite some time due to construction or road conditions. Plan ahead and do some research before your trip. It’ll make your visit more enjoyable. Drive BC is a fantastic resource if you are planning to drive through BC, the traffic cameras and the road reports are helpful and can offer up alternative routes and give you an idea of delays and detours and if that detours will add many more hours. There are many beautiful towns and campgrounds throughout the interior of BC though so a delay or detour might just be a fun option.

It took me 10 years, but I got to visit most of my country, inspiring me to write my 2nd symphony (each section of this large orchestral work describes one of the characteristically unique parts of Canada.) The first time I drove across the Prairie provinces (yes, days of driving, but...) I was absolutely awestruck by the grandeur and immensity of it all. Each of the Maritime provinces has a unique cultural origin which is always on display. Québec and Ontario are the land of vast endless forests and lakes. And British Columbia is simply beyond words to describe it. The last part of the country is the far north, and no other country in the world possesses anything as unique. I'm glad you get to experience my homeland through these videos, but my most fervent wish is that you one day get to experience it in person, the only way to truly appreciate it.

I’ve lived in Canada all my life but unfortunately I have never visited any of these places. Would love to go before I get too old though. I have however seen a little of the northern lights when I grew up in Ontario but moved to Manitoba in my early twenties. I appreciate people like you from other countries who would love to come visit, or even move here to my beautiful country. God bless from Canada 🇨🇦😊

I'm a French Canadian. I lived nearby Montréal. I know Québec city very well having been there several times over the years... Yes, we still battled to keep our French culture and language alive and kicking... it's not an easy task being surrounded by English culture though... But still, it's still going strong at the moment because we're still fighting for it! That's a part of our heritage, I would say! Let me say, I went to England and Ireland several times but never to the western part of Canada because it's so much expensive. It costs me less money to go to Europe than to go to Vancouver let's say... Oh, I'm from the province of Québec! Canada is HUGE! so obviously going from Vancouver to St-Johns, Newfoundland cost a leg and a arm!!! Also, as of maybe what 20 years ago, I could see from my home the Northern Lights... but now due to the growth of the cities surrounding me, with all the lighting pollution, I can't see them no more and I'm so sad about this... Sometimes, progress and evolution are not that good! Let me say honestly though: Vancouver is one of the more expensive city to live in in Canada! But yes, it looks marvelous and breathtaking... As a Canadian, I've been to Ontario several times (remember, Ontario is BIG)... and mostly, I've travelled a lot inside Québec which is also BIG!!! that's pretty much it as far as Canada is concerned... then I went to England a few times and Ireland and that's about it for my experience of travelling.

Salut!

I live in Northern Ontario & in my backyard behind the fence is a creek & a forest. Once a week a mother bear and her 2 cubs come right up to the fence (this happens to brown & black bears in the spring last year) But now, there's a mother with just one cub. We have no idea what happened to the other cub. We're hoping it grew up fast and travels solo.

Same!! I'm in N.On too. We have a mama and 4 cubs that love trying to get in our garbage bin at least once a week. 🐻 They'll be waking up hungry yearlings pretty soon. The morning walk to school is always a fun game of 'will today be the day the we are eaten by a mama bear' 😆

I have laughed and wept and felt great pride watching your videos. I've traveled through most of Canada, lived in Quebec and Alberta, and it is certainly a vast, varied and beautiful country. When you visit Banff National Park, ensure you visit Moraine Lake. It really is the most extraordinary blue. The photos online cannot possibly capture it. Thank you for your charming videos!

The Rideau is a river, but the video was wrong in saying it was the “oldest river in North America”. The Rideau Canal system was built along the river, bypassing rapids with locks. The canal system is what is the oldest in North America.

Newfoundland was British (not Canadian) until 1949 when it officially became the tenth province with Labrador being linked together later. Cape Breton Island is very eclectic with both strong French and UK influences. Alexander Graham Bell lived there later in life and his home was called Beinn Bhreagh (Gaelic for Beautiful Mountain). Gaelic is being taught in school in some places not just spoken at home. South of Cape Breton Highlands is Louisbourg, NS which has the French fortress of Louisbourg. Great historical places in Canada, if you like, but not as old as Scotland, but awesome places to see. The mountains in the west are very dramatic and stunning. The city of Churchill, in Northern Manitoba you can see polar bears in certain times of the year. Canada has many wonders but you are right in saying not everyone in Canada has traveled to see them all.

I live in Alberta, if you were to bust Banff, stay at the Banff springs hotel, it is fit for a king, literally, it is one of the few hotels that the royal family can actually attend due to the massive list of accommodations they can provide, not to mention the beauty of the surrounding buildings and park
@Albertarocks

I also live in Alberta, born and raised. True, the Banff Springs is fit for a king. But considering the way Canada is going, Alberta is now the last stronghold of sanity. And today I doubt Royalty would even dare travel to Alberta. Except I noticed that Justin the Bastard Castro visited Calgary last week and with all the truth I can muster, I am shocked that he escaped the province with his life.

As a Canadian living in Southern Ontario have seen very little of Canada and more of other countries. Only been to Northern Ontario and alittle bit into Quebec. But yes we do have a beautiful country that we take for granted and would love to visit more but considering our size its hard to visit everything.
