This is Part 1 of my weekend getaway motorcycle roadtrip to 'The Okanagans' specifically to Summerland, British Columbia Canada. Princeton to Summerland Road and Trout Lake FSR. Amazing roads, amazing scenery and plenty of exploration in the area. A whole new world of motorcycling has opened to me when I decided to build an off-road 'capable' bike by turning my Duke 390 into a Scrambler/ Mini ADV motorcycle. I am no longer limited to pavement as I had been on my previous bikes. I am no longer limited to paved parking lots or campsites. This experimental journey has been a success.

Happy New Year everyone! Let's leave 2020 behind and blast into a great 2021!

Very cool adventure. Light and shadow wreak havoc on pot hole visibility. I've been on some trails where the shadows make everything look like a rock or deep hole. Happy New year from PEI.

@Island ADV, Thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment! A Happy New Year to you as well from the opposite side of the country! ..we couldn't be any more further away from each other! :D Your comment is truly appreciated as I don't have a lot of experience riding off-road. I don't have people to ride with as well so my skills really don't improve just riding on my own. I hope to change that this coming riding season however. Comments from more experienced dirt riders help so much! Thanks!

@@604Bluelight I was the same way this summer. There are safe ways to push your limits on the trails though. Like I have this one trail out here that I sometimes go to and just do laps on. I find it's a good confidence builder.

@@IslandADV Great to hear. I'll be doing a lot of practicing as soon as riding season start again. I've found a couple of places where I can hone my skills on that isn't so far away from me. Thanks again.

@@IslandADV ps. I've never been to PEI and it's always been on my bucket list to visit. Maybe in a few years when work, life, schedules align, I'll finally go on my cross Canada motorcycle road trip and spend some time over on that side of the country. I'll check out some of your videos now and subscribe to your channel. Glad you left me a comment here so now I know your channel exists. Cheers!

Nice video, I'd like to check out those roads one day. Not being able to see potholes is a bit concerning. I am sure with practice, these roads will be a piece of cake. If it was me though, I'd have stopped for a swim in some of the lakes along the way :)

A dip in one of the lakes along the way would be so awesome., especially on a hot day. Maybe next time I'll take my time and stop. Being it was my first time and all alone, it was a little concerning and I was constantly worried about time and getting out of the 'unknown' safely. The little mishap of when I almost went down had me riding at a much slower pace than the time I had allotted for myself being out there. Yes, with more experience, these anxieties should disappear. Waiting for the days when I have friends to ride with on these off-road adventures., I can only imagine how much more enjoyable it would be. ;)

You need a Sat phone

There's a service called Inreach by Garmin. A friend showed me how it works and it's pretty damn cool. The Garmin works off satellite and can act as a hotspot for your phone so you can call/text out while out of service range. I haven't looked at subscription prices as I'm not ready for anything like that yet, but maybe one day some day. Still would be better to be riding with a buddy though.

IMO, very brave to be doing this stuff by yourself - freaky and sketchy... but that's a nervous, untalented road motorcyclist speaking!

I'll tell ya it was a hump I had to get over that's for sure. Even a minor bike breakdown would put me in a bit of a dilemma. I guess having done solo bicycle tours in the past has taught me most of that is in your mind and you'll never get anywhere if you're trapped within it. My Hawaii trip also gave me a huge boost in confidence to be doing this stuff all alone. You create the greatest experiences that way. Having said that, it would be much more relaxed and enjoyable if you're riding with a buddy for sure.
