Honda Element Rear Hatch Release Mod - Free DIY

Rear hatch release from the inside of the Honda Element. With some small parts and tools and a little creativity you can do this yourself. Why Honda didn't do this from factory on Elements is a mystery to me.

Just watched and will be doing this to my Element hatch. BTW - The handle was level, but the car was not on level ground.

I wish that were the case but unfortunately it was my poor attempt at drilling the 2nd screw hole. I rushed the job and ended up not being level. I'm ok with it though because it's not the kind of thing that's really noticeable. Thanks for the comment.

Hey @RSE, thanks for the comment. I've had my 5spd manual EX for 4yrs now and I had no idea there was a huge Element following out there. I'm just slowly discovering what others have been doing to theirs and there are a lot of great ideas! Maybe I'll put up more Element videos in the future as as you may have noticed, my channel isn't really Element focussed. I'll check out your channel now too!

This may be a dumb question but will it still work if the back is locked?

Hi Courtney, not a dumb question at all, in fact a good one. This would not work if the doors were locked. This is essentially an extension of the rear hatch release so it would act just as the hatch release lever is used from the outside. This is probably for the better as I can see myself accidentally locking my keys inside the car if I am able to go out the back while the doors were locked. Thanks for stopping in! :)
