I spent many years sailing all kinds of boats on east coast US in my teens and early 20s. Then business, life, family happened. At 65 this reminds me I need to get back out there before time runs out. Thank you, thank you.

Terrific video. Rhonda, your narration was superb - enjoyed it so much with the old postcard and photo images - was a really nice addition. And there were two boats anchored? The island seemed a bit eerie, maybe because of the abandonment, but a good insight into nature reclaiming it's place. Loved this. Happy Sails.

Brampton Is in the 80’s was a great weekend away. Buzzing with holiday makers and backpackers. I recall swimming in that pool when a king tide overtopped it and fish from the nearby channel got trapped in the pool when the tide dropped. Unfortunately there are a lot of resorts now abandoned up the coast once the airlines sold them off after the boom in the 80/90’s. Lots of memories up that way.

Loving your videos. I spent a week holidaying on Brampton as a child, and another week when my wife and I were first married. Fond memories of the train and of snorkeling on the shallow reef next to the airfield. The trip as a child was my first time on a plane and landing on that strip in a Twin Otter in a crosswind was pretty scary. So sad that so many Barrier Reef resorts are abandoned. One of your old photos had an ex-WW2 Fairmile launch at the jetty. I remember a day trip on it to Linderman Island. (I think Linderman Resort is also abandoned now.)

Cool place and fantastic seeing so many butterfly's but that runway and beach will make it a place of considerable interest if things were to get interesting in the Pacific. I would imagine it was established in WW2 to protect the top end and the seas routes. The Australians put out a network of radio station spotterd on remote small islands throughout the SE Asian island chains. The sort of blokes that could survive on their own and disappear into the bush if anyone turned up or uninvited Aircraft began flying over.
