How long do you let the paint dry for? I'd imagine if its left too long it'll be almost impossible to get it off with just a polishing machine. So i'm guessing there's window of opportunity in terms of... when to buff?

Your videos are awesome and I can’t stop watching them. We’ve some scratches on our 10 year old fiesta and it makes me want to try it. Mind if I ask a couple questions? What ‘base’ coat should I be using? Can I use a spray tin from Halfords that’s the same colour as the car, or do you use a generic colour? How long between applying the paint and then buffing it? What budding compound are you using? Thanks in advance for being awesome and sharing this

I know for a fact that the road rash on the lower doors will not last especially on a Porsche. This is a patented method called SSR sprayless scratch repair. I have been doing this for 14 years. It is effective, but the camera lies a bit because it does not pick up everything. SSR is out of Texas and has been around for at least 17 years

Foam pads can be maintained dragging a screwdriver across a DRY pad at high speed. This will remove the abrasives/foreign material in the pad. Careful to angle the bit so it’s not too aggressive OR pointing into the rotation. Haven’t tried on wool or terry cloth, but it works great on foam.

Hi, thank You for the video. I’ve tried Your method. I’ve used the spray paint from can with exact number of color to match with my car’s color. But I didnt spray it directly on a car, I made few sprays to a cup and then I applied to a car with my finger - as was shown in video. The paint seemed a bit transparent and too much liquid, so I aplied 2 layers and then waited about ten minutes and then it was literaly IMPOSSIBLE to get the coulour out with the rotary pad 🙈 So how long time is best to wait? 3, 5 minutes? Is the colour cured, when you begin to polish it, or is it still sticky to touch ? Thank You!

Question :- If I used a manufacture supplied "Touch Up" kit, which comprises of a one tube of the body colour and one tube of the top coat lacquer, would using the base coat only work in your fix ?. @cvrpov By two stage do you mean any car with a metallic base and clear? Thats what i have, light colour too on my 97 lexus. Trying to find a work around bc the last owner "touched" in about a dozen chips and a deep key scratch and they've all come out a darker shade AND theyre not flush at all just painted chips. Maybe a rush job and not a proper paint match. Might try adding hardener letting it sit in the lid for a few mins and trying the card swipe method as well as the crown and wet sand method. One chip at a time and see what works...

Is appears there is no need to specifically colour match. Is that correct?
@cvrpov

Alot of colours especially darker ones can be a close match and not necessarily a perfect match

@@cvrpov that's what it looked like. I'm going to use this method on a dark grey VW Golf as it has just been keyed all the way down one side. I will be attempting to obtain the correct colour though

I’d love to buy this and probably will but need a couple of questions. The car is an Audi Exclusive meaning it’s paint is a one off colour chosen by the first owner. I don’t know if the paint code even exists. Is there a way to match colour without the code? Also didn’t really understand the products. Are you applying the touch up paint by fingers then using compound or is it wax?
@cvrpov

Hi mate. Google and Ring Derby VW TPS and chose option 2 on the phone. Give them your car reg and they should be able to provide you with a paint code. If they can't then it might be a bit tricky. Martin

Does this only work on clear coat scratches or deeper scratches that have went into the paint or to bare metal?

works best on scratches that are just slightly too much to sand and polish

What about a half inch scratch thats gotten down to bare metal should primer be used to fill that first before moving on to paint?
@cvrpov

You could use primer but maybe try and build up the area with paint layers like i do in another video

How long do you let the paint dry before polishing? Does the paint need to be fully dry before polishing?

One question, do you wait for the paint to dry before hitting with the compound? Or do you compound while paint is still wet?

@cvr Thanks for your videos! I accidentally sanded a rock chip too much while trying to fix it. Now I have a penny sized hole down to the primer (white), surrounded by a 2 inch base coat area, surrounded by a 5 inch sanded clear-coat area. This is on my bonnet. What is the recommended course of action (can it be done with a touch-up pen of base-coat and another of clear)? Much appreciate your expert opinion.

ultimately needs a respray if the paint has been compromised.

Absolutely brilliant! When you say "perfected over the last decade", I hope that doesn't mean it took you ten years before you finally got it right? LOL When you say solvent paint, you simply mean modern paint, yes? In other words, I should be able to use my Tesla touch up paint to achieve the same results?

Is standard touch up paint that you buy from auto shops "solvent" based paint? There's no harder in the paint so how does it fill the chip and scratches permanent or this just a quick touch up to look good.

Multi stage paint is almost impossible to get right unless the basecoat is very close match to the overall colour. Ie not much pearl top coat

I note that you use a professional polisher more than the smaller 3 inch that comes in your kit. Does this give similar results? Also you are using polish or rubbing compound with both these buffing tools. Does this come with the kit or do you recommend something? Thanks

The rub and buff kit comes with its own mini polishing pad and backing plate with a drill spindle. Some clips in the video have my milwaukee polisher being used. Different pad and backing plate set up but the same results.
