Hello Mathew! I would love to have a speak with you about a book I'm writing and an aspect that takes influence from native papuan tribes and would love to have a natives view on it as I would preferably not turn to cultural appropriation. My discord is magnusson#1306 send me a message!

Thanks Stewart. I disagree that pigs were introduced though. If it was introduced, we wouldn't have words in it in our vernacular but rather some altered English version of it. But in Engan there's Mena, in Motu Boroma. Sheep on the other hand were introduced so you'd hear words like sipsip or mehmeh when locals refer to sheep. Addition: A very fair representation, thank you.

This lecture is by far one of the best I've watched. I am proud as a Papua New Guinean to have watched this very well articulated presentation, both culturally respectful and insightful. I would like to make a comment/correction on the Kaugli mudmen which you mentioned, the rightful owners of this partucular mudmen culture is the 'Komunive people' in the Asaro area, Eastern Highland Province. That legend that you shared belongs to them, although there are different versions of it. The mudmen from Komunive village are a famous tribe in Papua New Guinea that are iconic. However, the rest of the lecture was excellent and I applaud you for promoting our diverse cultures and biodiversity. We are indeed the last frontier. Please come back when the pandemic is over. There is more to discover. Tenkiu tru wantok.

Hi! I hope you read this message because I've been wondering this the longest time - how do tribal people get access to modern clothing? Do they just.. walk into the city sometimes to buy clothes? If so, do they use their own currency? If not, how do they get the currency that's used in the cities? Thank you

Irian Jaya is now called West Papua. The people in Port Moresby area are called Papuans and the people up in the Highlands and Bismarck Archipel area are New Guineans. Since Independence (1975) it's now called Papua New Guinea.

There is such an obvious genetic link to African tribes, with Asian mixed in, that it seems the center of that gene pool is closer to south India than it is to central Africa. I dont see how the "Out of Africa" evolutionary fairy tale can explain the distribution of family traits throughout the South Pacific and Australia. It looks like these tribes settled in east Africa after they settled in the south Pacific.

Hi! So I came to your chanel for your beetle video that you made about two years ago.. I found a ten lined June beetle, or rather it found me, and I want to keep it. Can you please give me some pointers? I searched a lot, and I know what they eat and how they live but I don't know what else is necessary for them.. Do I also put a lot of mold, a bark or sth in their home? Also, this video is amazing!

found this on google although it is mainly about larvae: In captivity, the grub stage of the ten-lined June beetle requires plenty of substrate and sandy soil. For food, distribute decaying bark and roots from oak, birch, chestnut or fir trees, which are indigenous to the ten-lined June beetle's natural environment.

@@scorchinggoat9589 Thank you! Unfortunately I couldn't keep him cause I couldn't find all the necessary info in time and I didn't want to risk his health, so I let him go. But I'll keep this information in mind for next time!

I enjoyed watching every second of this! One question though, how did the kaugli med men put pig teeth on their mud mask if there are no native pigs, is it a recent occurrence when pigs were introduced to the island?

They were terrified. There are elders in the village who have told us stories of WW2. Based on their account and the history class I took in my high school, the villages were traumatised by the sound of bombs. So this may be seen as one of the famous war relic sights in the world, but to our people, it reminded them of the terror. And this is part of our history that needs to be well documented. Thanks for pointing it out.

Wow what an effort to compile all that and to keep it so brief! I know you can spend hours on the island of New Britain and New Ireland alone speaking of the culture, the language, the food the people. Its incredible how diverse each little section of this very special part of the Pacific is, it would be nice to get more of your personal insights regarding. Cheers for the upload I really enjoyed it mate.
