I have had my Meindl`s that are similar to yours for about 35 years. Last year I had to replace the original Vibram soles with new ones. I am a retired lineman and used them for climbing until about 20 years ago. Now they just get used for hunting and various work situations. I also have a pair of the Meindl walking shoes which I`ve had a long time but don`t get used as much. Because I take care of stuff, the boots still look pretty darned good considering what they have been through. A few small cracks in the leather and that`s about it, even still have the original laces. Originally mine were hunting boots, not military.

I have the Karrimor SF CWW, the Iturri CWW and these. The Meindls are designed for general use whereas the Karrimors and the Iturris are designed for cold wet weather use. Both of them are heavier and more rigid than the Meindls but not ridiculously so. You also definitely need to go a size up in both of them, unlike the Meindls which fit to size. Of the three, I far prefer the Iturris; they are incredibly comfortable, amazingly solid and have carried me across the worst that Dartmoor has to offer during multi-day (up to a week) walks. I use the Meindls for day walks in Kent and Essex. They are great boots, but do not give me the same feeling of security that the others do. One thing I do really like about them is the very wide sole.

@@RedBranchBushcraft Yeah, it's the material in the midsole breaking down with time and the main reason the military sell them off.....It's not because they've got more boots than soldiers :) Army surplus is a bit of a lottery. I got a German pair once for 15 quid and they lasted 7 years..I got another pair that fell apart within minutes of putting them on. The midsoles crumbled on both pairs. I bought a pair of Meindl French army surplus which were listed as "new ,unused without tags" and a label inside revealed they'd been in storage for 10 years. I still have them after 3 years but I've lost count how many times I've had to glue the soles back on. There's guys on ebay right now selling super grade Meindls and they've all got 100% positive feedback...so you cloud be lucky.

Was looking online but the post is stupid money to here. Half the price of the boot I’m sure I’ll find cheaper

Came up with a workaround going with the sizing advice looking forward to trying them out €250 plus for the hiking civilian version so it’s definitely worth a try
