When you see a young lady produce such wonderful pieces of work it makes you wonder why we seem to need no end of tools and yet the majority of us do not reach the same standard. I wish there had been an English commentary to this video because the processes were interesting.
@IronMaidenGS4 жыл бұрын
it's a matter of culture... our occidental standards are quite low for everything, as long as a tool can get the job done its a good tool... but over there they improve to the maximum the design, and it's something they have been improving for decades and decades....

The black tracks through the wood is called spalting. It forms when the wood is kept damp for some time after it is milled. It actually is the beginning of decay. It is valued by wood turners. Hope this helps

I think it's very interesting that a lot of North American tools and methods use more outward force and planes and sawing. But the lathe here is spinning in the same direction yet the cut happens on the bottom. making a catch potentially much less catastrophic, and possibly safer. Thanks for sharing!
@keithklassen53205 жыл бұрын
This is how most North American lathes work, at least the ones I've seen.
@heyimamaker5 жыл бұрын
@@keithklassen5320 Every lathe I have used is as I described it. You resting the bevel of the tool on the top of the wood in order to make a cut. If you bring the tool to far down it will give you what's called a catch. Every metal lathe has you place the cutting tool on the centerline between the tool and the center of the work. This is the first lathe that I have seen where the tool cuts from the bottom.

@CypyCup at min 6:14 you can see how she is really close to the wood turning not wearing any protection, plus her long hair is not secured in a ponytail or using a nethair, long sleeves is a no no too when you work with lathes or any spinning tool, i use to work as a machinist and she is not following a lot of safety basic rules, i seen very experienced workers 20+ years having awful accidents losing fingers and stuff like that because they not follow this basic safety rules.
