Thank you so much. My newcomer class has come such a long way in speaking in class. The first time I introduced this game, only 3 wanted to play. Now the entire class wants to play. I will have to purchase extra sets of UNO cards so that 2 teams can play...ha ha! Their willingness to use the phrases made me so happy as you can imagine.

Nice activity. Our classes are larger than what you’ve described, but I think the game would work with small groups as well. It would also work similar to go fish, where the asking student is looking to take a card. Very helpful.

I am glad to hear that this is a game you can use. For your classes that are larger, consider breaking them into multiple groups so that each can play the game. There are so many variations to this game and I think it is a great follow up activity to review the concept and skill of the day.

What a great idea to implement in science and math to boost engagement and vocabulary! Perhaps you can have students match math problems to answers and that would make a pair.
@TheLanguageLady
@TheLanguageLady 4 жыл бұрын
This would definitely be fun to adapt for science and math. Perhaps adapt the cards to have them match a math problem with an answer instead of matching numbers and colors or vocabulary words with the definition.

For online student. How do you do it? Can you show it how. Who picks the card the UNO needs people to pick a group of numbers how can you give the cards if your online. if there is a way may you please show it.
@TheLanguageLady
@TheLanguageLady 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy! 👋 That's a great question! If you play with an online student, I would recommend that instead of using cards, you can play a game of charades and have students form sentences. The outcome would still be the same because the students are producing language. Let me know if you have any more questions. Where are you from?

@@TheLanguageLady Framingham State Uni has an international Cohort program in Korea.I'm creating my first set of Lesson plans based on a game activity. Can you suggest any standards associated with this type of activity?
@TheLanguageLady
@TheLanguageLady 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter! Sure, I think these standards would apply to this activity. BTW, I am honored that you would use my video for your masters project. Please feel free to share my video with your colleagues. Standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1.C Pose questions that connect the ideas of several speakers and respond to others' questions and comments with relevant evidence, observations, and ideas. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.7.1.D Acknowledge new information expressed by others and, when warranted, modify their own views. CC.1.5.8.E Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks. CC.1.5.6.G Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English when speaking based on Grade level and content I would also check WIDA standards and see if you can find any listening and speaking standards there. These were Common Core Standards. I hope this helps and all the best of luck in your program!!!
