NOTE: I'm aware that I can change the name to another Amazon preset but then I'd have to remember it and that's too complicated in my old age. And if the Kitchen one can hear me, I really don't need two! Plus the average consumer would have little idea how to do that or want to do it. Just one guy out of billion's thoughts!
Amazon Echo Dot:
Echo Dot is a hands-free, voice-controlled device that uses the same far-field voice recognition as Amazon Echo. Dot has a small built-in speaker-it can also connect to your speakers over Bluetooth or with the included audio cable. Dot connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and more-instantly.
Echo Dot can hear you from across the room, even while music is playing. When you want to use Echo Dot, just say the wake word "Alexa" and Dot responds instantly. If you have more than one Echo or Echo Dot, you can set a different wake word for each-you can pick "Amazon", "Alexa" or "Echo" as the wake word.

You can setup the name Echo or Amazon instead of using Alexa on both devices. This will avoid the confusion both starting at the same time. Just something you could try before finalizing the issue.

Having multiple voice controlled devices responding at the same time is one reason why I haven't starting messing with these type of device again, I'm hoping Amazon has an update to track which device is responding to commands and silence the others.

my brother and i have an Amazon echo dot on the same floor in our rooms...which is close. we will talk to alexa and the other echo picks it up sometimes.. we find it funny.. but i do love alexa turning my xbox one on. worst thing i hate about my alexa is this is very rare and shes done it 3 times..once while im awake but shes connected herself to the speaker in my light blub (which is above me..well level with my feet) and started playing the radio loudly at 3am(no commands).. it scared the crap out of me twice(different nights) and each time im like "Excuse me its sleep time, not party time".. i think if she does it again im borrowing Lamarr's knife... my brothers doesn't do it but mine does(and my mums)

LOL This is a funny problem I would think it would make more sense to get a speaker system set up so you could just get the sound from your original Alexa to transmit her voice around your house. Seems like you don't need multiple Alexa's because she can here you no matter what room you are in she must have a really good Microphone. So yea I think you should just set up speakers around your house so you can hear Alexa no matter where you are in your home. Problem solved.

Nice video! My dad had the same problem. But he changed the settings so that one would only hear "echo" and one would hear "Alexa" that way the wouldn't hear each other .

You can change the wake word to Echo on one and Alexa on the other. There's a setting in the app.

@2:00 Why would you name the devices differently? You are always talking to the same AI, which is Alexa. She doesn't have a split personality disorder. Multiple echos should somehow connect to each other. Btw awesome videos, subscribing!

I thought the dot was just a smaller cheaper version of the Echo that anyone can buy. I didn't know that you have to buy an Echo just so you can buy this. I was actually considering buying one since I have Amazon Prime. But i'm not going to buy the full version Echo just for the dot. My computer is always on so it's just a simple click to do anything that the Echo can do. Great video though.

+Lamarr Wilson , you do realize you can change the wake word on one or both, so one answers to Alexa and the other to either Amazon or Echo. That way you can talk to one without the one act'n a fool. Edit: I just caught your screen message the second time through. I keep a fan right next to my and Alexa can't hear me in the next room when it's going. Also, with it right next to me, I can be sure that the alarm will wake me up. Finally, I have Ect connected to my living room and bedroom lights. If I hear a noise in my living room, I can quietly tell Echo (Dot) to turn on the living room light without drawing the zombies to my exact location. Thanks for making your videos. You keep me entertained when the work day is getting me down.

Now with the new software push, the Echo has spacial awareness so that if you have more then one, only the closest one to you will respond when you speak. All echos are updated automatically to do this. And it's about time too. :-)
