I had a 12 yr old LG, excellent picture but I wanted a Smart TV, saw the Amazon 43" Fire TV on sale for $269.99. For the price, you can't beat it in my opinion. Had to buy one of those universal stands for $43 because the feet overshot my stand. I'm happy with this for now, will probably replace it at some time in the future with something better, but for now, I'm happy

Too weird. I have a 12 year old LG, and was considering buying the Fire TV just to have a smart TV until I got a better deal on something more expensive. Also, my alias is Tony Banks. Thinking I might just shell out the $1,800 now for the OLED C series, and save the $500.00 I would have spent on an intermediary TV.

You won’t be disappointed with the U7G; grabbed mine a few months ago thanks to Caleb’s video on it as at the time I was torn between it and it’s TCL competitor, and I’m glad to say that I love going with Hisense. I’m switching from a 42’ Roku powered Hisense and the level up is unreal and for me as a console gamer, my PS5 is loving the features with this thing!

As a family who is engrossed in the Amazon ecosystem this tv fits the bill. We have a 10 year old vizio that is moving to bedroom. Also constantly having the kids loose the remote and having this tv be hands free is plus for any stay at home mom.

@@Jupiter9999 Amazon prime itself sells warranties from different insurance companies. But they vary by price of item. Since the TV cost under 200, the warranty will only cover the amount paid for the TV. Which might not really be worth it.

It's not bad for the price. I got the 43" OMNI for my mom and it came down to the Pioneer, TCL, and Hisense. I took a chance and the picture is pretty good for the price range.

I just did extensive research on small TVs and monitors that weren't too expensive and you absolutely made the right choice with the omni. On paper, it's the best 43 inch TV you can get for under $450 ( it's even better than the Samsung au8000 which is a lot more expensive), but also what you don't read on paper is how much better direct lit TVs are better than edge lit. So even if another TV has a better native contrast ratio, if it's edge lit it will not look better in the real world than this Amazon Omni does. I compared my TCL 5 series to this, and despite that having better contrast on paper it looks much worse in reality because the TCL is edge lit and doesn't have local array dimming. If 2 TVs don't have LAD, direct lit wins over edge lit all day I just got the 43 myself for my kitchen and it only cost 3 hundo

They just discounted this down to $500 for a 65”. That’s a fair price for this, and probably better than most in the competitive set. $500 gets you a Hisense A6G (not U6G) of the same size or a Vizio V5. At least you get the benefit of a VA panel and better software than the Vizio. I’d take the Omni over those two. $600 for 65” might even be acceptable, but the $830 launch price was absurd.

@@YavNe This comment was from nearly a year ago, and prices have gone all over the place since then, but in sum, the Fire TV Omni was a VA panel (good), with no local dimming (bad), that could not get particularly bright (bad), ran a slow and complex Fire TV OS (Roku and Android are stabler and work better), and had a 60 Hz refresh rate with no HDMI 2.1 support. You could get a comparable feature set in the TCL 5 series, which has sold at around $500-$600 and adds the benefit of local dimming. A Sony X85K at least gets you a 120Hz screen, better brightness and native contrast, and sells around $800. The TVs that are much, much more expensive than this TV was at launch are largely much better TVs. Sony X90J, Hisense U8H aren't all that much more expensive than this and blows it out of the water. Hisense U7H is frequently cheaper than the Omni and would eat it for lunch.

Have to agree bought the 50 inch as a bedroom TV on pre-sale, set it up, watched it for 3 days then boxed it up and returned it. To me the worse was the upscaling ability. The picture was just too soft no matter how much I played with the settings. My primary TV is a Samsung TU8000 (so not a higher end OLED or QLED) and picture quality between the two was drastic.

Edit: I was wrong. The pioneer fire TV is better. It wasnt tested by rtings so i didnt know but upon seeing other reviews, and that its brightness is only a little below the fire omni, its definitely the better buy. What shocked me is how many more picture and sound settings the pioneer has. It also has dolby vision and dts x virtual surround. You'd think Amazon's own fire tv would be the best software wise but it isn't. Very weird but the settings are super limited Tbh it's pretty damn good now that the price is down. If you want one of the cheapest 4k TVs, this is actually rhe one to get. I compared all the others and used data from rtings and this not only is better on paper, but in person as well because it's direct lit instead of edge lit. It's in the same price range as the tcl 4 series, hisense a6g, etc. But it's easily the best picture quality under $300 (I got a 43 inch) It also looks a lot better than my tcl 5 series from 2018 One thing that helps it is that it is Direct Lit instead of edge lit When looking at cheaper TVs, you absolutely want direct lit instead of edge lit because even though my tcl has better native contrast ratio than this TV, when you actually look at them it's totally obvious that the Amazon omni has better contrast because it's direct lit. The edge lighting can really ruin contrast if the TV doesn't have local array dimming, and cheap TVs never do Also, the Amazon omni has the best brightness out of all the cheap TVs. Or at least out of ones with a VA panel, and trust me, you do not want a TV that is an IPS panel. IPS look absolutely terrible even with local array dimming. They only have around 1000:1 contrast ratio which is atrocious. Even 6000:1 can look bad if they aren't direct lit and don't have local array dimming so do not even think about getting an IPS TV Keep in mind at brick and mortar stores, the TVs demo footage is designed to hide the TVs weaknesses like contrast ratio, and the lights are bright in those places which also hides how bad they are at displaying dark colors

And if you trust TCL more than hisense you're wrong lol hisense was formerly known as sharp and they've been around forever. TCL has not and its a Chinese company. Most of these tvs are very reliable. It's the picture quality that separates them and the picture quality of the fire tv is literally bottom of the barrel. It's better than most of the low end TVs but it's still low end.

I'm a bit confused. You talk about the Hisense U7G which is currently priced on Amazon at $898.90 being only a little more money than the Omni, but the Omni on Amazon is priced at $599.00. The Hisense is 50% MORE than the Amazon unit. Sure it has true 120hz and full array local dimming but it doesn't have FireTv built in. Am I looking at the wrong models or has Amazon had a sudden price decrease ? Anyone ?

Me also. I was able to snag one during the lightning deal today and after taxes it was $116.59. At this price point I think it's safe to say it's well worth it. Anything else for that price would pale in comparison. It will be replacing a 50" 1080p 3D plasma Panasonic. One of the last and best plasma TV's ever made. Sad to see it go because honestly it still looks great and has held up so well. Some of the best colors and blacks on any TV I've owned. Even when compared to my main TV, a Sony 65" xr-65x90j. My only complaints about the plasma is it runs really warm like most plasmas and the UI is very dated and slow.

The built-in *hands-free* Alexa is better for elderly or disabled adults who have difficulty with technology and trouble physically pressing the remote button for other "built-in" Alexa products (like a Fire Stick or non-Omni Amazon TVs). Much more seamless and less problems for relatives troubleshooting from afar.

I'm still enjoying Roku as my go to streaming platform for how long though I don't know since KZbin and Prime Video are not supposed to be on it in the near future. That being said I'll avoid TV's like this. I have a 2016 65 inch Samsung 4K TV it still works great minus the OS being outdated (I got a Roku Ultra hooked up to it) and a little black dot on the upper left side of the screen it's an older model so maybe I shouldn't expect too much out of it but it still functions and Samsung's have always worked well for me so I'll keep it around until it has run its course. I looked up the price for repairing it and it's honestly not worth fixing for $600 especially with TV's constantly changing every year. I think once 8K hits the market and my TV in my living room craps out only then will I upgrade it for now though I am good with what I got.

I really like the convenience of Fire TV built in. Not having to switch inputs and remotes. I have a current one based on Insignia and it's decent enough for bedroom use, this might be a decent upgrade. Support for Echo Studio as.an audio device is an attraction for sure.

I will make a comment. On Amazon my name may be known..but I'm not affiliated or took money from third partys.. So.. I owned a Hisense 50 inch..A couple weeks ago I got a black circle dead center of the screen.. Small.. The TV was Beautiful 100% Hisense buy one no argument there just a glitch.. .. Long story short I looked at reviews and decided to buy the 50 inch Omni Amazon ..Truth and respect for you mentioning it .. I did not know this was Amazons first TV.. Swear to god.. So I was surprised.. When you said that...Respect. The Hisense and every other TV I owned had the same picture grain whatever. The Amazon Omni.. It's different... It's like taking TV life and putting you right there with them.. A long time ago there was RCA,,Sylvania, GE, Sony, There was one TV that looked different.. That one was Zenith..That picture was different from all the rest... Zenith operated on a hot ground.. Technician stuff.. Very hard to trouble shoot without a schematic..Every technician I knew just replaced the boards and boy that was expensive... . When somebody makes a difference completely against every TV . This Omni TV.. is no joke.. It's different.. If your different.. Give it a try.. Hisense great TV.. Amazon Omni a breath of fresh air from traditional tv..

Thanks for the honest review and I would agree completely if these TV's are at regular price. Sometimes they go on for a decent discount which makes them a more compelling option and I like that they have 4 HDMI inputs including one eARC and also a headphone jack. Disappointed at the lack of a composite input for legacy devices however. Will be interested to see how their 2022 models end up being. For streaming, I love my Fire TV Stick 4K that I got for Christmas, but I still keep my old Roku first generation Express+ hanging around in the spare room. It's decent too but the interface is dated and the device is sluggish when navigating around.

I'm looking for an alexa tv that can be used by voice 100%. My mom is 93 years old and, when I'm not at home, she is not able to use our Samsung smar tv. We have an alexa echo, but it can only play music or turn off the tv. We need a tv where she, only with her voice can turn on youtobe in the tv and can whatch her favorite videos hand free. I'm not interested in a super image quality or in games, only in the easier smart tv for a senior. Is this that tv?

So we no longer tell how many Dimmable Zones a TV has anymore!!! That is still important to me , and I wished TV manufacturers would make that info readily available to customers from the get go (like on the box). Thanks Caleb. I'm so tired of getting shitty TVs. Just bought a TCL 6 Series and the top right of the screen has messed up lighting and color. It makes Reds turn Pink, it's way brighter, there's banding. "It's own brand of TV" Funny because when I bought a 55" omni series the audio wouldn't sync, customer service said it wasn't their brand and had to get it replaced by OMNI TV. Omni TV is a Canadian broadcasting company. Has nothing to do with manufacturing TV's. The OMNI is only the name Amazon gave this model TV. Did you catch that? If my IBM ThinkPad broke and they told me, "Sorry it's not our computer, you have to contact the THINKPAD company." It's only when I wrote a review documenting how Kafkaesque and stupid Amazon was that they offered to replace it.

I have no idea what my Toshiba Fire Tv i got 3 years ago on Black Friday is compared to it. But since its just a flop down and watch TV, not my main movie TV, Ive been extremely happy with it. Picture quality to me looks great. Side by side to a better tv, I assume I could see the difference. For the price point of a 50" and the deal I got, is why I got it. This would be a tv for a random kids room, an older gentleman or women just to watch their shows. Just does a job and moves on

I was using Xfinity‘s Flex TV, I think they have the better remote than anyone else. I got rid of Xfinity Wi-Fi service and had to give that back. Then I got l the Amazon fire stick and it’s been pretty good. But that Flex TV remote…! A-1!

Favorite TV OS? Windows. I have different TV's with native OS's so to keep everything uniform I hook up one of my old Windows PCs up to the TV and skip the TV OS completely. Same would apply to using my Mac Mini M1, or Linux OS, if I wanted to. It's a LOT more capable.

My Google Chromecast Tv Dongle is great. It makes my dumb TVs somewhat smart. I like what I have seen of the OS.

Lol these went on clearance at Best Buy and sold out extremely fast. Got a 65in for 430$ . Def would say it’s worth it at that price.

So i went to rtings to see the best budget tv (43 inch) for dark rooms as i currently put my tcl 4 series 55 inch tv in my bedroom but it’s WAY to big and keeps me up at night when watching it due to so much light from the large size even after some setting adjustments. They recommended this tv in the 43 inch for best budget tvs for dark rooms. I went ahead and bought it so we will see. I just needed a smart tv with a smooth OS that has a decent dark room picture. :) EDIT: They also just updated the software therefore you can now edit white balance

Bought the 55” Omni Amazon tv and while it is decent, I feel it falls behind in brightness and some coloring. Just never gets as vivid as my old 2015 5 series Samsung tv. This Amazon tv no matter how much I adjust it just can’t get as bright as other TVs. Almost as if it’s like on a hidden eco mode that you can’t adjust. Very annoying when it’s very bright in a room or just average light coming into the room, it is too dark to enjoy the picture…. Like when you try watching Amazon prime videos on a phone… it just doesn’t go as bright but this happens on every app I’ve tried. It’s been 1 day with this tv and am Thinking of returning to go grab another Samsung. Also it seems to lose Picture quality as soon as you step left or right if dead center and especially when you view at an angle…

Im in the same boat. Did you end up taking it back? Im thinking about doing the same. For some reason, 2 BB employees don't recommend a Samsung at all, so idk why, Might go and get the Hisense or TCL.

@@jordanstinson2505 I never did return it. It’s been a couple weeks of use… still find the picture and Firetv system to be not in the same league as my Samsung and Roku device. Never heard anything bad about Samsung from any Bestbuy employee, I think the only reason I kept the Amazon is because it works with our Echo devices and you can control mostly everything on the TVs by voice with Alexa. Makes it nice when your busy with your hands or can’t find the remote, you can turn it in and off, change shows for kids, adjust volume and more. I still have my old Samsung in another room, and still run back n forth comparing them. Definitely huge difference in day time brightness. I would assume the 2020 series 7 Samsung is improved upon bs the 2015 model I have

@@MXvsATV144 well, yeah that’s a good idea then. I just got this tv for my bedroom. I got a LG CX 65” for my living room. I like the apps, and how it’s setup. I just wish it was a little brighter, only really negative complaint about it

I'm not big on TVs that have branded services built-in. Last year we bought a 55" TCL 6 series roku TV, and a 75" vizio with Google Built-in both have been disappointing. What we've done is locked them into hdmi 1, and plugged in a google chromecast which is a much better experience for us. I did not like getting the ads on the roku tv and the vizio did not have a HBO app available. Plus being able to have the same experience on all our TVs was worth the $200 (4x chromcasts). Lastly, I'm not a fan of Amazon.

I had high hopes for this TV. If the price was a bit less and it did 120Hz for gaming, I could deal with the lower brightness and inaccurate colors.

Why would you have a pc capable of 120hz at 4k yet choose to buy this TV? I dont think there is a situation I would choose 120hz 1080p over 4k 60hz at standard viewing distance unless you were playing competitively in which case you would not be using a TV.

Caleb are these TVs a waste of time being that there are so many other well known TVs out there with much more to offer and are not that much more expensive. For example TCL and Hisense and some Vizio models seem like better choices to me. Just my opinion and thoughts

the 65 wound up being about 600 and I thought that was a pretty nice price drop myself for the holiday deals. it was 230 bucks off. I think I can handle a few under perfect specs for 230 bucks off. That's me though.
