Amazon was also copying independent seller's products. A seller would create a new thing and if it became popular Amazon would copy it and promote their version instead, driving the small seller out of business in the process. There are sellers suing Amazon right now because of this.

this is like when the pandemic first started and Amazon said they were canceling 2 days shipping for all products except essential needs products, but then they were still offering 2 day shipping on every Amazon Basics products that wasn't considered an essential product. People saw they could get that Amazon Basics mouse in 2 days but would have to wait 2 weeks to get the logitech mouse so people would go with the Amazon Basics product.

Amazon has launched a lot of house brands in the last couple years. Like 2 or 3 in many categories. I think this is what they may be pivoting to, cutting Amazon Basics down to truly basics products and then putting everything else into these different brands. It makes the issue less obvious (especially since "Amazon" isn't in the name) and also allows them to branch out beyond just making "basic" versions of products, and instead also make premium items.
@SaintCyrX

None of that is different from house brands in traditional retailers like Walmart.... Walmart knows the sales of competing name brands, Walmart can put up signage or organize a planogram to push their house brand, etc. The data and ability to push a house brand isn't the problem.

Actually, a lot of store-brand grocery items are made by name-brand companies. I used to work for a dairy company, and the location I worked at made sour cream and cottage cheese. We would make and package our own name-brand products, but we would also do the same for Aldi, Sam's Choice, Weis, and others.

One thing for Amazon to market themselves on their own website. It's another to completely hide other options for the same product. If Amazon allows other companies to market their products, then it should be an level playing field. Allow the consumers to decide what's "best"

10:04 I really agree ,Amazon just takes products other sellers create and then make semi identical products, slap a label on em, say its on sale, advertise their stuff as the third result. its not healthy for ecommerse, and mabye a product from a company is a game changer and saves lives or help people in their day to day activities and then amazon puts the original product on a different page and put there version first to take the credit.

One of the things you did not mention that Amazon does is the price gouging. An item will cost significantly more for a non prime member than it does for the prime member for the exact same item from the exact same seller. In the past year I have noticed that when I purchased an item through Prime, it would arrive next day or possibly second day. Then it became a week. But ordering the same item without Prime membership it takes a week.....so basically what Amazon has started doing is charging for Prime, taking all the time they want to deliver, but if you cancel Prime you will have to pay a lot more for the item. Printer resin is a great example. I purchase it at around $23 a bottle under Prime, but when I chose to cancel Prime because I wasn't seeing any benefit to keep paying for it, that same bottle went up to $37 a bottle. That is a huge difference. And as soon as I went back to Prime, it was suddenly back to $23 a bottle. I think that is a bit more underhanded than just pushing these Amazon Basics items tbh.

To me the marketing isn't aggressive that much. And using data is competition. While working at walmart we were discouraged from used displays that weren't walmart brand if there was a walmart brand available. I personally don't see this as a serious problem.

It's not about getting in trouble for Amazon it's about losing money as it always is. I mean they've had issues with these basic products they sell having significant issues like batteries spontaneously erupting into fire or other various issues with small appliances and stuff. They clearly don't care about stuff like that they do care about it making the money. And clearly they're just not making enough to go through the trouble.

Honestly I think Amazon is well within their rights to market their own products more than other ones. It’s their website and they can do what they want with it. If sellers don’t like it they don’t have to sell there. Amazon took the time to build up their customer base so I don’t see why they shouldn’t be able reap the benefits.

I know several people that sold things on Amazon and at the time, Amazon didn't sell anything similar. After some time, suddenly the exact same product or similar was being sold by Amazon as a Basics item. Basically they were using these sellers as market research to know what was actually selling and the undercut them later, putting them out of business. It was pretty sleezy on their part since they had access to the sales data of someone else and used it against them.

amazon reviews have gotten hard to trust. seems like nearly every time i look at reviews now there are a lot of products that will have reviews for a completely different listing, sometimes in a different language. like if you're shopping for a phone charger and you find one with a lot of good reviews but when you actually read them, they're all about some random jacket. rather just go to a physical retailer where i can actually see what im buying.
@godswordevangelism
@godswordevangelism 2 жыл бұрын
That's the 3rd party products. 3rd party sellers will have multiple products and just put them all on the same listing as though they're a different color or size of the same product. So then all the reviews get lumped in together and you'll have reviews of several different products which causes the rating to be skewed.

I can understand other companies needing to make a profit. But if Amazon is making something that's lower priced 9 out of 10 times I will go with that product because it's cheaper if the companies would lower the price of paper towels alittle or diapers or anything like that even phone chargers too, a non Amazon phone charger cord alone is $15 I can get 3 cords for $10

i use amazon to shop all the time but i wouldn't piss on an amazon product if it was on fire. just like if I go to the highstreet to shop, I know what I want and thats what I buy.

I will admit amazon basics are usually a cheaper set bet....likely not worth the legal costs but also a lot of folks now dont have jobs :(

I've saved a lot on these products, and I've had little issues myself. Damn good in house brand quality wise.

@@claycassin8437 I didn't miss it. Don't know why I can't share my personal experience with the brand. Considering quality was a talking points in the video. I hope you feel superior now tho 🤣

I was about to panic when I saw the title of this video thinking that I was going to become unemployed 🤣 Not sure if Jeff Bezos was who made this decision, but he is no longer the CEO of Amazon, he is still involved in the board being the largest stake holder, but last year he he placed Andy Jassy as the current President and CEO of Amazon

I do not care if they kill Amazon Basics, everything I have ever gotten from them has been kind of terrible, worse then the average generic Chinese brands or exactly the same as the Chinese brands with a bit of a price increase and their name slapped on it. Most amazon basics things are functional at first, but do not last any length of time. Their cables have the worst durability that I have ever encountered, out of the 10 cables I have bought over the last 5 years 8 have died. Most other things just seem worse quality then similar priced items from other brands. Really the only thing that I consider acceptable from amazon basics are their batteries.
