Thanks for checking out my Scribe review, I also tested the cheapest most basic Kindle a couple of weeks ago, so have a squint of that for a more affordable option! And I definitely recommend the Boox Android eReaders as an alternative

Bought the new scribe and after 5 minutes packed it up again and returned. Like you say, absolutely no upgrade (apart from the pencil rubber bit!) to the original Scribe.

If anything, the screen resolution is WORSE in the new Kindle Scribe! Amazon definitely got this wrong. It’s almost as if there is a matte film over the screen that makes it more pixelated! Terrible decision to make the writing more refine over screen resolution.

Nice review! Amazon just hasn't been impressing me lately. The Scribe should have a color display. And they should've released a Paperwhite-sized one. I chose a Kobo Libra Colour over the Scribe or the Colorsoft, because it's a more manageable size for me, and it lets you write, aside from having color. Add that to the QC issues they've been having, and it's not good.

and....and.. now I get adverts when watching prime video, which I pay for already. how greedy does one of the biggest companies in the world have to get to be before we say enough! Been an amazon boy since 2002 and now it's the last straw. Just sick of the milking the customer.

Yes, but you have to download them on a different device and then upload them through send to kindle

Thanks. How is the zoom function? Is it feasible when reading scientific journals or is it laggy? How does it handle pdf reading in general?

I have the original Sribe which I really like for reading only. I don't care for notetaking on it but the huge display makes a great differnce when your eyesight is not as young as it used to be. However, one thing I HATE about Scirbe is the case / cover situation. Where I live (Poland) Amazon doesn't even sell their own covers and they cost ca. 80-90 EUR in Europe anyway. On the other end of spectrum you can get those cheap covers for 10-20 EUR which are functional but rather ugly. There are no solid offers in-between from reputable makers :(

Google says that the new Kindle Scribe has slightly faster page turns, has better contrast and can have a brigher light on the screen. Yes, I think that you are right. It is not worth upgrading from the 2022 version. I won't be upgrading. If I do upgrade it will be to the Ratta Supernote A5X2 with a crystal clear back to it (the crystal clear back (when it comes out) will make it more durable than the other version). It costs more but it has more and much better features for note taking (you can even hyperlink your notes from one note to another or within the same note). You can also open up the back and change the battery when it runs out, you can also change the processor board (replace it if it brakes or upgrade it when upgrades are available) and you can add up to 2 TB of micro SD memory to the memory card slot. Supernote care about their customers in a way that nobody else does. They even show you online what software upgrades they are working on.

It's hugely disappointing really. I got it because my 2022 version packed in a week or so before, and as there wasn't much difference in the price, I got the latest version. I'm not a huge fan of the white bezel (I find it a bit more glaring/distracting when I'm reading). As for everything else, it's just software updates that the 2022 version is getting - it's already rolled out to some devices or people can manually update it. And the AI thing is absent for us in the UK anyway. I feel pretty miffed about this, as it's a flagship device and I think loyal Kindlers should be able to expect more from the latest version of a device. Roll on the day they waterproof it and make it in colour!

As you say, sadly, the AI Features (Handwriting improving & Summarization) are not available in Canada, Australia, and the U.K., i.e. outside the U.S.A. Very discouraging and a slap in the face for someone like me who has touted the Kindle Scribe from day one. In my opinion, no one should support this company unless/until this outrageous omission is corrected.

I'm in the US and there's no AI feature and no active canvas. If you read on Kindle it does say a lot of the features are coming early 2025 so maybe a lot of people on KZbin are just using a review version of the Kindle that has active canvas and stuff

However, I do not have the "AI" features (Handwriting improving & Summarization) as indicated above. I don't understand why amazon cannot just make things crystal clear regarding what is going on and why. Doesn't matter how many people cry out in unison - or brandish swords and spears - not a word from the non-responsive clowns that support this device.🥲
