I’ve looked for a specific name brand item and got directed to a knockoff

This is spot on. Amazon is a dangerous place to shop. There are too many unregulated, untested products with attractive prices. We've known about the gamble of using Amazon and Harbor Freight fuses and electrical consumables for years. Now, it's a total ish show of copied products that are cheaper, but no one is accountable if that product is junk or is dangerous.

The only way to tell the Millwakee batteries are fake is the take them apart. OTC pullers are being knocked off. All parts for phones, RVs, cars... all junk. Ebay is having major issues now too.

Amazon has some small engine rocker arms that are knock off Gage brand for 1/2 the price. They are surely junk but if you weren’t paying attention, it looks like a great price for the real thing.

I've bought a Milwaukee 3/8 cordless ratchet. Along with the battery and charger separately. All off the amazon site. Since the vendor wasn't authorized they couldn't warranty it. So if it brakes on me I have to go through the manufacturer. As for hand tools like Capri, Tekton, Gearwrench. As long as it is from the vendor. Amazon will honor the hand tool warranty. This was a few years ago. Don't know now. Best to go through the manufacturer themselves.

I love Astro and always lean heavy on their stuff but when they sell a tool to Matco, they back off on their own retail version and it goes away not to kill the market for their customers. RBRT on the other hand, as soon as the Grip Edge excuse propaganda began, the writing was on the wall for Mac. Every other truck on the road offers the same tools at a lower price.

I would mention the Lang rethreading kit that all the trucks rebrand and sell for twice as much. I bought mine and my son's direct from Lang. It's the same exact kit and I think it's smoke and mirrors and borderline dishonest to sell it at 100% markup, albeit rebranded. Also, I refuse to buy off Amazon unless I absolutely can't fine an alternative. Mainly because I detest the idea of enriching Bezos.
@VorsprungDurchNik2 ай бұрын
I have no problem with Grip Edge making private label tools for any of the tool trucks. Obviously the more exposure their tools get the better their sales are, and not everyone has a Mac truck in their area (or a Matco, or a Cornwell, etc.). And it's not like the pricing is obscenely skewed, either - I bought the Matco "OptiTorq" version of the Grip Edge extractors because my Matco dealer had them cheaper than Amazon or JDTCo. I bought the Mac RBRT hex sockets when they were still exclusive to Mac, but looking at the receipt I paid almost exactly the same as what the Grip Edge sets sell for online. Same tools with different name brands isn't a new thing, and its not like the Matco guy is talking down the Mac product because he knows they're exactly the same, and so do most of the guys buying them. No big deal there.

Yeah, I certainly don't like the marketing tactics they're doing with the tool industry. They're essentially taking the most shortcuts they can to make the most money they can. It makes sense to them, but not to us as consumers that know better to not buy into their weasel wording. People should stop buying into these corporation tactics and the people should spend their money elsewhere where it can be well spent for an actually good product with no B.S. All this is also bundled with the political side of economics, it really needs to change for the better. The American people are tired of spending twice if not triple the price or more of groceries, gas, and pretty much everything.

Lisle always has a bunch of copy cats on Amazon. Their hub breaker is another one littered with exact copies. The other thing you have to be careful of, and you touched on it a bit, is the Amazon vine reviews. They’re no different than the KZbinrs pushing Milwaukee down your throat. If you’re getting free anything for your thoughts on it, you will not be unbiased. I was looking at the Gearwrench 3/4 impact socket set and every single review was an Amazon vine.
