Mine is either! I’ve got a PS if I wanna Game. I do have a Extra older PS controller paired to my FireStick just to use when I can’t find my damn remote and am laying in bed just putting it on something to watch at night before going to sleep And dnt wanna get my lazy @$$ out the bed to look on the floor or wherever it manages to end up sometimes. So A PS or Xbox controller do work well for just using it as a remote, But for im not gaming on a FireStick , lol. I still have the original 4K sticks. I haven’t updated to the new version of 4K. But for $25 bucks I’m goin to go ahead and grab one.

You have nothing to worry about there. The new 4K firestick will work as is through 2027.

Bad news: I just got an update on my 2nd generation 4k Max and the game 🎮 icon, and the settings/profiles icon are both on my home screen..😢😢😢. The funny thing is I didn't get any useful options like deep sleep, offload, cookies manger and such. And to make matters worse, Amazon re-set all my privacy/preferences to factory default ...🤬🤬😁😁😁 I am in Texas, btw..

This is great news. The thing that upset me most about putting the profile icon in the settings screen was that it was a kick in the teeth to the developer who produced that excellent simple, monochrome icon array for the settings panel. A work of art, ruined by having a jokey colo(u)r icon dumped in the middle of it.

my 4K stick quit altogether over the summer.....funny thing is that my Roku Ultra quit too......neither of my large tv's would recognize either one....funny that about the same time I downloaded the Roku channel app to my Samsung tv......I've often wondered if an update had killed them. Since I seldom used either one of them I didn't bother to search to see if indeed that's what happened. I haven't replaced either one due to the fact that they basically have little value if ones tv is actually a smart tv. They are valuable to the owners of tv's that won't allow additional apps to be downloaded but while some exist they are not common. Sony produced a 75 in tv a couple of years ago advertising it to be a smart tv but I quickly found out that it would not allow apps to be added. I gave it to my daughter along with a new Firestick and she's quite happy using it. I immediately bought the Samsung....

I game on them, but through emulators. I don't really switch profiles, so I never noticed the initial change, or the correction. One big update with FireOS8 that I haven't seen mentioned is the option to output "no signal" in sleep mode, so your TV will automatically turn off. The new 2nd gen 4K Max is the first stick that has that feature. I know some of the Cubes have been able to do it for years. I never understood why this wasn't a basic feature from the beginning, but it's going to save me some electricity.

Fyi, ...just got an update on my MAX OS8. All it did was add the useless profile icon to the settings menu. Nothing good like offload, sharing from Apps or deep sleep. Well, at least I didn't get that stupid game icon on my home screen 😁😁...

Android is a Linux based OS .... so apart from Amazon throttling the stick a bit more not a lot of change. App developers will change their code a wee bit and its good to go. So Amazon are making this change for another reason.

Just checked and I still have the old layout !!!, does it bother me ???, never really paid attention to it, as I don’t game period, what would bother me !!!, would be the new system they intend to bring out, limiting what you can do with the fire stick.

I don’t like the interface with the Game controller and the extra profile in the settings. It’s still on my 1st 4K version. I hope they will get rid of it. I’m going to Go ahead and Grab either the new 4K or maybe the 4K Max. I dnt have a newer router with the WiFi 6e and all, So even though I know it will work on my older router/modem combo I’m debating if I should get the Max now or wait to I get a newer better Router. Hate the changed interface they added though!

No, they never upgrade their Firesticks from 5 to 6, 6 to 7, 7 to 8, etc. The version you have will stay, but sometimes they do incorporate some features across the board.

I have a question on the fire stick I should be using. I have a tv that isn’t a smart tv or has Bluetooth capability, it is a HDMI and is using a fire stick lite in order to stream. I also have Dish network which I am able to watch tv using the dish anywhere app on this tv, however There is a lot of buffering when I try to watch the local channels using the dish anywhere app. Is there a fire stick that will help eliminate the buffering issue I have with using the fire stick lite?

The Lite is very possibly your issue. It's pretty much junk. I think the new 4K max is on sale right and should work great assuming your Internet speed is good. Check the description of this video for the new Fire TV Stick 4K max link.
