The stunning Ludwigia palustris is found all over the world growing in a wide range of aquatic habitats both in its emersed and submersed forms. There is some confusion over its close relative Ludwigia repens but palustris has smaller leaves and is sometimes called Ludwigia palustris ‘Super Red’. In nature the plant is usually found under direct sunlight with a nutrient-rich substrate. It is rare to find in the wild in Europe and more commonly seen in the American and African continents. It was not endemic Australasia but has been since introduced. It was original described by Stephen Elliot, the American botanist and educator in 1817. I couldn't remember what I plant I bought, but this was it. Love the contrast it gives with my green plants. I was having elevated nitrate issues, despite bi weekly water changes. Determined it was due to low phosphates.. once I added phosphate, this think took off, and pulled my nitrates down 40ppm in a week, and grew 3-4 inches, no CO2. (duck weed also helped)

Pretty sure palustris can be passed off as a pond plant too, since they can be found in areas with cold winters.

Any tips on taking care of the emersed Ludwigia palustris. I just tie it on the wabi-kusa mat. How about the ferts, should i add nitrogen ferts as well?

Hi. I'm sorry for sounding ignorant but is Ludwigia Palustris the same as Ludwigia Repens Rubin? Thank you.
@TropicaAquariumPlants Жыл бұрын
Hi, don't worry about it, it's a fair question. The repens 'Rubin' is slightly bigger; you can read more about the palustris here tropica.com/en/plants/plantdetails/Ludwigiapalustris'SuperRed'(035B)/4453

@@GeorgeFarmerStudios I may be wrong but it is possible the OP had not heard the term before. They may have heard of Australia as a continent, but not Australasia as a descriptor for a region.

Not really. Its a prolific water column feeder. Grows very good in inert substrate. This is also why it responds well to replanting cuttings. Just make sure to have plenty of fertilizer in the water column.
