And killing off the experiences of meaningful interactions with fellow human beings - friendly, neighborly chit-chat, meeting new people, sharing a good word, etc. It’s about de-humanizing and devaluing the human experience, down to people being treated like “herd” animals channeled through gates, etc. No thanks. A bizillion glitches will happen with such checking-out - just as they so constantly happen with even the self-checkouts that are popular today. A human being needs to walk around, to try to keep up with all of the problems. It will probably be the same with this.

Trader Joe’s vows to never automate their stores. They say they value their employees too much to do it. They also provide benefits to all employees, including part-time employees. They also contribute to employee’s IRA’s even if the employee doesn’t contribute. I think there are some criteria that needs to be met first though. I know which store I’d rather support.

I love Trader Joe’s! If they required their employees to get the vexings though (even due to the criminal “mandates”, for all companies with over 100 employees to require them - and if they did not make a way for the employees to recoup their jobs, IRAs, etc., after the “emergency” was over with), that would be bad, bad, bad of them.

Companies are tired of hearing about minimum wage. A cashier SHOULDN'T be earning $25 an hour, regardless of cost of living and inflation. I had a cashier job as a teenager and all the way through college. I didn't stay a cashier and went on to better things. It was NEVER my career. I originally thought this with the self-checkouts at walmart, but I remember the cashiers acting like they hated their jobs and didn't want to speak and didn't want to be there. Walmart also had terrible pay. But, now the self-checkouts make it all fast to get in and out. They also now pay $15 an hour starting and my partner works there and it has greatly improved as a company since the days when I worked there. When I worked for Walmart, I made $5.15 an hour. Partner works for Walmart, he makes $15 an hour. Less people, less conflicts with co-workers and trips to HR. More money. I don't think it's all a bad thing. We socialize with people who WANT to socialize. Slave jobs need to go by the way side. We can get to know each other some other way like in a meet up group or at a restaurant. The passive-aggressive slamming around of a cashier who never wanted to be in that job won't be missed!

Then when you get to the checkout you just scan the app, pay and go. Well thats how it is supposed to work....... So I gave it a go .... and what a horrible experience it was. When I got to the dedicated Scan & Go checkout terminal it required me to wait for a checkout operator to come and check my bags and randomly scan a few items. Whaaat!! Aaargh!! I was so annoyed. In my experience at least with the just walk out location near me (Fresh Grocery). It knows. I go in with 2 of my kids. They do pick up things, ask and put them back, others they add to my basket. It actually is impressively accurate. The 1st 2 times after it opened it did make a few mistakes in my favor. Since then even with the kids it has been spot on every time. Funny last week, I thought there was a mistake, and asked if we did actually get this. My younger daughter said yes and showed it to me. So it did catch the items my kids grabbed and kept as well.

This is part of ushering us into the Chinese Social Credit System. They will track all of your buying habits, and eventually, like in China, it will effect your credit standing in your community. They also collect biometric data, which is a huge multi-billion dollar industry and many major corporations, big pharma, major banks, etc are in a race to collect as much as they can. If your regular data is hacked/stolen like a credit card, it's nowhere nearly as dangerous if your biometric data is hacked & stolen. You cannot call anyone to reset your palm/finger prints, your facial features, your pupils, etc. Amazon fresh has the same business model with no cashiers, except they use your palm print and facial recognition. Don't fall for this trick to collect your unique biometric data. Your prints may conveniently show up at a crime scene one day at a place you have never been...then what? If you support Amazon, kiss all your other grocery stores goodbye, and the countless jobs lost. I'd rather support my local Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Ralph's, Vons and Stater Brothers, as well as their employees to keep their jobs. Don't do it. It's sinister what they're sneaking in, in the guise of convenience.

The part where you mention the weight is not at all true, its based on the weight of what is currently on the sensor, what it senses that was removed is simple math to how much you took. Self checkouts do a similar method for sensing each scanned item then placed on bagging area, they dont always go based on actual weight. Hence why the fruit was priced by each or by groups of bananas of 6, or flat price for the salad bar.

I personally think it's silly for every fruit/veg category to be the same weight. Why not just have small scales throughout the produce section where you can quickly weigh each item and have it charged to your account by weight. Same with the food boxes. It can't be THAT expensive compared to giving away lots of food because it's not a precise weight...🤔🤷🏾‍♀
