Love the shirt! I played the Continental Club on Congress Ave in 1968 when I was a freshman at UT.

Good review of those picks. I have the Crosspoint 59, excellent pickups, sounding very authentic "old era" sound. What I like with those ambers, is that there are thousands of sweet spots, you can find several settings, that will all sound great, and they will sound great in all aplications. This is very rare for a guitar pickup.
@mattthrun-nowicki86413 жыл бұрын
They’re wonderful pickups. I admit that I might try throwing in a degaussed A5 or an A2 magnet, as I tend to prefer these to A4, but other than that, they’re splendid

I got a set of these in my Maybach and they sound rather good, they certainly nail a vintage sound. However took me lots and lots of tries to set the pickup heights and pole pieces to sound "right" and somewhat balanced volume wise between neck/bridge. I wish I could raise the neck pickup higher, but it totally overpowers the bridge. Still sounds great lowered down though.

Those are super bright. I wonder how they would sound in my 335

How do they cope with a little more gain? I’m thinking about replacing my Gibson 490/498 pickups in my Les Paul but I also like to play a little harder…what would you say?
@beljakovincАй бұрын
I have Spirits59 in my Les Paul Custom 72. I replaced BB2 and 3. Those pickups are bright,dynamic and I pair them with my Bogner XTC quite nicely. With higher gain you need to be a little careful not to set amp too bright or they can sound a little thin,but in the band context you will get heard a lot. I would definitely buy them once more if this were stolen. Did I mention that they are very dynamic 😆

@@Max_Kleiber I have spirits since 2011 and we were talking over email a lot with Wolfgang, here is his description: These aged magnets make the sound even more transparent and crispy and the attack is even faster than on any other pickup. However, the output level is slightly lower compared to the other humbuckers. The neck pickup is bluesy (similar to the Classic Rock) but has a deeper voicing; the bridge pickup comes with smooth hights and a great dynamic response - especially nice when volume and gain of the amp are up a little.
@beljakovincАй бұрын
@@Max_Kleiber I hope he won’t get mad if I paste his descriptions: The 59 CrossPoint is a unique combination of the Classic series with a nice moderate neck pickup equipped with AlNiCo II (not as clear as Classic Standard and not as crunchy as Classic Rock). The bridge pickup of the 59 CrossPoint is moderately overwound and equipped with an AlNiCo V magnet. This combination makes it a powerful pickup but still with P.A.F. characteristics. As I said,we were emailing a lot about what I expected of pickups and they are as I wanted to be and totally as he describes them.

Great playing and you are doing a favour for all of us, as these are expensive. How would you fair Spirit of 59 to Fralin pure paf. And Tyson tone P&G
@mattthrun-nowicki86412 жыл бұрын
Again, never tried the standard Fralins, just the Fralin-RS Tru 60’s and Psychebillies. I would say they’re all comparable. These Ambers are a little brighter, the Fralins are a little more compressed, and the P&G are drier/woodier sounding

How would you compare those to the Mojo Pickups UK?
@mattthrun-nowicki86417 ай бұрын
I think the Mojo’s sound closer to vintage PAF’s
@baroqueguitarist56732 жыл бұрын
Out of all the modern paf replicas you have tried so to speak... do you have a clear favorite? Or a few top ones ? Maybe dividing your answer in two categories? Best overall sounding paf you’ve tried so far in your opinion? Then also the closest in sound to original vintage PAFs in your opinion ? Because sometimes the most faithful to real PAFs might not be the best sounding you have played . Doyle coils for instance claim to use the original PAF recipe but try as well to make the best sounding pickup possible as there goal. Not just faithfully copy original PAFs down to every detail like maybe Wizz pickups might attempt to do. I saw you personally comment under one of your videos Doyle coil were not your favorites. Your one of the few you tubers that has tried a lot of the best PAFs on the market. Your opinion would be of great value to me since they are all so expensive. Love the video playing and content. Curious if you have tried cream t pickups as well. All the best

Mojo UK’s/Crazyparts (both wound by Marc at Mojo), Stephens Design, Rewind Electric, Gil Yaron, Tyson Tone, Sigils are all towards the top. These are great too, but I wish they had A5’s

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641 are the mojos kind of microphonic like Doyle coils or wizz pickups? Can I ask why you prefer them ? Thanks so much for the reply. Huge help. Really appreciate it
@mattthrun-nowicki86412 жыл бұрын
@@baroqueguitarist5673 They definitely have that microphonic airiness. Them and the Stephenses do the best job at capturing the “granularity” of real vintage PAF’s.

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641 hi Matt, Why do you wish they had A5? And compared to the Mojo, how do you see pros and cons? Thanks!
@mattthrun-nowicki86412 жыл бұрын
@Thomas Swan Obviously there’s tons of variations in the metallurgical processing methods of modern magnets and, in addition to this heterogeneity, modern ones in general are quite different from vintage ‘50’s ones. But in my experience, those PAF tones are somewhere between a modern A2 and A5, so a degaussed-ish A5 seems just right to my ears

Hi great sound! Is it Gibson Custom Shop guitar? Could you maybe do another demo of these pick ups with some cool gain? Many Thanks!
@mattthrun-nowicki86413 жыл бұрын
It’s actually a Japanese Crews Maniac Sound LS01 guitar- very underrated Les Paul-style guitar. And by cool gain, do you mean a lot? I don’t use pedals, but I could make a video through a slightly higher gain amp. But I don’t play Marshall’s or Mesa’s or anything- just Hiwatt style amps.
