Just got my Mojo 59’s today and tried them out. I’ve got LPR’s and Signatures from Ellis too. The look and shape of the covers of the Mojo’s are so close to original PAF’s! The sound, jury is still out. That raspiness stood out right away. Notes a little thicker too. I do like the sweetness and clarity from the Ellis’s and the chirp and softer feel. . Mojo’s are fine sounding pickups though . Just gotta play more and see what pickups really take a hold of me the most.

@@scottgeorge6375Please keep me informed! The raspiness/granularity is a PAF staple to my ears. But I’m curious how you feel. Also- compare them to real Burst PAF’s, a la here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZvElKmMfb55aZIsi=6pFMw0Ms6_0slusc

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641 Your videos turned me on to that granularity thing. Learning a lot about PAF’s lately in part due to your channel. I have a bit of playin to do to form an opinion but I’ll keep you posted for sure. Thanks for the video. Very interesting

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641so I spent more time playing these and I really like them a lot. They have a lot of airyness, bite, tight bass and that harder A5 feel compared to A2/A3. Great clarity top end detail. To me I hear Duane Allman’s Darkburst.. if I had gotten the NOS wire, what would I notice?
@Funk11147Ай бұрын
@@scottgeorge6375 I know Kirk fletcher has an a5 Ellis in the neck how do they compare to the mojo? I’m after a new set tone wise leaning more to the Josh smith robben ford Kirk fletcher tones. Or also the mojo 59 low winds.
@scottgeorge6375Ай бұрын
@@Funk11147 I have the Ellis LRP’s They fuller or fatter sounding. They are clearer little softer at the same time. Early PAF tones. Think Duane Allman Fillmore. The Mojo’s are different and I love them. They have an A5 mag so the attack is harder and faster. Lots of Airey-ness in the notes. They have a grainy texture to them that is real cool. Very punchy pickups. I have low wind ones. Hope that helps.

Sounds great! Just to make sure, these are the cheaper Mojotone '59 Clone Vintage P.A.F. style 320 pound for a set ones?, not the more expensive NOS wire?

These are the NOS wire set, but the non-NOS sound about 90% as good

Would you say these are brighter than the Ellis LRP? I have a Lp with a bright high e and want to fit it with the right PAF. I have Ellis’s and love them but these sound fantastic for half the price
@mattthrun-nowicki86413 ай бұрын
They’re definitely brighter- A5 vs A2/3 for the LRP’s. But not ice pick-y

Like a great singer with a raspy strong chest voice, then on the drop of a dime can go right into a sweet clear falsetto effortlessly, thats what these do, daves do, and the real ones do...Does anyone get what i mean?

Hi, they sound great no doubt. But - listen to the ‘nasal’ character of the vintage PAF on the bridge pickup. That they don’t have. Listen to your demo of the Spirit of 59. It uses special made vintage A4 and has exactly the sound of the typical old PAF… :)
@mattthrun-nowicki86412 жыл бұрын
I prefer the Mojo’s myself. They have a granular character that’s more inherent in vintage PAF’s. I’m aware of the A4 magnets in the Ambers, and have communicated with Wolfgang (the owner of Amber) about that. My preference for A5 is based on a number of things, first and foremost being that my set of Ambers didn’t sound like the set that Doug and Pat demo’d. The only difference between my set and theirs was the magnet. The whole issue of magnets is quite opaque, since various winders make various claims regarding the type and composition of vintage magnets. However, the majority I’ve talked to (including James Finnerty at Rewind, Jon at Throbak, etc) all are convinced that vintage PAF’s were mostly A2 and A5 magnets. Naturally, one can then raise the issue that metallugrically speaking, today’s Alnico compositions are different than in the ‘50’s, and make the claim that today’s A4 is metallurgically more like vintage ones. But no one ever actually shows proof of stuff like this in the form of detailed analyses, so all I can go on is based on my subjective hearing. The Ambers are great pickups, don’t get me wrong, but to my ears, Mojo, Stephens Design, Rewind etc have captured the vintage PAF sound a tad better

I have to say it again... The f-ing mojos are as good as they get.. Neck in neck with Daves, which all around is #1 these are a close 2nd.. They share simular character, Daves are just dirtier and grittier which i love... These are pretty filthy though.. Anytime i played a real vintage with pafs the there are differentt colors in each note, almost like they sound as if each note changes and morphs into different sounds, these do that..the word is multi dimensional..That bloom!!!

Hey there Matt, Man these sound awesome and can see why it's hard to stop playing. Do you think there is much audible difference in the NOS Wire ? May order a set for my True Historic. Thanks for the helpful Demo's.

I’d say there’s 5-10% of a difference. The stock Mojos sound incredible to start with, these just a have a touch more air-y clarity

@@mattthrun-nowicki8641 Thanks for the quick reply. Really appreciate that Bud. Hey would you by chance have any sets available to sell.? I'm in desperate need of a neck pickup especially for one of my R8's that has some much needed Top End and more clarity, but would love a set as well. Been trying to reach Dave @ SD pickups but about ready to just give up. Maybe I unintentionally said something wrong in past emails or something, but can't even get my foot in the door so to speak. Love your demo's of his pup's as well. I will maybe try to message you via reverb from a past message. Many Thanks Again for the Help
