The way Amber dismissed Becky’s skin condition as not important pisses me off. Becky literally says not 20 seconds later she’s had a cancerous mole taken off, but I guess catering to Amber’s every whim is more important than Becky getting her SKIN CANCER treated. ALR can kiss the widest part of my of my melanoma-prone ass for this bullshit.

And then amber made her drive her to Walmart after Becky said “if it were my decision I’d be in bed”. She has to be the centre of attention and feels threatened if Becky has something of interest. It’s fucking pathetic.

Covert Narcissism is also called Vulnerable Narcissism, which honestly makes sense- they just can't handle any form of criticism. With Amber, a lot of her narcissistic behavior seems to be rooted in low self esteem and vulnerability. Especially when Smuglynn comes out. My mother is a covert narcissist and I see a lot of similarities.

I remember once Becky corrected her pronunciation of a word and Amber kinda paused a few seconds, looking off into space processing and then says something like "I know...wow, the audience is really gonna think i did that by accident, I was joking" and it was so obvious that she clearly mispronounced it that I think her pause was trying to decide if she should try to claim it was intentional, realized it was unbelievable, but claimed it anyway. She just couldn't let herself let it go, even if she knew it would make her look worse denying it, she had to deny anyway

On the Twinkie subject: What people may or may not recall was when destiny left Amber, Amber let Twinkie go to the bathroom in “Destiny’s old room”. (It was a 2 bedroom townhome). Instead of taking her outside. I can’t recall if Amber admitted this or if Rafe had said this but she also said the house smelled HORRIBLE because Jax sprayed everywhere since she didn’t fix him (her old cat that she got rid of, let someone take him in as an outdoor cat after only being indoors and he not surprisingly passed away. He was young. She also had said she doesn’t scoop litter boxes and we’ve seen old videos of the litter box over flowing in the background. Sooo people have every right to believe she wouldn’t care for her animals on her own. And that just scratches the surface of everything else we know about her as an awful pet owner!!

Amberlynn also was enraged when whoever she left her cats with when she first moved in with Becky was going to spay Rarity. Amberlynn had shown no sign of retrieving the cats and Rarity was definitely ready to be spayed. So Amberlynn took the cats back in a huff and ended up having to get Rarity spayed anyway. I don't know the whole story, but I would not be surprised if it was the landlord's requirement or forced by the other housemates. Believe me, nobody wants to put up with 9 days of howling and chirping and escape attempts even once. And the heat periods come at shorter and shorter intervals. Mother Nature wants all girl kitties to be constantly barefoot and pregnant. Even letting a female cat go through a first heat is enough to make the risk of breast cancer skyrocket. Spaying later doesn't entirely reduce that risk. One cat who was four years old on arrival (and who had given birth at least once before) developed breast cancer and was dead by age 7. We tried to remove the tumors surgically three times and they kept coming back. Breast cancer is very aggressive in cats. I don't know why Amberlynn is so reluctant to spay and neuter her pets. They get so stressed during heat if female and are likewise stressed if they can't mate if male, as well as spraying all over the place. The cats don't care, so why does she? One experience with a cat in heat and one experience with a cat battling breast cancer would teach her. Maybe. She's a slow learner.

As a child. Most of us have parents who teach us that stuff. Just the other day my nine year old niece had an argument with her mom and in the middle of it her mom told her, “Don’t roll your eyes at me. That’s rude!” Amber grew up with drug addicted parents who most likely didn’t even care how she talked to other people and never corrected her.

Most people learn to do that as a kid. Some even learn to manage their microexpressions - the rolled eyes, the hints at a smirk, her death stares at Becky when Becky would accidentally tell the truth about something about Amnerlynn, and things like that. Amberlynn clearly never learned the latter. Moving Wifey in and denying it on camera while also constantly looking off to the side and failing to manage those microexpressions told us all what we already knew, for instance.

I'd feel kinda bad if my bad habits influenced my partner negatively. Yeah, Becky is responsible for herself but Amber didn't help. Amber couldn't even be bothered to read the label herself.

I was raised by a mom with a lot of covert narcissism tendencies. I get really paranoid about whether or not I have absorbed those traits. I would be mortified if I acted the way Amber does and treat people the way she does. I feel like Im going crazy because standing up for myself and setting boundaries feels like "Am I being controlling?" "Am I being unreasonable?"

If you are able to, please go to therapy! Not because I think you are a narcissist ;) but because it will help you gain confidence and reassurance that you are okay and will help you heal old wounds. All people show behaviors which people with disorders have in an increased way. Mood swings, being selfish, aggressive anxious or sad, having no energy or love to get attention. Those are all normal emotions and behaviors. But they can become a problem in certain disorders. If you are self-aware enough to question your behaviors, you most likely don’t have NPD. Much love!

Her idea of falling in love is more like being excited to find a new caretaker etc. who will do whatever she wants and keep her from being alone. She doesn’t seem able or willing to want to take care of the other person. Likewise, her focus with pets is what they can do for her. I’m not convinced the Twinkie Incident was real - Amberlynn’s account seemed way too similar to what Eric had actually experienced earlier that day with his dog, who had a diagnosed seizure disorder and was having a bad episode. Amberlynn didn’t even record the alleged incident for the vet to see and to use as “content”. I suspect she just wanted some sympathy and it all backfired on her, because (surprise, surprise) people were more worried about Twinkie than about Amberlynn. Her description of her phone conversation with the vet the next day (whether or not the call was made) was classic Amberlynn. She said the vet made HER feel better. Nothing really about the dog or advice about what to do in future or even the obvious reminding her that there was a number she could call after-hours in an emergency (as every vet I’ve ever known has, I had to use it once and the vet gave me instructions and said to call back if that didn’t work and she would open up the clinic for us).

Years ago, Amberlynn treated Becky the same way. Whenever Becky was dragged into an Amberlynn video, for example to answer some questionnaire, when Becky was talking then Amberlynn would be so distracting: fussing with the camera, checking herself out in the viewfinder, looking bored out of her mind, and interrupting Becky as soon as possible with remarks that showed she had not listened to Becky at all and was just changing the topic prematurely back to herself. It was rare for Becky to get a chance to complete her thoughts. And yet Becky was so obviously thinking more deeply and had much more interesting things to say. Amberlynn seems like such a shallow person in comparison. The big difference in the post-breakup live streams was Becky’s ability to hold her own regardless, without being unkind or bullying. She seemed quietly confident and genuine. She also seemed skilled in techniques advised by professionals on how to deal with and escape from narcissists. I really think she must have been working with a therapist for a while who coached her properly on how to approach the situation. Amberlynn was baffled, I don’t think she had seen this competent and fearless side of Becky before. Or maybe she just never noticed, because it was so futile to discuss anything with Amberlynn that Becky undoubtedly just would walk away at some point, leaving Amberlynn to assume that she herself was “the winner”.

I hope Becky takes the time to watch this video and to "see" how ALR was really treating her over the years. I hope she doesn't think any of this is her fault. ALR cares for no one except herself. It is evident in her new videos. She could care less about what her partner wants or needs. She doesn't take the time to know her partner. Perhaps her next vlog should showcase her x mile walk with her dog, a deep clean of the kitchen, changing bedding, wiping down the bathroom, vacuuming, mopping and buying the weekly food shop - you know, the chores that most of us do on a daily basis. Go on Amber with your superhero stamina, let us see what a wiz you are at home.

I’ve used unscented Cetaphil products myself. To be honest, the ingredients are all very similar. Doubt that there is any real problem using them “off-label”. The different ones are just marketed to different people with different concerns, but the treatment is basically the same.

Most everyone has *some* traits, it's part of being human 💁🏻‍♀️ People with NPD rarely show insight into the behavior, so the fact that you're catching it hints that you're probably growing from past mistakes (a good thing) vs a clinical narc. Same, I'm really worried on one hand because I can see my past self in these videos, at the same time, I was a minor back then and now I'm an adult and I'm completely different, I reflect a lot more when it comes to my actions etc. I think my problem with accepting criticism comes from how my parents treated me: my mother was very violent and she would criticize every single thing about me. She would call me fat and ugly as a kid, she would beat me for getting B's instead of A's in school, she even beat me once when I was a kid for wearing a purple skirt with a pink shirt because in her opinion "the colours don't go together". I have been heavily criticized all the time as a kid and barely praised for anything, to the point where I just couldn't take criticism anymore and would just blame something else instead of myself. It's gotten a lot better thankfully, but I think there's still so much I need to get over and heal from to be able to fully accept criticism. Sometimes when I get criticized, I feel so awful that I have to remove myself from the situation and cry because it scares me so much, I'm just unfortunately extremely sensitive. It sucks tbh. I hope I can have thicker skin in the future and that it's gonna be okay. I wish you good luck on your journey too.

I’m neurodivergent and suffer from rejection sensitive dysphoria because of it, so criticism and even just teasing comments honestly make me feel so embarrassed and want to cry and at its worst, even suicidal. I sought help though around 2 years ago because I realized I was hurting those around me, who never intended to hurt my feelings, it’s just that processing and regulating emotions is extremely difficult for me. Now it’s more like swallowing a hard pill and thanking someone for correcting me or informing me on something I should improve on, or taking extra time to realize some things were just a joke and everything’s alright. Of course sometimes I want to get defensive, but I never had a smug, rude attitude like what Amber displays. I chose to major in social work because I love helping and listening to others, but sometimes I worry that I was diagnosed wrong and I’m actually a narcissist :(

Worrying that you might be a narcissist is most likely a sign that you aren’t one. You just need some help navigating a different world, as you have been getting. You’re making progress, so you’ll do all right. Misunderstandings are normal for everyone, you just have some extra big rocks in your path you have to climb over or find your way around.

I love your videos, as always, and I feel like she definitely is a covert narcissist. “Friends” with all her exes (orbiters, proof she isn’t the problem), cannot listen to a thing Becky says, big eye rolls and exaggerated expressions when she disagrees, cannot take any form of criticism but dishes out judgments and criticism constantly (especially to Becky), has animals more for “aesthetic” because she cannot care for them, huge emotional reaction to the breakup but moved on very quickly and in a wirlwind type of relationship, and of course not to mention the massive eating disorder/food addiction that she blames on everyone but herself…. the list can go on and on!

My boyfriend of 15 years does this to me when I talk about things. Either he plays on his phone, doesn’t respond and gets mad when I say he isn’t listening or tells me to stop bitching at him. He gets defensive when I bring up stuff that bother me and says I always blame him for everything. Then if I don’t stop talking he will tell me to stop and he doesn’t want to argue anymore even though I always start out calm. It always ends up with nothing being discussed and me feeling like I am invisible while he goes into another room or something. 15 minutes later he comes out and acts like nothing happened. We have a disabled child and I am actually stuck. I cannot get out and no one in my life cares or believes me because he seems like such s nice guy to them. Ugh sorry for the rant but this really triggered something in me.

I have an aunt that's just like ALR. She'll throw slurs about petty things but breaks down if you call her out on that. She has absolutely no idea that things she says are mean and nasty. She truly thinks she treats everyone with love, but believe me it doesn't feel like love. Her ego is very easily damaged. The entire family says they can only take her in small doses. She constantly makes empty promises and if you get upset with her about it then you're picking on her. It's like the world revolves around her and if it doesn't she blows up. I can not imagine living with ALR it had to be constant egg shells and but not getting any respect.

Don't get me wrong, ALR is very toxic to herself and others but, for me, having ADHD can cause you to start a convo, switch it up, or not really be listening. I occasionally struggle with this if I don't proactively remind myself to engage with them and make them feel heard and loved. Conversations are a two way street. My mind wanders easily, and I even annoy myself at times. Lol. Alot of practice and it doesn't happen nearly as much. I definitely feel that she has NARC written all over her, but with a dash of that good ol" hummingbird attention span. She is unbearable to watch her be so rude. It's a good reminder of what NOT to do. You do such a great Job on these videos and have learned so much. May your days be blessed and forget the rest... Happy 2022 y'all!

I have a friend with ADHD and it's honestly a bit funny sometimes to observe this haha, I can tell that his mind is a bit all over the place and it does feel a bit weird sometimes when he switches the conversation really quickly to a different thing, but then I just let him talk and come back to my main point again. I know he doesn't do it to be rude, so I just say "oh yeah, I just wanted to add earlier that..." and that seems to do the trick for me haha

This was really good Merc! I really appreciate you doing these videos and they have taught me more about narcissism. My mom is a narc and I can't have a relationship with her at all. It is insulting to be asked if she's caring for her dog, but Twinkie's nails were literally claws at some point, there was the time where Twinkie was visibly in pain and Amber chose to ignore it and go to Walmart, and then there's the issue of Becky being the primary caretaker and the one who walks Twinkie.
