@@liamjpbrady And completely wrong and in my view disrespectful to the executed of 1916, what they stood for, who they fought against and full of incorrect supposed "facts" (in fact they are so wrong it would be laughable if it wasn't so bad) so you must also be completely devoid of knowledge around the Easter Rising and the aftermath and obviously not understand the irony of this spectacle and how offensive it is to people like me who absolutely love and adore these brave men and women. As an immensely proud Irish-American, Grace is one of my dearest songs, taught it to my children (My daughter's middle name is Grace) as toddlers. Together as a family we traveled to Ireland and Northern Ireland and learned and walked the grounds of the GPO and Kilmainham Goal, me as a grand-child and namesake for a 1916 Uprising Survivor and my children, my son is also a namesake of his great grandfather. Fast forward to 2016 my son a Sgt. in the United States Marines Corps attended the 100th Anniversary celebration of the uprising as a member of then Vice-President Biden's security detail, walking the street toting a gun just like his Great Grandfather that day in 2016. I still get chills when I hear this song and yes I do tear up.

She would have been 81 years old in 1969 had she lived until then and not many people born in 1888 like she was, did so. For me it's about the song and the two people who the song is, about!! Irish history is written in song and this one is exceptionally great. It causes a tear every time.. Rebels we will always be until every corner of our land is free. England itself will always be in chains until Ireland is in bondage no more..

Well if the English had a referendum to leave irland and Scotland The English would let you stand on your own 2 feet . we voted to leave uerope .you can see by comments English basterds etc the Irish poeple saying these things were not about at time of killing.unlike the English who in the 70s lost love ones . English poeple don't know what all the trouble is about they would give your country back with a vote and every one happy. They give Scottish a vote to leave they don't give the English a vote to leave Scottish. Hopefully we be split in to our own country s and peace and recentment gone

Here are the lyrics of the full song. As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Jail I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we've failed? From our school days they have told us we must yearn for liberty Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand The love I bare for these brave men, the love for my dear land But when Pádraic called me to his side down in the GPO I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too On this May morn as I walk out, my thoughts will be of you And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye For we must say goodbye

Jim McCann's version is my favourite. He gives a bit of history about the song before singing it. But fairplay to Rod for giving it a belt ❤❤❤.

Go into any pub in Ireland and you'll find a better singer than jim Mccann, Rod is well past his best but I'll bet his studio cut of this is the best version ever and i enjoyed this live version more than mccanns.

Edward Donnachie I've never claimed Jim McCann was better than Rod and I'm sure they're are better singers than him. But Jim's version is my favourite of any one I've heard. It's just set in my mind. Xxx

Mairead Meehan Mairead I'm right beside you on my favourite person to sing it with out a doubt in my opinion Jim is by far the best it's just the information you said Jim give's at the start is incorrect as if you look at other comments you will learn the correct information on the BEAUTIFUL SONG well if you haven't already done that Mairead ✌💚🍀☘✔
