@@blunderingfool It honestly is a LOT like Commandos, but with an inventory so you can grab fresh gear off soldiers you kill... or... give all of your company's gear to one man and pull an Amphibious assault. Like Commandos, it's really better if you mainly use 1 soldier and just have others hide or support them from cover.

Well doing some homework on the Soviet orders, decorations and so on. I've deduced these medals: Hero of the Soviet Union 2x Awarded Order of Lenin 2x Awarded Order of the Red Star 3x Awarded (If he survived WW2 to 1945) - Order of the Patriotic War Order of Alexander Nevsky 2nd Class Order of Kutuzov 1st Class, two classes Order of Glory 1st Class, all 3 classes Order "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" Literally Lazar met all criteria for these medals. Lazar IS the Red Army.

It's worth mentioning if you missed it that Shadow Tactics; Blades of the Shogun is extremely Commandoes-like in it's gameplay. I mean it's Samurai and Ninjas doing Edo period stuff but it's otherwise very reminiscent of the basic gameplay loops.

This reminds me of an anecdote my grandfather used to tell. His neighbor in the small village where he grew up had somehow gotten hold of a Kübelwagen after the war, which he parked in the barn. One day in the morning, the poor guy grazed the barn door as he was driving out, and that was the end of him. And the barn. It took like half a year to clear all of the rubble. Anyway, I don't think there are any Kübelwagen around any more. The Verfassungsschutz tracked down and scrapped the last ones during the 70s.

I remember playing the original Faces of War. All my dudes were dead except for one sniper. it was the first strategy game I played where you could take direct control of units. I lead him across the map, taking out what I needed, when I needed to. Got to the end and had to get past an armoured car. There was a AT gun near by but I figured even if I could move it into place, the car would likely kill me before I can get a shot off. Then I wondered if I load AP shells, could I simply manually target it the car through the walls of a house. Low and behold, it was absolutely possible. It was what made me fall in love with the franchise.

This is like an alternate universe Metal Gear franchise in the making. Big Amphibian, once known by the code name: Lazar and his rival Max, Lazar's arch nemesis who keeps trying to restore the German Reich by building more and more elaborate giant mechs. Max survived his injuries during WWII, for he was rebuilt, someone had the technology and way too much money for their own good.

This immediately reminds me of Soldiers: Heroes of WW2. (Ah ok it's the sequel?) It was def easier to use 1 soldier in that and just have others take up covering positions. You can clear whole maps without losing a man if you're careful about it, vs just plain failing the mission if you actually try to charge your guys in.
