Oil change, filters, flush fuel system, belts and a check of the braking system. General exploration of crannies for more rodents/insects etc. Get it up on a lift to check the undersides for mechanical nightmares. Drain and flush radiator/coolant, transfer cases, differentials. With a little luck $2000 should cover tires and all the lubing/belts/filters etc. Re tires, reminds me of my '90 Ranger, on OEM tires in 2012 when I loaded 20 50# concrete mix bags in back and got about a mile from home when the first tire blew.

Love the white OBS Ford! The 7.3 manuals are such and under rated setup. I love my e99 w/ the zf6. Absolutely hauls the mail and then some. Hutch/harpoon mod is also a really good idea if you’re dropping the tanks for that sending unit. Make sure the tank selector works as well before filling up both tanks to the top. For the winter, glow plugs, a really good glow plug relay, good batteries, and a healthy starter are required. FoMoCo glow plugs are the good standard, a white Rodgers relay is good over kill, and a gear reduction starter at a minimum. Sounds like the truck at least has a gear reduction starter as it sits. A denso 4kw starter is a really good replacement if you’re in need for the future.

OK, word to the wise. You want it to run, be safe and not break down! So!, Pull it into your garage, and start making a list. Open the hood, make a two sided list, one for what to do, one for parts. Just go ahead and replace all wear items such as hoses, belts, fluids, filters and so on. Then look at the drive lines and components, change fluids in the trans and T-case, check, and maybe replace the u-joints, then replace all brake stuff. Shoes, pads, hoses and small parts(for the rear, calipers, Diff fluids In other words, everything that you'd normally change and replace from day one of buying it new till now. An BTW Courtney, yes the visor is "nostalgic" But so is the bug deflector! They actually do work when driving at road speeds esp at night. Really does help keep the bug guts from getting on your windshield. Look forward to the work on this truck.

My recommendations are 38 gallon rear bronco tank mod, PMF rsk front spring kit with superduty springs, b code rear superduty spring swap, hydro boost brake conversion from a 97 F-superduty, e99 turbo pedestal delete, wicked wheel2 since you likely ingested air cleaner parts into you turbo, 360 deg thrust washer. Hey, Glad to see you got the old Ford running. One trick to try when trying to fire off those old diesels with fuel issues is to mash the gas pedal to the floor and leaving it about half throttle when it cracks off. Those vacuum fuel systems suck because any bit of air will cause you a headache. If you have the time and money, I would definitely recommend adding an aftermarket lift pump.

With the diesel with the old school mechanical pump it will never bleed the air out of the lines cranking. You will have to keep filling the fuel filter assembly. Usually the line from the fuel tank, where it connects to the filter assembly is a rubber line. What I do is buy an inline cheap low pressure 12 volt fuel pump, connect between the filter assembly and the fuel inlet line. Run the 12 volt fuel pump the fill the bowl to make sure it is pumping. Install the filter assembly cover with the filter. While running the 12 volt pump, try to start the vehicle. If the filter assembly is maintaining fuel and the truck doesn't start because it isn't getting fuel it is your mechanical fuel pump which is located at top of your engine. I went through the same problem with my 1996 model. They do make an electric fuel pump conversion kit. Although the pump is a pain to replace they actually last.

As an experienced 7.3L past owner I can tell you fuel and oil is always the problem. Never go below a 1/4 tank common for the bottom of the fuel pickup tube to be broken off. Keep the oil clean and filters fresh. The fuel pump is oil driven. 80% of the time if truck died on the road or wouldn't start it was the oil was past its useful life. Highly recommend Shell Rotella T4 (both my 2000 and 2001 hated T5 and T6). It liked Dino oil not synthetic. I ran a good quality Cetane Booster with anti-gel in winter and regular cetane booster in summer. It helps.
