I was going to say that if you get the middle of it high centered you will loose traction and stop moving. But then you did it. Just be careful about deep mud because that can happen. You know Riley, everything has a limit. If you roll that thing without a cage you'll be stuck under it.

That’s awesome you two. Something you might want to look at and you two probably could build are tracks for the Argo. I’m up in northern lower Michigan and people have them up here. Once they put tracks on they will go anywhere!! If you check they also make Windshields back seats and inclosers for them to. Have fun with it but be careful!!!

These use to be popular in New Zealand in the 90s, but due to the high maintenance of the chains most went back to ATVs, keep an eye on the shaft seals and keep up with the maintenance on the chains and you can't go wrong, interested to see what you power it with, All the best with this project

yes they are very high maintenance. I still have an old six x six and our squad had an 8x8. Drive belts, fuel pumps and chains were issues.

You guys got something fun! My buddy Mark has one of these, he went down to the bobcat repair shop and got some tracks to go over the tires...it works 10x better on land & water. We also have floats on the sides that you use for kayaks mounted, they give you a little more stability and it's a great place to carry a cooler and extra poles 😉

That looked like a blast 🎉. The conversion of a partially water vehicle to electric could be shocking. So be careful with the separation of electricity and water. Consider a back propeller if weight distribution stays the same to amplify water speeds.

Welll done , adding to your fleet of vehicles. Converting it too electric might be a problem for , it still needs to float,, the weight of battery's will be a big issue. Then I also suggest you find a way to stop the water rushing over the back tailgate . Maybe add a propeller shaft a rear...

Actually, a vehicle like this can be REALLY useful at SO many situations. I remember when we had the huge floodings here in germany a while ago and a complete area and multiple cities along a river looked like a warzone because the water destroyed almost everything. Bridges, roads, rails, houses, simply everything. For weeks the most of the people there got supplies via helicopter since this was the only way to access the area. I remember that there then was ONE amphibious vehicle similar like yours that was able to cross the destroyed, flooded and blocked roads because of its ability to cross land, water, mud and the most things that stopped "normal" offroad vehicles and it was a GIFT from god. I mean, a vehicle like this is almost unstoppable. Water, Snow, Mud, Sand, Dirt, simply everything is no problem with it. The best example was how you simply drove it on (and even off) the trailer without a sweat. XD And yeah, a baby seat is SURELY a good idea on that thing.

Get tracks on it for deep snow or you will be getting it stuck! They are worthless without tracks in deep snow. Also this doesn’t have the optional skid plates under it. You will destroy the plastic underbody fast if you don’t get those.

Well, that looks fun, keep some tools onboard and keep an eye on those chains, adjusted, cleaned and lubricated often. I found a kidney belt helped me enjoy it more and 8 wheels are better than 6, well done and amazing Oliver is already babysitting the dogs and teaching them tricks so you can have some time alone... kids grow up so fast these days.

That is a great solution to mud season! EV conversion, hey? Lithium has better energy density, but there is higher cost and complexity since you will want a good BMS and a charger that has an appropriate charging profile. I have a complete EV I could donate that has an A/C drive system and a charger that can be programmed for lithium. It is configured as lead acid currently, so it doesn't have a BMS. Give me a call if this interests you.

Interesting project! One important challenge: You’ll need to keep the weight the same so that it can still float, and won’t sink further into snow and mud. Electric vehicles can be heavy.
