I just want to say this album is a wonderful musical piece of art I've loved since I heard it back in '75 when I was 15. Decades later my brother and I finally got to see you guys live in Whittier, Ca. when you performed a set of your more progressive rock style material. You guys nailed it. Thank you for the beauty.

Oh, it is so fun watching you younger kids "discover" the great music we took for granted in our day. Your parents were right. It's "old folks music" because it takes many years of listening to crappy music to understand the pure excellence of 60's, 70's, and early 80's music and musicians. One has to first grow up to appreciate it ;-)

Those organ swells/accents during the last chorus are like ocean waves crashing against my brain. I grew up on Ambrosia. They were one of those bands that could consistently put out a song that made you both want to fall in love and out of love, just so you could experience the longing and heartache in, David's voice.

I actually saw Ambrosia and The Little River Band together way, way back in the day. The venue had sold out but they opened up the orchestra pit and sold tickets in there the day of the show, and I just happened to be at the ticketron outlet buying Ted Nugent tickets when they did. One of the best shows I've ever seen as I recall.

David Pack's vocals are very distinctive and enjoyable. Some suggestions: From the same album - "Nice, Nice, Very Nice" and "Somewhere I've Never Traveled". David put out an album on his own titled "Anywhere You Go" with Many good songs. Lastly try a little known album by Kerry Livgren, former Kansas keyboardist titled "Seeds of Change" where David is lead vocal for the song "Ground Zero".

Trust me, all of us who were teenagers in the 70s got this song engraved in our heads within seconds of hearing it. Ambrosia's first 2 albums, both nominated for Grammy awards, were known as their progressive rock albums while later albums had more of a pop, sometimes jazzy feel to them. For me, this song was their finest. And if you feel a little bit of that Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" engineering quality to it, it's because Alan Parsons (genius that he was and is) was the engineer on both albums. One thing that has bothered me for a long time is the lack of credit that has been given to some truly great music that came out of 70s rock. Progressive rock was always my favorite and I remain grateful to the FM radio stations like KOME in San Francisco that we were all so dependant on to keep us informed of new music.

Hey brother, thanks for doing another Ambrosia tune. I saw that Mr. Puerta or one of the band’s current members dropped a comment in this thread, and so happy they’re tossing a bit of applause your way. With no radio play for most older songs, it’s up to word of mouth to pass on how great music was in the 70’s! I was with these guys from their first album, where “Holdin On..” is from… and though I thought they were a better ‘prog-ish’ band than a ‘pop hits’ band, their bank accounts may beg to differ! I was a big Fan of The songs that Joe was lead singer on, like ‘Drink of Water’… and in fact sang ‘Ready for Camarillo’ to one of my theater classes @ Penn State as an assignment. Love his voice! But ‘Holdin’ On…’ is one of my fave songs of all time because of all the things you mentioned in your reaction. The vibe is both cool and sad, Pack’s guitar tone is ridiculous, Joe’s bass notes are given space to breathe… and the guitar/ violin solo & back end solo is absolutely exquisite and heartbreaking. One more thing; you mentioned Chris North’s organ & church… My friends and I talk about the constant double meanings that Pack’s songs seem to have - they are love songs, but we feel they may have been about god/Jesus all along… not relationships… this song included. Check out Camarillo or If Heaven Could Find Me!

Since you are now a fellow Ambrosia fan the next logical step is to check out The Alan Parsons Project. Why? Because all members of Ambrosia contributed to APP on their debut album Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Edgar Allan Poe, also because Mr. Parsons produced Ambrosia's second album Somewhere I've Never Traveled. Parsons is a legendary producer who has worked with the Beatles, Ambrosia, Al Stewart - to name a few.

I’ve learned to respect so many bands that I took so lightly or overlooked as a kid. GREAT EXAMPLE HERE! Great musicianship as well as vocals & lyrics! Alan Parsons mentions working with them & how under appreciated they were. Apparently they wanted to do Prog rock believe it or not! That violin is RIGHTEOUS playing off the organ & guitar! Hearing them with my new ears I really appreciate them now! GREAT JOB BRO!!
