Israeli forces, supported by a growing deployment of U.S. warships in the region, positioned themselves along Gaza’s border and drilled for what Israel said would be a broad campaign to dismantle the militant group. A week of blistering airstrikes have demolished entire neighborhoods but failed to stem militant rocket fire into Israel.
The Gaza Health Ministry said 2,670 Palestinians have been killed and 9,600 wounded since the fighting erupted, more than in the 2014 Gaza war, which lasted over six weeks. That makes this the deadliest of the five Gaza wars for both sides.

Hamas would be decimated if they tried that in my state. A few years ago we had a terrorist enter an office building and behead a woman, and was shot by an armed citizen while trying to behead a second woman, which saved her life and the lives of others, because we later found out that he had planned to behead as many women as he could in that building. I've seen in videos that there were a few Israelis who had guns, but unfortunately most of them had no guns.

Did they really think that a surprise raid across the border to kill as many civilians as possible was going to overthrow Israel? Convince Israel to loosen the blockade? I'm not a Hitler apologist and I hope Hitler burn in hell for eternity. It's Israel the most difficult part of that situation is you have been habituated to seeing men with firearms at intersection a lot... so rolling up to that intersection and not reacting immediately to some soldiers waving you down could mean the difference between living and dying. I'm in the UK. Massive support for the Palestinians (and Hamas?) over here........but I bet most of these people have not seen these videos. Too graphic to be shown on our news channels, although this is why they SHOULD be shown. Supporters here & in other countries have got some idealised view of Gaza, but are blind when it come to the truth. No one seems to have mentioned that in the original attack Hamas studiously avoided attacking the IDF.......for obvious reasons, only going for (very) soft targets.
