Nice throw back! 1 core is painful, but there are dual core CPUs for socket 939 like my Opteron 165. Ah, I remember telling myself: “why would anyone need more than 1 core?” LMAO. Look at us today. I hope to see XP on it with a ton of games for you to test. One of my favorite games back then was X3: Reunion which looks pretty fantastic. Unreal Tournament 2004 - best gaming years of my life even compared to today. There is Doom and so many more.

I have an AMD Athlon 2 X64 5000 Black running Windows 10 smoothly. I also have an AMD Athlon x64 4400 running Windows 7 smoothly. I was told that it wouldn't work but both systems were very easy to get set up and run smoothly. I never tested video playback on KZbin but I have played 720P and 1080P videos off the hard drive.

Hi there! I have a x4 945 and a x4 955 black that runs Windows 10 butter smooth. Those are on the am2 and Am3 platform, though. They run Linux great, too. If Windows 10 support didn't go away, I'd still be running 10! I think the cpu and operating system makers just want to push people to buy new stuff, so they phase out support for older hardware and software. I refurbish older Intel Imacs and other stuff, and they run most stuff fine even today. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

I have an old Socket 939 build that runs Windows 10 32bit flawlessly. There's a Vogons thread about some 939 boards that will take server ram and allow up to 8gb of memory, making it more suited for a Windows 7 64bit build. The biggest limitation you have is the single core processor. Any 2 core will run laps around it for modern applications. Windows XP Integral Edition, Supermium browser, and Legacy Update will put less burden on that cpu than linux, and video playback should be smoother.

Not bad for a old computer. You can try to run windows program with wine and winetricks? Is so sad about steam installation, but can work with some mods.

@ogdan1173 Hi there. Thanks for the tip. Perhaps I'll mess around and try winetricks. There's still a lot of tweaking potential here!

I'm using an FX8370 as a retro main system it runs 98 2000 XP vista 7 and 10 soon i have to replace w10 with steam OS
@RememberThisTech2 ай бұрын
Hey there. That's a solid setup you have there. I've heard that with steam os you get less fps that win10. Have you experienced that? I need to get one machine to dual or triple boot for retro system too.

@@RememberThisTech On my Try i had around 50-60fps in Alan wake in 4k on max settings on Windows 10 it was the same I'm using an evga 980ti ftw in that system and for the 98stuff a PCI 3dfx Voodoo 5500 the tricky part was to get an ddr3 512mb module to install 98 after the ram patch the pc uses 32gb 😅🥰 its a retro time machine i can run xp on the 980ti 🥰

It worked okay considering it's age, perhaps it would perform better with a 32 bit OS., installed, such as LMDE 6.
@RememberThisTech2 ай бұрын
Hey Laurence good idea. That and a dual core cpu ;)

@@RememberThisTech Hello Jason, yes, a dual core CPU., would really help with a 64 bit OS., perhaps you could leave Linux Mint Mate installed and just upgrade the CPU.. I have an old HP Compaq dc 7900 USDT., PC., which has a 2.60 GHz., dual core CPU., and 4 GB., of DDR 2 ram., LM., is the OS., and that computer works well enough for all basic tasks, including YT., videos.
