Why are more people not commenting on the excellent power draw characteristics like Leo ? Seems everyone just loves to be negative all the time. As an upgrade I’d probably not do it if I had a last gen already in place. But AMD are certainly nailing power optimisations. A massive improvement.
@dreadtrain2846

Because power efficiency isn't exciting. Give me performance with it, or gtfo. Especially when I can get the previous gen chips for a lower price and equal or better performance. Paying more for nothing but a little better power efficiency isn't my jam.

@@dreadtrain2846 This is exactly the mindset we need to think deeper on - less power, means cooler, more overclocking, less heat. better stability . its exactly what intel CANT do ! I think its great to see AMD focused on this. I agree, I probably wouldnt sell my 7600x, but as a platform to build upon for the future its a massive step forward. This is why a lot of people were excited about Qualcomm and now AMD are in the zone in mobile on X86 without emulators. its brilliant

I think the desktop market, people are just after performance and nothing else - its what has gone wrong with Intel - pushing too much power through the silicon and its failing. AMD are just showing people an alternative. I dig it.

Keep eating all the AMD bull they tell you. Real facts don't matter anymore. You thought Intel only has stability issues? Intel has it now and will fix it. AMD always have it. All of their Ryzen chiplet cpu's have that from day one. And ILDE power consumption is also something all those tech tubers are not telling you! Intel's worst IDLE powerdraw cpu is the I9-14900K with 7,7 watt including chipset! AMD bestis the 5800X3D with 11,45 watt and the 2nd best is Ryzen 7 9700x with 28,24 watts! The ryzen 9 7900X uses 41,11 watts!!! But hey be happy with the time you use it all core then it will be less using...LMAO. Intel does up to 8x times better with their I5-14600K using 5,17 watt idle compared to 41,11 watts of the 7900X...

Yeah, but that's always like that since 5000. AMD releases new CPUs that are price/performance not competitive with their old stuff, get the "must have the newest things" crowd to buy it up for premium, and then slowly lowers the price over time until it becomes the best price/performance. I'm not expecting any different now.

I think people forget that the 7600 and other non X skews exist which was basically almost just as fast as the X variants and had almost the same power draw of these new Zen 5 CPUs. Hardware unboxed just reminded me of that myself and it really shows how god awful this launch is. I think its time for a lot of techtubers to stop pandering to the loud AMD but small AMD dogmatic supporters and just start calling stuff for what it is. This doesnt make Raptor Lake any less of a dumpster fire, it does mean there will be less interest in these CPUs which i guess would bring techtubers less traffic but its better to just be honest about stuff cause people can tell when something is forced or inauthentic. Nobody should be buying these CPUs, not till they drop like $150 in price. And yess i do mean $150 because you can get Zen 4 for mad cheap right now and there is literally no reason to but a 9700X or even a 9600X over a 7800X3D. Absolutely none, if power efficiency was your concern you shouldve saved money and bought a 7600 or 7700. Almost the same wattage, almost the same performance in gaming and multithreading as a 9600X and 9700X, dont get duped

I had to undervolt and tweak so much settings just to get cpu PPT around 15-20 watts while browsing youtube with the R5 7500f. I took about a week tuning SOC voltage and some other settings just to get the low cpu load wattage below 20 watts. Was this improved with the 9600? It was never a problem with intel chips where it consumes not even 5 watts while browsing the net.

Laptops with >50% batterlife increase AND a small perf bump, again huge win. ONLY enthusiast desktops and the like don't see a big win here. Even some of those get a boost with current itx case craze and you can use a smaller cooler for those. The mini pc's that are gaining some traction also benefit from the reduced cooling need.

It's not great, it's far too expensive compared with it's direct predecessors. Why would I buy a 9600x over the 7600x or 7600, both of which are much cheaper and offer more or less the same performance?

If AMD let the new generation be overpowered they would probably face the same degradation issues in a few years as Intel now. You can't have everything. I am happy to have decent performance with much lower power draw. Can't wait to see the rest of the line up plus the X3D chips , compatibility with higher speed DDR5 RAM sticks and the newer 800 series motherboards.

Is the 9600X a good option for streaming and content creation.?
@daunted232
@daunted232 4 ай бұрын
It can be, it depends on course. If you are using the cpu to render videos, 6 cores can be fine if you don't mind waiting. If you are earning money from content creation and time is money, then having more cores to render with will be worth it. I would say for hobbyists, 9600x is absolutely fine. If you are using gpu to render things using a built-in encoder, then 6 cores is not going to matter that much. If your thing is gaming- 99% live content, and 1% long form video, then a gpu investment is going to be a higher priority. If your gpu is barely used, then you might want to invest more in a higher cpu core count. :D

@@daunted232 If you had an Intel core and an AMD core, would you get the same work from both? So if you were an expert, can you look at cores and speed, do the math and know which one will win, without ever turning the chip on?

@@CatherineMitchell-br8dx You can't really "do the math". I don't have all the testing equipment I would need to conduct such tests. It really isn't the biggest deal which brand you choose, they will both do the job. I wouldn't stress over a couple of %, here and there. Get what you can afford, of the modern options. You can also sell the cpu later, on eBay and such. Just keep the box and protective plastic case it comes in. Just make sure the cpu you get, is compatible with the motherboard you own. AMD made a lot of predictions about how much better Zen 5 will be than Zen 4, how accurate would you say their presentstion stats were?

The 9600x is going be "top of the chart" when you only compare it to CPUs that are weaker than it.

It's matching and beating the 14900k in a lot of titles, I think for a 6 core, it's punching well above it's weight. Half the price too.

The gap between Zen 3 and 4 was good but the gap between Zen 4 and 5 is ... near non existent ... Zen 5 appears to be a refresh of Zen 4, just a little bit more efficient ... and now Zen 4 CPU have a lowered prices so ... what the interest to buy Zen 5 CPU now ?! Better to wait for futur gen with, maybe, a real generationnal gap.
