3nm and 4nm technology - we are at the limit now really - need to move onto new tech soon
@Diewux
@Diewux Ай бұрын
It's been a long time where nm does not reflect the actual transistor size. Instead, chip makers use various tricks and improvements over and over. This trend will keep going with small, step-by-step advancements. Some labs talk about completely new kinds of CPUs, like ones using light, but our current design is so well-developed that it's not going away anytime soon. Nanometer is just marketing term now, more indicative of the overall technological generation and improvements in performance, power efficiency, and density, rather than an exact physical measurement.
@flummi6966
@flummi6966 Ай бұрын
@@Diewux Siliconchips as we know it ,will not go away soon. But it gets really hard after 20-15 Atoms aka Angstöms. So we got some 4-5 years of shrinking and then optimizing the shit out of everything for a decade.

a 7950x locked at 5.1 ghz produce over 38k, 38450 to be precise in my case so comparing it to the results shown in the video, its a 13% performance increase wich reflects all various benchmarks leaks from showing from 12 to 15 %
@slanosta4538
@slanosta4538 Ай бұрын
yea, looks a little dissapointing to me, I can get my 40k points in cb23 froim my overclocked 7950x, the video from Gamers Nexus suggests 9950x on 870e board with PBO on and similar cooling that I have can get to 44k score, which seems like pretty small improvement to me, considering they are showing 17% in CB23 and the clock improvement is about 11%, yet the performance increase will be maybe 10-15% in my case, possibly not even that since I have 670e and 6000Mhz RAM, feels like its a little bit overclocked 7950x with some IPC increase, not as big improvement like zen 3 to zen 4.
@slanosta4538
@slanosta4538 Ай бұрын
To me it is not worth it to pay another 1500-2000$ for 10-15% improvement, seems stupid. Hopefully at least 9950x3D will have the same or better multicore performance while performing better at games
@Shahzad12357
@Shahzad12357 Ай бұрын
@@slanosta4538 wtf do you mean spend another 1500$ to 2000$ CPUs are not that expensive unless you start from scratch and all of ryzen 9000 series CPUs above 9700x perform better than any x3d CPUs of 7000series in gaming and also productivity
@slanosta4538
@slanosta4538 Ай бұрын
@@Shahzad12357 Do you think that on an old x670E board with 6000 Mhz RAM you will have same performance increase (7950x vs 9950) compared to a x870e motherbard and also new faster RAM? most likely going to be even smaller increase than what they are already showing
@slanosta4538
@slanosta4538 Ай бұрын
The 1500-2000$ is for new CPU, mobo and RAM, if you look at x470 vs x570 boards for example, the CPU with older boards and slower RAM dont perform as well as with all brand new, this 15-20% increase is tested on new boards with new RAM, so if you pop a 9950x to an older motherboard (x670e) its most likely not going to run as well as if you use an x870e one with better RAM

It's because amd wants to target zen3 owners who didn't upgrade to zen4 , so to highlight that how much zen5 is better than zen 3 , Im on zen3 and I didn't upgrade to zen4 , I didn't see that was necessary, but zen5 seems big enough performance jump , I will be buying zen5 . Most companies do this to bring back old customers to upgrade.

I've eyed out the Asus Proart X670E Creator mobo for it's unicorn specs of a 10 gig nic and 2.5gig nic and ECC support as despite their current reputation that combination is just oo well matching to ignore. I'm somewhat disappointed it's the end of July it seems but I guess I should have expected it since it seems anytime a company says something will release within a time period they mean the very end of said time period.
