Yeah. Itachi's debut was also the Akatsuki's debut, creating mystery and fear for what the rest of these guys can do. And then we see their leader, who essentially sits on a throne in (by Naruto's standards at the time) a mysteriosly cyberpunk village with entirely unexplainable eyes at the time, in an anime that maybe on a subconscious level tells us that one's eyes speak to their power, even if it isn't a dojutsu. Like Orochimaru

The hidden rain village is my most favorite places in anime! The concept of living in a village with the constant pressure, feeling, thought that a mortal God doesn't no exist and also does exist is watching everyone non-stop, including yourself is so good! He is the self-proclaimed leader who rules you in a way you don't notice. People fear him and worship him. Thank you for bringing this place to life!

This similiar with many religions, God's role as "Big Brother" over his subjects. Although unlike 1984 where Big Brother is just a human and you're also human that's mean things supposedly equal that's why people oppose totalitarianism while in religion, God is your creator and your very existance is the result of his wills and planning so for the faithful it's not that heavy feeling in heart to submit.

Naruto had some really interesting environments. I think they could have expanded on that a lot, like the local culture of the different cities and places, the people living there, etc. They visited a few places early in the story but abandoned that quickly.

The writer had planned a lot more world buiilding, but the reality of the Mangaka world was that he had to write something crazy every week to keep the rating high so he was forced to skip a lot of small missions he planned after the initial Zabuza arc and went straight into the Chunin exam for example and I'm sure there was more he wasn't able to include in the story because of similar reasons.

​@@jancarlosmanon4556 I'm guessing by "Sasuke Fest" you mean him getting the curse mark in the Chuunin exam and everything that happened in the show after that up to Sasuke leaving? Naruto and Sasuke are reincarnations of the Sage of Six paths sons. Sasuke is the reincarnation of the son that had a lot more darkness in him so it wouldn't have made sense for him to be a good boy and stay in Konoha. Sasuke leaving had to happen and it was an important arc.
