My husband is a 59 yo combat veteran with a TBI. He went on a retreat and tried psilocybin for the first time. We have nothing to loose. He’s been on big pharma drugs since 2012…they work ok till they don’t. I’m Hoping for this to help him.

Hey, I don’t know if he’s tried Accelerated Resolution Therapy, but it’s a new therapy that’s like EMDR on steroids, so multiple traumas can be treated at once. I’ve seen it help out a lot, especially when paired with Prolonged Exposure Therapy. I don’t know if he’s tried either of those things, but thought I’d share just in case! I know how it feels to want the relief from the pain of trauma, and I wish you all the best, and hope you can find relief for him soon!

Powerful. This really hit home for me. I was naughty at the age of 9, sneaking and stealing puffs off someone elses cigarette. I was an intermittent smoker for many years before being able to give up. Now, I'm forever watchful in trying to avoid passive smoking even when walking down the street. I can only apologise to my loved ones and those affected by my bad habits and addiction. Thank you both for sharing your personal journey and experiences with grief and loss. I'm so sorry for what you have had to go through. These podcasts are such an education. It's feels like learning without realising it. Thanks again. ❤

"Heroic Dose" was a term coined by Terrance McKenna in the 1970s. He defined it as 5 grams of dried mushrooms taken in a safe place in quiet and darkness, with a sitter or guide if needed. It's a lot, and not recommended for a person's introduction to a psychedelic experience. I would say not recommended for most people in general. While I am a big believer in the positive uses for psychedelic mushrooms, they shouldn't be treated casually, or purely for recreation. They are a serious and powerful medicine, and should be treated as such. Further study is essential, and administration should be supervised by professionals.

Appreciate the balanced anecdotal feedback on psilocybin. I think for resistant patients they should be allowed to try hallucinogens w informed consent under medical supervision. Irresponsible dosing should be a license forfeiture though. People can & have self deleted on hallucinogens.

Can confirm- psilocybin and ayahuasca had a very minimal effect on my healing journey.

I have tried psychedelics including mushrooms and LSD, this stuff may be enlightening or it might expand your consciousness, but it definitely will not improve your depression and it might make it worse, at least that is my own personal experience.

Dr.Gabor Mate talks about the evidence based healing that some psychedelics “can” have and that are potentially helpful for “some” who suffer from depression and or ptsd. He is very clear that it is NOT a cure all and in some cases should NOT be used for “some” people. It can be a game changer for some people and “potentially” harmful to others. The fear around psychedelics in the west because of either religious prejudice or medical closed mindedness should be abandoned in favor of real evidence based research and usage.
